Frequent Flyer ExperiencesAirport Cluster SeminarVantaa, 12 April 2011Jyri Luomakoski, President & CEO, Uponor Corporation

What can a Frequent Flyer tell aboutairports?• Sample since 1 March until last Friday:― 34 flights― Approximately 4 days, 2 hours and 10 minutes in the air― In addition, spent about 57% of this time at 13 different airports, i.e.2 days, 7 hours and 55 minutes of which 25 hours in FRA during 24visitsBHXFRAHAMHELINNIVLLHRMADMLEMUCOPOORDVIE08 April 2011 ©Uponor 2

Suvarnabhumi International AirportBangkok, Thailand• Cool and dry air is led inat the floor level, and itgradually rises as itwarms up.• The result is a cool layerof air where the peopleare.• The Uponor floor coolingcovers an area of150,000 square metres08 April 2011 ©Uponor 4

Requirements from a frequent flyerperspective where “time is money”• Hotel and conferencing facilities “under the same roof” with theairport• Train connection for onward travel• Efficient drop-off of rental cars, availability of valet servicesalternatively• Acceptance of mobile check-in identification• Fast track security with sufficient capacity for premium classpassengers and status card holders• Central lounge location with sanitary facilities inside the lounge• Good indoor climate including indoor air quality to fight fatigue08 April 2011 ©Uponor 7

Some good & bad examples• MUC T2 is a swift transit airport due to the modern and efficientarchitecture facilitating quick transfer between Schengen andNon-Schengen flights― Own passport control station in the lounge― Good indoor air quality in the terminal• FRA LH-FCT is so far the best concept of an airport terminalwhere you can forget being at an airport• HEL terminal split a disaster― T1 not built for A320 and bigger planes, people flow gets jammedwhen such an aircraft docks in the “low teens” gates― Poor indoor air quality especially in T1― Split T1/T2 is just an entrance issue, gates seem to be selectedarbitrarily irrespective of the “terminal”08 April 2011 ©Uponor 8

Future requirement: SustainabilityWhat is your carbon footprint?• This question not only relevant for the flight part of air travel, butincreasingly to all activities sustainable companies procure, including― Rental cars― Hotels― Conference facilitiesso why not applicable to airports used by employees during theirbusiness travel?• Implications of stripping of services in the air as some can beproduced more sustainably on the ground?― Duty free on arrival― Storage of overcoats etc08 April 2011 ©Uponor 9
