How to Find a<strong>Provider</strong>The <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Cross</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Blue</strong> <strong>Shield</strong> <strong>of</strong> Montana <strong>Managed</strong> <strong>Care</strong> <strong>Provider</strong> <strong>Directory</strong>,published monthly, is organized so that you can quickly find a provider by specialtywithin a certain city.<strong>Provider</strong>s are grouped by type (Personal <strong>Care</strong> Physicians, Pr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Provider</strong>s,<strong>and</strong> Specialty <strong>Care</strong> <strong>Provider</strong>s), <strong>and</strong> they are then listed alphabetically by city, then byspecialty, <strong>and</strong> then by last name.When we are aware that a provider has restrictions on accepting new patients, thatinformation is noted in the provider's listing.Definition <strong>of</strong><strong>Provider</strong>CategoriesThe Personal <strong>Care</strong> Physician (PCP), in partnership with the patient, coordinates <strong>and</strong>monitors the health care services the patient receives. In this role, the PCP ensuresthe patient receives appropriate <strong>and</strong> necessary services.Coordination <strong>of</strong> services by the PCP gives you greater assurance <strong>of</strong> continuity as wellas quality <strong>of</strong> care. This approach also ensures a greater opportunity to manage yourhealth care costs.PCPs include the following physician specialties:· Family Medicine· General Practice· Internal Medicine· Obstetrics <strong>and</strong> Gynecology· PediatricsPr<strong>of</strong>essional <strong>Provider</strong>s (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, <strong>and</strong> Certified NurseMidwife)Pr<strong>of</strong>essional providers are considered to be "on-call" for the PCP <strong>and</strong> can act as anyother on-call provider.If you have been seeing a nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or a nurse mid-wifepracticing within a PCP <strong>of</strong>fice, you may continue to see that provider as long as yourPCP is the physician for which they work.Members may not choose a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or a NurseMid-wife as a PCP.Specialty <strong>Care</strong> <strong>Provider</strong>Specialty <strong>Care</strong> <strong>Provider</strong> (SCP) services are necessary when knowledge or skillsbeyond the PCP's scope <strong>of</strong> practice are required. SCPs provide the required services<strong>and</strong> consult with the PCP regarding any questions or concerns related to themember's care.
