Warm, friendlyand popularThe classic light bulb.Light is produced in a light bulb whenelectrical current passes through a finewire, causing it to glow. Around five percentof the electrical energy consumed isconverted into light. The rest is releasedto the surroundings as heat.Constantly developed and improved.The first carbon filament lamps achieveda luminous efficacy of only 1.7 lumen perwatt. Today, the figure for our standardincandescent lamps in the CLASSIC seriesis up to eight times as high. Thanks to aspecial krypton filling in the SUPERLUX ®KRYPTON lamp, the luminous efficacyhere is even higher. A high-quality coatinggives the lamp an elegant look without anyglare.Light and service life.As far as the physics of the light bulb isconcerned, there is a direct relationshipbetween the light they give out and howlong they last. If more power is “pumped”into the filament it will emit more light.However, this will considerably reducethe life of the lamp because the filamentmaterial will vaporise faster at this highertemperature, causing the filament to burnthrough sooner. Conversely, reducingthe load on the filament in an ordinarylight bulb will increase its service life.1.02

The filament consists ofthe finest tungsten wireand is precision wound ina series of sophisticatedprocesses to produce acoiled-coil filament.OSRAM general lighting service (GLS)lamps are designed to achieve an “averagelife” of 1000 hours (as per standard).From the statistical point of view, thismeans that after 1000 hours of operation50 percent of the lamps are still working.This applies of course only if they areoperated at rated voltage (e.g. 230 V).If the voltage is higher or lower than itsrated value the life of the lamp will beshorter or longer accordingly.Versatile: special designs.In addition to the standard OSRAM incandescentlamps manufactured in their millionsday after day throughout the world,there is a wide range of lamps in a varietyof shapes and sizes for special lightingapplications and special requirements.Such as BELLALUX SOFT ® for warmglare-free light in a variety of shades.Or SUPERLUX ® KRYPTON which offerincreased luminous efficacy.Daylight simulation for betterquality of lifeOur researchers and developers worktirelessly to create better light for a betterquality of living.Light has an effect on our bodies and onour biorhythm. Bright sunlight makes usactive and cheerful, whereas the warmcolours of the setting sun help us relax.Artificial light can achieve similar effects.Our new pair of incandescent lamps,ACTIVE and RELAX, shows that even100 years after the invention of the incandescentlamp we are still coming up withinnovative products in this field. TheACTIVE lamp offers natural white lightsimilar to daylight. It is ideal for roomswhere people are engaged in activities orhave to concentrate. The RELAX lamp onthe other hand creates a warm cosy light,just right for unwinding at the end of theday.Lamps that needn't hide their light.Bulbs can be designed so that they lookas good as any attractive luminaire.
