The class will take the MetroLight rail to downtown <strong>Houston</strong> to visit a courtroom.This class meets Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Attendance on all fivedays is required to earn the badges.Dress is Class B uniform in the <strong>Museum</strong> and Class A on field trip days.We will follow the BSA requirements for the Crime Prevention, Law, and FingerprintingMerit Badges, and all necessary requirements will be completed within the class with nooutside work.There is one field trip planned for this class. Please read and sign the permission slipnear the end <strong>of</strong> this document. Bring the top <strong>of</strong> the page to class.<strong>Scouts</strong> will ride the Metro Light Rail to downtown <strong>Houston</strong>. It is a two block walk to thetrain station then a few blocks downtown to get to the courthouse. <strong>Scouts</strong> will sit in oncourtroom proceedings and meet with the judge.


PROCESS FOR ONLINE REGISTRATIONIn order to register for a scout class, you will need to have an HMNS User Account.You do not need to be a member in order to set up an account, but you will need toestablish an account before you can make purchases from the website. You must havea valid email account in order to receive your password to log into the system.Before you start, make sure you have your HMNS Membership number (if applicable)and a valid credit card.1. Sign In or Create a New Account• Go to www.hmns.org.• Click on TICKETS.• In order to complete your purchase you will need to SIGN IN. Click on theSIGN IN link in the tog right hand corner <strong>of</strong> the page.• Returning customers, enter your User Name and Password.• If you don’t have an account with us and are not a HMNS member, please clickon REGISTER AS A NEW USER under the NEW CUSTOMERS heading.• If you don’t have an account with us and are a HMNS member, please click onREGISTER HERE AS A NEW USER under the NEW CUSTOMERS-MEMBERS heading.• Click on SAVE and CONTINUE to submit your information to be logged into theHMNS eBoxOffice.2. Make your Class Selections• Select “Summer Scouting at HMNS” from the list on the left.• Select the desired class by title to see a description <strong>of</strong> the class <strong>of</strong>fering andavailable dates.• Select the desired class date from the dates listed. (Note: the dates listed areMondays, but each class runs for the whole week.)• Select the quantity you would like to purchase and click CONTINUE. (If memberprices are not listed, you are not logged in with your member number.)• Click CONTINUE ORDERING until all desired classes have been selected,otherwise click FINISH ORDER to proceed to checkout.3. Payment and Confirmation• Review your order and click CONTINUE to purchase the classes.• Enter your child’s name and click CONTINUE.• Enter your credit card information and click CONTINUE.• Review your order. You must agree to the Terms <strong>of</strong> Service by checking the IAGREE box to complete the transaction, and then click on PROCEED WITHYOUR ORDER.• When your purchase is complete, you will receive a Transaction ConfirmationNumber for your order.• Please print out this confirmation page for your records.• You will receive an email confirmation <strong>of</strong> your purchase.


FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSRegistrationCan I register over the phone?To register for scout classes over the phone, call 713-639-4680.How can I be sure to get the classes I want?The best way is to be a member and register on-line during priority registration.How can I find out which classes are filled?Check class availability on the HMNS website. Once a day before 9:00 a.m., the <strong>Museum</strong>computer system updates the availability <strong>of</strong> all classes. If a class sells out during the day, youwill not be able to purchase it, even though the computer may indicate that spots are available.We do not <strong>of</strong>fer a waiting list.What is the best way to register a carpool so that all children have classes on the sameweek?Register online the same day in the early morning. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that allchildren will get the classes they want.Do scouts need permission to earn Merit Badges?Each Troop is different. Many require that scouts get permission from the Troop before startinga badge, especially for Eagle required badges. Please inform your troop before registering thatyour son will be working on badges at HMNS to ensure that he will be given credit for his work.Can you accommodate my child with special needs?We are happy to accommodate children with special needs but we ask that you notify the ScoutProgram Manager <strong>of</strong> your child’s needs prior to your child’s first day <strong>of</strong> class. Please emailscouts@hmns.org or call 713-639-4631 to speak with the Program Manager. The HMNS ScoutProgram has an open door policy. Parents are welcome to attend the class to assist a child ifneeded. As BSA counselors, our job is to help your child successfully complete therequirements to earn the badges.In the case <strong>of</strong> severe food allergies, it is not possible for us to monitor what other children bringinto class.The <strong>Museum</strong> is NOT responsible for administering medication to children.Getting to ClassHow do I get to the <strong>Museum</strong>?You can find directions on our website www.hmns.org (click “Visit”) or call 713.639.4601.What about parking?During summer, the museum garage <strong>of</strong>ten fills to capacity. We advise that you carpool or arriveearly if you plan to use the garage. Passes will be given so that you can park in the garage fordrop-<strong>of</strong>f and pick-up at no charge. Consult www.hmns.org for street closures and other parkingoptions.


Can I drop <strong>of</strong>f early or pick up late?Classrooms will be open at 9:00 am before class, and stay open until 4:00 after class. You canavoid the rush by coming early and picking up late. <strong>Scouts</strong> will be supervised, but should bringsomething to entertain himself.Camp DayWho can I contact during the day if I need to leave an emergency message concerningmy child?Please call HMNS <strong>Museum</strong> Services at 713-639-4601 and a staff member will deliver yourmessage to the appropriate person.How should my child dress for class?Wear Class B uniform. If the class leaves the museum on a field trip, all scouts will be asked todress in Class A uniform.What are the qualifications <strong>of</strong> your teachers and assistants?All Merit Badge Counselors are register with Boy <strong>Scouts</strong> <strong>of</strong> America. They have a high level <strong>of</strong>knowledge in the topic and are educated or <strong>of</strong>ten have a career in the field. Webelos and Cubsinstructors are school teachers. They all have experience working with kids and enjoy hands-oninteractive activities. All teachers have gone through the BSA Youth Protection Training.How are scouts supervised?Parents or guardians are required to physically sign campers in and out <strong>of</strong> camp and to provideemergency contact information every day. <strong>Scouts</strong> are supervised at all times and are notallowed to leave the classroom area, even during lunch. All HMNS employees involved in theScout Program will strictly follow the BSA Youth Protection Policies.May parents or leaders stay in the classroom?The Scout Program has an open door policy. Parents who want to assist their sons or scoutleaders who want to observe the class are always welcome.What are the behavior expectations for scouts?<strong>Scouts</strong> are expected to maintain the highest levels <strong>of</strong> behavior, courtesy, and work ethic as ifthey are always in uniform. The class fee admits the scout into the class; the badges must beearned by participating and completing the work outlined by the badge requirements. In case <strong>of</strong>a severe behavior problem, we will call you and ask you to pick up your child. At our discretion,your child may be allowed to return to class the following day, however, missed requirementswill not be completed.Do I need to bring Blue Cards? How do I get the badges my scout earns?Blue Cards will be completed for all Merit Badges. If you do not bring a blue card, we willprovide one. For Webelos, certificates will be given for each badge earned that can be turned into your troop or pack. The museum will not provide the actual badges.LunchDoes my child need to bring a lunch?<strong>Scouts</strong> are supervised in their room while they eat lunch. <strong>Scouts</strong> should bring a lunch or preordera meal on Monday morning to be delivered by McDonalds.


How do I order a lunch for my child from McDonalds at the <strong>Museum</strong>?<strong>Scouts</strong> are not permitted to leave the room to purchase a meal during supervised lunchtime.McDonald’s orders for the whole week must be placed in person at McDonalds in the <strong>Museum</strong>on Mondays before 10:15 a.m. The meals will be delivered to the proper room at lunch time.McDonald’s will not deliver their regular meal combinations because <strong>of</strong> the number <strong>of</strong> lunchesthey are preparing. All lunches will have chips instead <strong>of</strong> fries, and a 12 oz. canned drink.Please see the McDonald’s order form on the last page <strong>of</strong> this document.


A completed Camper Health Record Form must be on file with the HMNSScout Program. Bring this form to class Monday morning. If a child isregistered for more than one class, this form only needs to be completedfor the first class.

McDonald’s Order FormWhat’s for Lunch?McDonald’s lunches can be ordered on Monday morning to bedelivered any day during the week at lunch time.No <strong>Scouts</strong> will be allowed to leave the classroom to go to McDonald’s!In order to deliver fresh food to each class, McDonald’s can only deliver a limitedselection from the menu. French fries and refillable drink cups cannot be delivered.Instead, delivered lunch packages include a bag <strong>of</strong> Doritos and a 12 oz. canned s<strong>of</strong>tdrink, juice or milk.Complete the order form below and bring it to the McDonald’s within the <strong>Museum</strong> lobbybefore your class starts on Monday.Scout’s NameRoom Number or Class NameMeals include sandwich or salad, canned s<strong>of</strong>t drink, juice or milk, bag <strong>of</strong> Doritos, andcookie pack.(Prices do not include tax)1.
