TAKES NOTE of the proposal by the Republic of Ghana for the adoption of theEncyclopaedia Africana Project (EAP) by the African Union;2. COMMENDS the Republic of Ghana for its commitment towards the sustenanceof the Encyclopaedia Africana Project (EAP) in spite of the numerous challenges;3. REQUESTS the Republic of Ghana (Secretariat for the Encyclopaedia AfricanaProject) to avail itself to work with the African Union Commission and to facilitateconsultations with the aim of reviving awareness of all Member Statesconcerning the on-going Project;4. CALLS UPON the Commission in consultation with the secretariat of theEncyclopaedia Africana to submit at the next Summit proposals for sustainablefinancing of the project, including strategies for making it financially self-reliant;5. REQUESTS the Secretariat of the Encyclopaedia Africana Project to ensure thatits publications are made available in all AU working languages;6. FINALLY REQUESTS the African Union Commission to facilitate the formationof National Cooperating Committees in each Member State to be financed byeach Member State to enlist the assistance of scholars in various Universitiesand Research Centres to contribute to the Encyclopaedia.
Assembly/AU/Dec.501(XXII)Page 1DECISION ON THE REPORT OF THE PEACE AND SECURITY COUNCIL ON ITSACTIVITIES AND THE STATE OFPEACE AND SECURITY IN AFRICADoc. Assembly/AU/4(XXII)The Assembly,1. TAKES NOTE of the Report of the Peace and Security Council on its Activitiesand the State of Peace and Security in Africa;2. UNDERSCORES the need for renewed effort to tackle the challenges topeace and security that have continued to confront Africa. To this end, theAssembly RECALLS the crucial need for expeditious and comprehensiveoperationalization of all the components of the African Peace and SecurityArchitecture, as well as the need for more effective action, both operationaland structural, in the realm of conflict prevention;3. EXPRESSES SATISFACTION at the continued progress in the consolidationof peace and reconciliation in The Comoros, in Liberia and in Côte d’Ivoire;4. WELCOMES the conclusion of the process of transition and restoration ofconstitutional order in Madagascar sequel to the two rounds of presidentialelections conducted on 25 October and 20 December 2013, respectively, thelegislative elections coupled with the presidential election run-off andMadagascar’s resumption of participation in AU activities. The AssemblyCOMMENDS the Malagasy players for the results obtained and INVITES themto persevere in their effort at promoting reconciliation, and at deepeningdemocracy and socio-economic recovery. The Assembly COMMENDS theSouthern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union and theIndian Ocean Commission for their support to the crisis exit process;5. ALSO WELCOMES the conduct of legislative elections in Guinea on 26September 2013, thus marking the end of the electoral process initiated aspart of the country’s transition, and URGES all the concerned players to worktogether to consolidate the substantial gains so far achieved. The AssemblyFURTHER WELCOMES the positive developments in the situation in Tunisiaand the commitment of the various Tunisian stakeholders to foster consensusand dialogue with a view to bringing the on-going transition to a successfulconclusion. The Assembly URGES Guinea Bissau stakeholders to spare noeffort to abide by the calendar established for the conduct of elections inMarch 2014, which is expected to mark the restoration of constitutional orderin the country, REITERATES its support for the action taken by the EconomicCommunity of West African States (ECOWAS), COMMENDS the latter for theon-going process, and RENEWES its appeal to the United Nations, the AU,ECOWAS, the EU and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries(CPLP) to continue to coordinate their efforts to support the transition processin Guinea Bissau;6. TAKES NOTE of the effort exerted by the Libyan transition authorities toaddress the multi-faceted challenges facing their country, REAFFIRMS its
