Terms & conditionsFeesI. All students are required to pay the full fee for the level/coursefor which they are enrolling, prior to the start of the course.II. Private tuition is offered for individuals and small groups of upto 8 students.III. A fee per person per hour is charged for students who attendcatch up lessons.IV. WLS reserves the right to withhold examination results andaccess to the campus until the outstanding accounts are settledin full.V. The student is solely responsible for his/her account.VI. The following methods of payment are accepted: credit/debitcard, bank cheque, direct deposits and electronic payments.VII. Should a direct deposit and/or electronic transfer be made,please provide proof of payment by quoting the following as areference: WLS reference number and the student name, forexample, 4452 Linda Khumalo.CancellationI. A student may not cancel his/her enrolment in a course and willnot be exonerated from liability for the course tuition fee andcourse material fee(s).II. No refunds are granted to students who fail to attend the coursefor which they have registered and paid.III. A student must complete the course for which he/she enrolledwithin one year of registration.IV. WLS reserves the right to postpone or cancel a course due tolack of demand. In the event of cancellation, as opposed topostponement, all fees paid will be refunded.Transfer from one course to anotherI. A student who wishes to transfer from one course to anothermust apply in writing for permission to do so from the WLSadministration staff.II. WLS administration staff reserve the right to approve/disapprovethe student’s application for the transfer of his/her registration toanother course.III. The transfer can only occur within one year of the registration,failing which the course fee is forfeited.IV. The student will be liable for additional payment for the coursematerial for the course to which he/she is transferring, whereapplicable.V. A student will be liable for the cost of the course material of theoriginal course/registration.Deferral of coursesI. A student who wishes to defer his/her enrolment to acommencement date later in the year must apply in writing forpermission to do so from the WLS administration staff.II. Such application has to be forwarded to the WLS administrationstaff within fourteen days of the commencement of the course.III. The deferral of a course must be done within a twelve (12)month period from the date of registration.IV. An additional charge may be levied for deferrals at the discretionof WLS.The following material must accompany this enrolmentI. A copy of the front page of student’s ID book (if SouthAfrican citizen), or the passport page with the photo andpersonal information (if non-South African).II. A copy of the front page of ID book of person(s) responsible forpayment of account, or the passport page with the photo andpersonal information (if non-South African).III. A copy of the student’s study permit and relevant page ofpassport (if non-South African).IV. Proof of payment with the correct reference number and studentname.This enrolment will only be considered once the registration form iscompleted, the correct documentation attached, and the requiredregistration or fee is furnished to WLS.Legal declaration of indemnity & undertakingI, the applicant, parent/guardian/next-of-kin/sponsor of theapplicant:I. Acknowledge that the University does not accept responsibilityfor damage or loss in respect of property of the applicant orin respect of property brought onto University premises bythe applicant.II. Do hereby indemnify the University in respect of any damagecaused by the applicant to University property or to the propertyof third parties, whether on or off the University premises,as a result of the applicant’s actions either whilst on theUniversity premises or whilst engaged in any activity related tothe University.III. Undertake, during the period for which I am a registeredstudent, to be bound by the rules and regulations of theUniversity, including the rules and regulations of any Universityresidence, club or society to which I may be admitted or becomea member, and by any requirements or conditions imposed bythe University on me as a prerequisite to my registration as astudent of the University in any faculty.IV. Certify that the information provided in this form and allsupporting documentation is accurate and acknowledge thatany false information may result in disciplinary proceedingsbeing taken against the applicant.V. Declare that I have furnished the University with all theinformation required to make an informed decision aboutmy admission.VI. Undertake to pay unconditionally all fees, charges andequipment surcharges payable to the University as they falldue for payment, for any period for which I am or may becomea registered student or the applicant is or may become aregistered student of the University.Terms of enrolmentI. The non-attendance of classes will not result in a reduction ofthe student fees, nor will it absolve the other to this registrationform from full liability for the payment of fees.II. The student cannot cancel this contract without written consentfrom the University.III. This registration or contract is not transferable to anotherperson.IV. The University reserves the right to change timetables, coursecommencement dates, postpone or cancel tuition in any courseinitially advertised and offered, on the basis of insufficientdemand or on any other reasonable ground.V. The student agrees to be bound by rules of due performance.The University reserves the right to exclude the student froman examination and to withhold a student’s examination resultsif his/her due performance requirements have not been met,without in any way detracting from the right of the University torecover fees payable.VI. Fees payable to WLS comprise tuition, registration and coursematerial fees. It is the student’s responsibility to cover the costof transport, specialized consumables used during the course,including but not restricted to specialised stationery, stock orany other materials.VII. Every student is subject to the rules, regulations, policies andprocedures of the University as amended from time to time.VIII. WLS chooses as its domicilium citandi et executandi (theresidential address) for all purposes arising here:Wits Language SchoolUniversity of the Witwatersrand, East CampusPDH, Gate 6, 92 Empire RoadBraamfontein, Johannesburg.IX. Certificates of attendance and certificates of competence areoffered by WLS. Please consult WLS for details per course.X. Cancellations and refundsI. No refunds are granted to students who fail to attend the course for which they have registered and paid.II. Refunds are generally excluded. However, granting of refunds may be considered under exceptionalcircumstances.III. Refunds will only be granted under the following conditions:a. If a student cancels thirty (30) days or more before the course starts, 90% of the course fee will berefundedb. If a student cancels within thirty (30) days before the course starts, 50% of the course fee will be refundedc.
