DUE: Wednesday, April 16, 1997Chemistry 593Problem Set 9Winter 20061. A broken symmetry system exhibits long ranged static correlations. For example, in a ferromagnetbelow the Curie temperature< M k ⋅ M −k > R as k → 0,k2 where M k is the Fourier transform of the magnetization density and R is a constant. What doesthis imply for the real space decay of the magnetization-magnetization correlation function? Themagnetization is not conserved mechanically, nonetheless, magnetization fluctuations exhibitslow diffusive time dependence. Use linear response theory to derive the form of the averageequation of motion for the magnetization, and give a Green-Kubo form for the diffusion constant.2. In hydrodynamics (non-equilibrium thermodynamics), the time dependence of conservedquantities obey continuity equations. For example, the mass density, ρ(r, t) obeys a continuityequation,⎛ ∂ρ(r, t) ⎞=−∇⋅j(r, t),⎝ ∂t ⎠ rwhere j(r, t) isthe mass current. Alternately, wecan integrate the continuity equation over anarbitrary volume and use the divergence theorem to show that∂∂t V∫ dr ρ(r, t) =− ∫dA ˆn ⋅ j(r, t), (1)Awhere V is an arbitrary volume, A is it’s surface, and ˆn is an outward normal on A.Show that the classical Liouville equation for a system having N degrees of freedom canbe written in the form as a probability continuity equation on a 2N dimensional phase space. What is the probability current? Discuss the phase space analog of Eq. (1).3. Show that the classical Liouville operator,is Hermitian; i.e., show thatiL ≡Σ ∂Hi ∂p i∂∂q i− ∂H∂q i∂∂p i,∫ dX N A * (X N )LB(X N ) =∫ dX N [LA(X N )] * B(X N ),where * denotes complex conjugation, and where A and B are assumed to vanish whenever p i orq i →±∞.4. Show that equivalent results are obtained if one averages a mechanical at time t, A( X N (t)),under the initial non-equilibrium distribution function, f (X N , t = 0), or averages a mechanicalquantity at phase point X N under the distribution function at time t; i.e., show that∫ dX N f (X N , t = 0)A( X N (t)) =∫ dX N f (X N , t)A(X N ).Winter 2006

“Although Ihaven’t gota favouriteflavour, I tendto find thatI’m drawnto theRefreshaandPeppered Krillpop-ups,”There is also a Booster Cloud liquidwhich has to be seen to be believed, ithas a multitude of applications; you candip your hookbait in before casting foradded attraction and once in the waterthis will ooze off adding flavour, colourand highly soluble food ingredientsinto the water or you can glug yourhookbaits in the Booster Cloud, thisgives them chance to take on the extraflavour the longer you leave them.Booster Cloud is also PVA Friendlywhich means it can be added to bagand stick mixes or poured directly intoa bag, and once the bag dissolves youare left with a cloud of colour, tasteand smell around the hookbait. BoosterCloud can also be added to a spod mixfor spodding over Zigs, this creates acloud around the Zig which fish justhome in on.Recently, while targeting a heavilypressured day-ticket venue thatcontains lots of large carp, I realisedjust how effective these hookbaits are.At the start of my campaign, I quicklyrealised that all the anglers around mewere fishing over large beds of bait.Rather than spodding out loads of baitand spooking all the fish, I decidedto use single hi-viz hookbaits. For themajority of the campaign, I used theSonubaits dumbells because they wereslightly different from the normal roundboilies that everybody else was using.Because the hookbaits are so brightand full of flavour, it wasn’t essentialto introduce any freebies. I used towander around the lake, find wherethe fish were holding and flick singlehookbaits onto them. I tried the wholerange of hookbaits on the lake but itwas the Hot Chocolate that producedmost of the bites. During my time onthe lake, I managed to catch countlesscarp including loads of twenties and acouple of thirties. There isn’t a carp in the countrythat won’t go for these hookbaits,so whether you’re bag fishing, usingthem over particles or casting singlehookbaits onto showing fish, they’rebright enough and attractive enough towork in every scenario you can think of.6INGENIOUS, IRRESISTIBLE

“There isn’t a carpin the countrythat won’t go forthese hookbaits”I.RussellIan RussellAvid Carp Consultant

Sonubaits GalleryOver the last few years, Sonubaits consultant Neil Edge has caught his fairshare of large carp. As soon as we found out that he would be targetinga large southern pit that contained some truly enormous carp, we senthim a few tubs of the new Sonubaits hookbaits to try. Shortly after givingthe super-attractive pop-ups a go, Neil landed one of the lake’s largestresidents. Read on for the full story….Name: Neil EdgeFish weight: 51lb 4ozVenue: Southern syndicateBait: Sonubaits Refresha pop-upArriving at the 55-acre lake inHampshire at first light, Neil decidedto set up in a swim that had beenneglected by other anglers for a coupleof weeks. The swim allowed him to fishtowards a band of weed where the carphad been held up for most of the year.Neil positioned three rods tight to theweed bed at about 70 yards range. In abid to get the carp grubbing around inthe weed, he spodded out a mixture ofSonubaits Code Red prototype boilies,Hemp ‘N’ Corn and Tiger Fish pellets. Hethen flicked three Sonubaits Refreshapop-ups on short chod rigs over thetop of the mix. The fishing wasrelatively slow to begin with apartfrom the relentless bream and tenchthat couldn’t resist his bait. Withthe weather set to improve, and thenuisance fish still feasting on his spodmix, Neil decided to introduce threemore kilos of spod mix. This certainlydid the trick because at 5am thefollowing morning his alarm burst intolife and the battle commenced.Everything went solid so Neil appliedsteady pressure and pumped the fishand weed back towards the bank andthe waiting net. After 10 minutes thefish was near the bank and the net wasslid under, after separating the weedit revealed a big dark mirror which hasonly been caught five times in the last12 years. The scales went round to51lbs 4oz. What a result.Neil EdgeBig Carp Specialist8

BAIT GUIDE 2012The hemp in Sonubaits’ particle tins is a highquality, large grain with a supreme splittingrate. Because the hemp and hookbaits arecooked together in the tin, all of the juicesare kept with the bait which optimises thelevel of attraction to all species of fish. Unlikewhen mixing particles separately, the flavourof the hemp is infused into the hookbaitsmeaning they’re even more irresistible. In these handy, ready-to-use tins you getthe perfect amount of hookbaits and freeofferings. All of the particles are prepared tothe highest standards, so not only do fishfind them incredibly tasty, they’re also totallysafe to use.Henp ‘N’ TigersHemp and tigers is the perfect combination when big carpare the target. Tiger nuts are rich in natural proteins, oilsand sugars which carp find irresistible and combined withSonubaits hemp are the perfect match to help you catchyour biggest ever specimen.Hemp ‘N’ Black TigersBlack tiger nuts are a different variation to standard paletigers, where the skin naturally turns black. They are afantastic alternative to a standard tiger nut bait, as theyhave the same nutritional properties and natural attractionbut offer all this in a colour most carp won’t have seenbefore. They’re a real edge!Hemp ‘N’ Mini TigersMini tiger nuts are smaller versions of a standard tiger, however they are harvested earlier making them sweeter intaste. The combination of Hemp ‘N’ Mini Tigers is perfectfor margin fishing, and also ideal for mixing in with spodmixes. Their unusual shape makes sure carp never growtired of picking them up.Hemp ‘N’ MaizeHemp ‘N’ Maize is an all time classic combination, responsible for the capture of many big carp. Because themaize has been cooked for the optimum time, the sugarswhich come out during this process are infused into thehemp seed, giving a new and unique natural flavourto the hemp.Hemp ‘N’ Giant MaizeGiant maize really has to be seen to be believed. Thesevery large grains of maize are perfect for larger carp, andmany anglers use it’s size and pulling power for overseastrips and on venues where nuisance species are prevalent.Hemp ‘N’ Crushed TigersThis combination is perfect when using tiger nuts as ahookbait. Because the nuts have been crushed, it allowstheir natural sugars and attractants to leak out into thewater at a faster rate, creating the perfect feeding area.Hemp ‘N’ Maple PeasMaple peas are a truly classic bait which have fooled a hugeamount of carp, tench and bream over many decades. Theinfusion of the hemp flavour through the maple peas in thecooking process enhances the flavour of what is anunder-rated, yet very effective particle bait.Hemp ‘N’ CornThe hemp and corn combination is ideal for all species offish. The corn in the tins is a specially selected variety withplump, succulent grains which can be hair riggedor hooked. This provides a totally versatile can of bait, ideal for feeding in the margins or using at rangethrough a spod.Hemp ‘N’ PeanutsHemp ‘N’ Peanuts is the perfect way to fish with safelypreparedpeanuts. This is a devastating combination thatmaximises the full attraction of the not-so-humble peanut. On waters where nut fishing is allowed, this is a combinationthat will give you the edge over other anglers.visit sonubaits.com today11

BAIT GUIDE 2012The Fin onS-PelletsS-Pellets are my first choice hookbait when fishing the feeder. I find thatthey are the ideal texture for using on a Method feeder or Banjo feeder asthey are perfect for using with a Quickstop and won’t come off on impactwith the water. Because they are so easy to use it doesn’t take any time tore-bait and therefore I maximise my fishing time. With the levels of oil and fishattractors that are in S-Pellets feedingfish actually seek them out whichresults in quicker bites. Because oftheir fairly firm texture I also know thatnuisance fish cannot pull them off thehair so even if bites are hard to comeby I know that when fish are in thearea the hookbait will still be exactlyhow I want it.I take about 10 out of the bag andhave them on my side tray and thenreseal the bag keeping the rest fresh. And because of their potency I knowthat they will catch different species,Carp, Bream, F1’s, Barbel and Tench allfind them irresistible. The original S-Pellets are myfavourite when using fishmealgroundbaits or Fin Perfect Pellets butwhen I am using Tiger Fish, F1 or Krill Iwill match the flavour of the S-Pellet tothe groundbait or feed that I am using.Fin1 Tie a hair to suit the size of the2 Mount the Quickstop on theS-Pellet being used so that it just Quickstop needletouches the bend of the hookAndy FindlayCommercial Ace3 Gently push the Quickstop through 4 Remove the needle and rotate thethe S-Pellet taking care not toQuickstop to hold the S-Pellet onsplit itthe hairFin’s Top 8 Reasonsto get on the S-Pellet1. Licence to...The England Feeder Team captain is one of the most experienced anglersout there and he has been working closely with the team at Sonubaitsdeveloping a Krill based attractant destined to form one of the most popularranges in 2012.Krill is a small shrimp like animalwhich is present in all oceans. It isthe main food source for many fish, including some species of Whales. It’scaught and dried in the Antarctic Oceanto make Krill meal and then used in theaquaculture industry for feeding to fishon fish farms and in aquariums. It hasexcellent nutritional properties and istherefore highly attractive to fish.I went to Sonubaits to see if theycould create a bait range incorporatingthe qualities of Krill with their expertiseand knowledge from the aquacultureindustry. They were then able to sourcean extremely high grade of Krill mealusually sold as a dietary supplementfor humans. We discussed the inclusion of Krillmeal in a groundbait and experimentedwith some different mixes to see howit performed. I wanted somethingwhich was very versatile so it could beused on the Method and also balledin on the pole line. Using Sonubaits’experience and knowledge of howdifferent ingredients perform we wereable to create a number of differentmixes which I took out and tested.I look for two things with any bait –first and foremost it has to consistentlycatch winning weights of fish and I canassure you that it does; it also has tobe easy to use as I often need to justmix a groundbait when I get to mypeg and it has to be ready when the‘all in’ sounds. After a number of trials and slighttweaks we came up with SupercrushKrill, which performs exactly how Iwanted it to; ideal for Method feedersand when pole fishing, it has a verydistinctive pungent aroma which all fishseem to associate with food. When we had finished thedevelopment of Supercrush Krill wedecided to look at creating baits whichwould accompany the groundbait such“it has toconsistentlycatchwinningweights offish and Ican assureyou that itdoes”as Soft Hooker Pellets, Feed Pellets,Pastes, and a Liquid. This was quiteeasy as we already have some of thebest products available it was just acase of simply including Krill meal inthe baits to enhance them and thenchecking to make sure they performedas well as expected.Krill meal is such a superb attractantthat I wanted to be able to use it byitself for dusting maggots, meat, cornetc so it is available in a shaker stylepot in the Flavour Shaker range, which Iknow will get me plenty of extra brownenvelopes throughout the year.TommyTommy PickeringFormer World Champion22INGENIOUS, IRRESISTIBLE

50 : 50Method & PasteDes Shipp is one of the country’s best match anglers; being a currentmember of Team England fishing in the World Championships and alsobeing the current Parkdean Master, his experiences in Match Fishing meanthere is no better person to develop bait for the modern angler.Method feeder fishing is changing. It’s something I’ve noticed a lot recentlyand I believe this is because carphave become more aggressive in theirfeeding behaviour. How many timeshave you cast a Method feeder andstraight away you get a couple ofsmall knocks which doesn’t turn intoa proper bite? This happens because the carp willhear the splash of the Method feederand they associate that with food,in knocking the Method feeder theywill dislodge the groundbait thereforeleaving no attraction apart from thehookbait, this means you have to waitmuch longer for a bite.“50:50 worksperfectlyand itcompresseson aMethodfeedereasily”It also happens when you are fishingtight to an island – you will get a fewknocks and the feeder will slide downthe slope and again you will have noattraction around the hookbait. If you’re fishing in deep water youneed to know that the groundbaitaround the Method is still there whenit hits the bottom otherwise you areagain left with just a hookbait and theattraction is through the water columnactually taking fish away from whereyou want them to be; around yourhook bait.I started working with the Sonubaitsteam early in 2011 to develop agroundbait that would stop theseproblems. It needed to be really stickyand hard so it could be compactedonto a Method feeder with 100 percentconfidence that it wouldn’t come offon the cast, impact with the water orwhen it was knocked by the initialinterest from a carp. This is whenSonubaits 50:50 Method and Pastewas developed. Because it’s sticky andbinds well it can also be mixed with alittle more water to create a paste, idealfor fishing on the pole. The Sonubaits knowledge of howdifferent ingredients perform whenmixed is invaluable when it comes todeveloping baits – it didn’t take longafter the initial concept for the baitto be ready for me to trial. It worksperfectly and compresses on a Methodfeeder easily, and after a few smallchanges to the ingredients to get therequired colour it became the firstgroundbait I would consider whenfishing the Method or paste on watersup and down the country.Have a think about how many timesyou have had a couple of knocks whichhave not turned into a bite. Sonubaits50:50 Method and Paste is the solution.Des ShippDes ShippEngland International26INGENIOUS, IRRESISTIBLE

It forms a base to manygroundbaits as it is light and fluffy butcan be mixed to be relatively inert, so ithas a multitude of uses.It is important to get the best outof all Match fishing groundbaits andthey need to be riddled after theyhave absorbed the water, this way itbreaks up any lumps and makes surethe water is distributed evenly so youcan be sure that it will all perform thesame, riddling also adds air to a mixwhich helps it to break up in the water.Once it is riddled it is then easy to seeif more water is needed to get it toperform how you want.Because of its inertness it willstay where it is cast or potted in, butbecause of its light, fluffy nature whenit is in the water Supercrush Expanderwill cloud up easily when it is disturbedby feeding fish which creates a feedingarea that other fish home in on, andbecause of its lightness it doesn’t fillthe fish up as quickly so keeps them inthe swim for longer, this also makes it agood groundbait over winter when youneed to keep the feed content low.Supercrush Expander makes anexcellent groundbait straight from thebag for using on a Method feeder inshallow water or on the pole; it canalso be over wetted and made into slopand then shipped out in a pole cup andpoured in to create a cloud. It is also an excellent base to mixwith other ingredients to make a totallynew groundbait. It is easy to mix inother ingredients such as any of ourFlavour Shakers to enhance or changethe flavour, or by adding Stiki Pelletit will make the groundbait stickierand bind better to a method feeder. You could bulk it out with breadcrumbor mix it with molehill soil to make itdarker and heavier, you can sieve it tocreate a finer mix or add other coarseparticles or pellets to make a coarsermix. It can also be added to heavygroundbaits to make them lighter andhelp them break up; the choice reallyis endless.AccessoriesLuncheon Meat Cutter• For perfectly cubed luncheon meat thereis nothing better than the SonubaitsMeat Cutters.• They cut the luncheon meat to the sameuniform sized cubes making them perfectfeeding and hooking.• Available in 6mm, 8mm and 10mm.(Supplied with spare wires.)T-SHIRTS• Be a Sonubaits angler with a 100% cottonPolo Shirt with and embroidered logo on thefront and back.• Available in M, L, XL, XXL,XXLCAPS• One size fits all32INGENIOUS, IRRESISTIBLE

BAIT GUIDE 2012ASituation!Andy Findlay is one of England’s finest commercial anglers and also one ofthe most forward thinking match anglers around. In fact, it’s ‘The Fin’ who’sthe brains behind products like Flatbed Method Feeders, Fishing the Coneand most recently the Banjo Feeder, so when he comes to us with a newconcept for bait – we listen.A common problem I’ve had whenfishing the Method is that I cannot be100 percent certain that the pelletsstay on the Method feeder through thecast, impact with the water and thedrop through the water. If they’re notstill on the Method when the feederhits the bottom, bites will be a lot moredifficult to come by. This is increasinglyimportant when using the Banjo feederor the Cone. I have played around withsugar, flour, and Horlicks to try and getthe right consistency, however it wasa complicated process and I was neverhappy with the outcome.possible. Between us, and with a fewfinal tweaks from executive chef andmatch angler Ed Warren, we came upwith the perfect product. It was justthe job as it was easy to prepare andworked perfectly, the more you addedthe stickier it became.“I wantedsomethingthat wouldincrease mycatch rate, which wasas easy toprepare aspossible.”it can be added to groundbaits to makethem bind better, it can be used withmaggots to make them stick togetherand I have also been using it to makesure when I feed 2mm Pellets out of aCAD pot they get through the smallerfish in the mid layers to the bottom. It is now what I consider to bean essential product for fishing theMethod, Banjo or Cone and always hasa place in my bait bag.FinAndy FindlayCommercial AceI contacted Sonubaits and explainedthe problem to see if they could help. When I was next at the Sonubaitsoffice they had an array of liquidsand powders which they said wouldbe an answer to my problem andso the experimenting started. I tookaway about 20 products which allworked to some extent in the respectthat they made pellets stickier. I thenexperimented using the products whenfishing – I wanted something thatincreased my catch rate which was aseasy to prepare as possible.Eventually I narrowed it down to acouple of products which I would behappy to use as they worked perfectly, and went back to the Sonubaitsoffices. They had got a selection ofmeasuring spoons as they wantedto make the preparation as easy asTo use Stiki Pellet simply empty abag of Fin Perfect 2mm Feed Pelletsinto a bowl and using the spoonprovided add 10 spoonfuls of waterto the pellets, stir them round to givethem an even coating and then add onespoonful of Stiki Pellet to the pelletsand mix thoroughly to give them all andeven coating and let them absorbthe powder and water. Pumped ExpanderPellet PerfectionLee Edwards is well known for his commercial fishing and an importantfactor involved in this is his preparation of his favouriteFin Perfect Expander Pellets.Everyone prepares differently, butthis is how I do it. I see so manyanglers who simply take expanderpellets from a bag and pump themwith no preparation, then they seem tospend the whole match shipping in andout to re-bait after their pellet has comeoff on a lift and drop or striking at afish. This takes up valuable timein a match.Understanding the structure of apellet is the most important thing. FinPerfect Expanders have a honeycombstructure and the pockets of air withinthe pellet must have water in them, notair, for the pellet to sink. Pellet Pumpsare designed to suck the air out ofthe honeycomb structure and fill theair pockets with water. If you do thiswith a pellet straight from the bag itcan cause the structure of the pellet todevelop a fracture and therefore youget pellets which split when you aretrying to hook them or fall off the hookbecause the honeycomb structure hasbeen damaged. To get around this, I soften mypellets the night before a match. Todo this I take the required amount Ineed and dunk them under water forfive seconds. This gives them an evencoating of water, but not too much, otherwise they will go soggy. Removethem from the water and place in apolythene bag, seal the bag and put itin the fridge. Leaving them overnightallows them to absorb the smallamount of water which has coated themand they will soften slightly.“Fin PerfectExpandershave ahoneycombstructureand thepockets ofair within thepellet musthave waterin them, notair, for thepellet to sink.”I don’t touch them again until Iarrive at my peg. Then I will pump themand leave them for five minutes, releasethe valve and they should all sink. What has happened is that overnightthe moisture has soaked into the centreof the pellets, so when you pick oneup before pumping they have moreof a spongy consistency – this meansthat they won’t fracture when the air isremoved and replaced by water.Once they’re prepared I keep themon my side tray in a tub with a smallamount of water – just enough to keepthe bait moist. And that’s it. That’s theway that I prepare them! They stayfirmer and behave as you want them to,which means more time fishing and lesstime re-baiting.L.EdwardsLee EdwardsWelsh International36INGENIOUS, IRRESISTIBLE

BAIT GUIDE 2012toPASTEONE to ONEMixing traditional paste has never been easy, but ONE to ONE solves this problem, providingyou with the perfect paste every single time.• Add one cup of powder to amixing tub• Add one cup of water to thepaste powder• Mix thoroughly and leavefor 30 minutes• Free inside every bag is aPreston InnovationsPaste Pot• Place pellets in the PastePot first to help feedyour swimPaste fishing often seems to selectbigger fish and therefore you need tohave balanced tackle.Use size 12 PR36 hooks tied to 0.17Reflo Power and PB Paste Floats. Thefloat choice is important as they are aself cocking float with the eye at theend of the big buoyant bristle. Thisis so when your paste does come offyou will see as your float will lift, it isimportant to fish dead depth and keepthe line short between the pole andthe float so there is never any line dragpulling the float and hook from thepaste. When tying on the hook leave atag of nylon which will offer somethingelse for the paste to cling to.It is also important to plumb thedepth a couple of times through thematch, especially on waters with softbeds, this is because quite often fishwill feed so hard searching for thepaste they will create a depressionwhere you are fishing, this will alter thedepth of the water which if you do notrespond the paste will be fished off thebottom and therefore come off moreeasily reducing your fishing time.Mixing ONE to ONETo mix ONE to ONE paste simply add the same volume of water and paste to a bowl and mix. Leave for 30 minutes to letthe paste absorb the water, then it can be made into a ball and is ready to be hooked.visit sonubaits.com today39

■ ■Fibre Paste is the first paste of its kind that can bedirectly hooked and still be cast long distances.Fibre PasteA revolution in paste fishing for the modern angler.• Totally unique, stringy consistency• Will easily cast over60 yards• Easier to use thanstandard pastes• Stays on in water muchlonger than standard paste• Rugged texture meansincreased attraction• This paste has a unique texture with asoft consistency which means that it canbe fished with confidence on a pole, waggler or feeder. The bait is still reallysoft and fluffy and easily presented atdistances of over 60 yards.• Normally if paste is fished on a rod ithas to be made so stiff so that it willstay on for the force of the cast, thisthen means that the hook will not pullthrough therefore making hooking thefish more difficult.• Once you have mixed the paste makeit into a ball and just tear a pinchoff and simply hook it on, it doesnot need to be moulded, this way itleaves a rough edged paste unlike anyother. Once it is in the water smallparticles of the paste begin to fallaway enticing fish to feed, this alsofeeds the swim.• Use larger hooks and heavier line withFibre Paste as it catches larger thanaverage fish and the larger hook willalso help to keep the paste on.• Fibre Paste sinks slowly which meansit can be cast on a waggler rod atcruising fish and it will fall slowlygiving more time in the feeding zone.• It is a presentation which fish won’thave seen before and therefore willnot be able to resist.1 2 3 41. Create your own baits withFlavour Shaker! At Sonubaits we are always looking for new ingredients which will improvebaits, with this in mind we source what we believe will be fish catchingingredients from all over the world.A lot of ingredients which getdelivered we dismiss straight awayas they are not suitable, but there aresome which we instantly know willgood for fishing. We can then startexperimenting with them in baits indifferent inclusion levels and seeinghow it affects the feeding reactionof fish. This involves sending some of thenew ingredient to our anglers for themto include in their already successfulbait. Then after a few weeks using thenew ingredient the anglers will ringSonubaits to discuss the merits of thenew ingredient and if the ingredientsprove that fish will actively seek themout to eat them more so than the baitwithout the new ingredient then we canthen start using that ingredient withina range, possibly even developing awhole range around the ingredient.“FlavourShakersare someof the bestingredientswe havecome acrossin the lastfew years”Flavour Shakers are some of the bestingredients we have come across in thelast few years which are now availableas a raw ingredient. This means thatyou can enhance your own groundbaitor add flavour to ones which youalready use. There are various different ways ofusing Flavour Shakers. A common andeasy way is simply to add some of theFlavour Shaker to a groundbait beforemixing it, that way it will make itmore potent.Flavour Shakers can also be usedto add more flavour to feed pellets, this is especially important when on afishery where everyone uses the samepellets, by adding some of the FlavourShaker to the water before you add itto the pellets will make your pelletsmore potent than other anglers pellets,by doing it this way it will allow theflavour to penetrate the pellets, thiscan also be done by adding the drypowder to the dry pellets beforeadding the water, or you could use theFlavour Shaker as a dusting for theoutside of the pellets once you haveadded the water.Flavour Shakers can also be used toenhance expander pellets. Simply addsome Flavour Shaker to the water youare going to pump your pellets in whichflavours the water and then pump yourpellets as normal. They can also be used to flavourthings like corn or meat, simply drainthe corn or cube the meat, put it ina plastic bag and add some FlavourShaker and leave it to absorb intothe baits.Flavour Shakers are also ideal forspecimen fishing. They can be usedas key ingredients in bag mixes. Tomake a very potent bag mix use SuperSeaweed as the base ingredient, withall the natural salts and flavour it isirresistible to carp, add to this somecrumbled Currami bottom baits, SuperOctopus, a little Spicy Sausage andsome Currami Booster Cloud and usea Currami hookbait. If you want to usethe Peppered Krill as a hookbait simplyreplace the Spicy Sausage FlavourShaker with Krill.Flavour shakers are also very usefulin a good spod mix, they can be addedat any proportions which suit yourbait and provide an excellent cloud offlavour if used as a sloppy spod mix.You can very quickly and easilycreate an entire range of baitwhich is totally unique to you, keep experimenting till you find acombination which suits your style offishing and the venues you fish andyou will be enjoying great success inno time.TommyTommy PickeringFormer World Champion42INGENIOUS, IRRESISTIBLE

BAIT GUIDE 2012Liquid FlavoursLiquid flavours form an important part of amodern match anglers tactics. This extensiverange allows you to add extra flavour togroundbaits, pellets, maggots, meat and corn. The flavours can be used when preparing baitat home, or on the bank to give your bait anadded advantage. These Liquid Flavours are particularly effectiveon heavily fished match venues as they willenhance the bait with a flavour which is highlysoluble in water this disperses from the baitand brings fish to your peg.Paste Pellets• There are six flavours available in the range, Bacon Grill, Halibut,Fishmeal, Catmeat, White Fish and Supercrush Green with addedBetaine. Band’umWhen fishing commercials it is important to keep changing your hookbaituntil you work out what the fish want on that particular day, this can alsochange during the course of a match, so changing hookbaits should costyou as little time as possible. The Band’um range is perfect forusing with a bait band as the durableconsistency, dumbbell shape andslightly bulbous end means that oncethe bait band is on they will not slipoff therefore you can catch a numberof fish on the same bait, saving yourebaiting time. There are a number of differentcolours and flavours in the range whichmeans you can keep experimentinguntil you find the right colour for theday and situation. When fishing the method I willgenerally start off with something brightlike the Pineapple or White Chocolateas this visual attraction gives the fishsomething to home in on, but if theydo not want bright baits I will quicklychange to a Tigerfish or F1 Band’umwhich are more of a pellet colour. When pole fishing on the bottomI will again start with a bright colourwhich stands out against the bottombut if I start fishing shallow I willchange to a darker one such asSupercrush Green as it will standout better in mid water if it is clear, however if the water is cloudy I will gowith something like the bright pink Krillwhich can be seen much more easily bythe fish.My rig for fishing with the Band’umrange is really simple and somethingyou can look to put together easily.I use a Preston Innovations’ PR36 ina size 18 or a PR38 in a 16 for snagfishing, tied to Reflo Power hooklinkmaterial, in anything from 0.15 diameterto 0.21 for proper big ‘uns! A bait bandtied to the end of the hair enablesrapid bait changes, and a simple loopattachment at the other end enables meto use it in conjunction with a KorumQuick Change Bead on the Method or aPreston Innovations Dacron Connectoron pole rigs, or a simple loop to loopwhen waggler fishing. So get on the Band’ums bandwagon!
