Work Smarter, Not Harder


Think SMARTSPECIFIC– Think of the 5 Ws: Who, What, When, Where, WhyMEASURABLE– Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress.ACHIEVABLE– Identify goals and plan steps to make goals a reality.REALISTIC– You must be willing & able to work toward achieving goal.TIMELY– Goal should be grounded within a time frame.


Workshop Rules… Within your sections break up into groups of10 with the sorors seated around you Identify a group recorder & speaker Pay close attention to the slides we willreview in order to remain on task Record all your group ideas on paperbecause they will be collected at the end ofthis session


RecruitmentPURPOSE:Recruitment is the active process of reachingout to qualified women who could be futuremembers of the sorority.


Best Practice Suggestion<strong>Sigma</strong> TeaInvite prospective women several times a yearto a formal tea to introduce them to thesorority.

RetentionPURPOSE:The active process of keeping or holding onto members


Best Practice SuggestionIntergenerational Chapter Retreat:A chapter retreat for chapter members onlythat includes training on chapter policiesand procedures, but also includes funbonding activities.


Think SMARTSPECIFIC– How many sorors to retain? At what financial levels?MEASURABLE– When X number of sorors are financial by October 1 st .ACHIEVABLE– What resources do we need?REALISTIC– Are these goals important to the sorority’s mission?TIMELY– What is the timeframe to accomplish our goal?


ReactivationPURPOSE:To reactivate sorors who have beenunfinancial and inactive for one or moresorority year

Idea: Reactivation LetterDear Soror _______,Greetings from <strong>Sigma</strong>! Your sisters near and far have missed your presence and want to take this time to updateyou on the wonderful things that the sorority and <strong>Sigma</strong> <strong>Sigma</strong> Alumnae chapter have accomplished.<strong>Sigma</strong> <strong>Gamma</strong> <strong>Rho</strong> continues to make an impact on its local community and internationally. In recent years, thesorority has assisted citizens of Haiti through the donation of much needed supplies and aid. Domestically thesorority has joined the 50 Pound Challenge in support of our health awareness initiatives, donated doors tothe rebuilding efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims, and has applied to be a member of the United Nations.<strong>Sigma</strong> <strong>Sigma</strong> Chapter has also seen much progress over the years. We have collaborated with the Downtown’sWomen Center sponsoring a health awareness fair for homeless women, hosted the sorority’s national projectYouth Symposium in conjunction with our long standing Oratorical Contest, and are proud to be hosting the2010 Boule in Palm Desert. What an honor!We are hoping that you will strongly consider reactivating and taking part of the wonderful things the sorority isaccomplishing internationally, nationally, regionally and locally. There are different levels of commitmentavailable to all sorors.You are cordially invited to join us at our Round-up BBQ on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 2:00pm at 900 MaitlandAvenue; Inglewood 90303. This will be an opportunity to meet new sorors, reconnect with old sorors, andfellowship over good food and conversation.
