We offeran ice diving experiencefor all levels, in <strong>the</strong>adventure capital of <strong>the</strong> world. For all those keenadventurous divers who want a fresh water challenge!Sunday - Bridge Dives:Lake Dunstan, Cromwell.Dive <strong>the</strong> historic twinbridges of Cromwell, <strong>the</strong>Lowburn and Old Cromwellbridges.They were submerged in 1992 following <strong>the</strong> flooding of<strong>the</strong> area during <strong>the</strong> construction of <strong>the</strong> Clutha Dam.Page 1 of 4


Ice Dive Lake AltaSaturday 1st September2012Meeting Place: At <strong>the</strong> base of <strong>the</strong> ‘Magic carpet’ lift(learners slope) Remarkables Ski Field.8:20 am sharp (The Groomers will not wait!)Groomer and lift rides to <strong>the</strong> top of <strong>the</strong> ski field, <strong>the</strong>n groomer ride up to Lake Alta.Ice can be up to 600 mm thick, with up to 100 m visibility! A changing tent will bebeside <strong>the</strong> ice entrance hole. Toilet facilities will be very basic. Tea, coffee, soup andlollies will be provided on site.For 2012 <strong>Scuba</strong> <strong>Steve</strong> offers three options to divers:Option 1: Ice Dive Introduction - $160/personThis is an introduction to Ice Diving and is <strong>the</strong> package <strong>the</strong> Cromwell UnderwaterClub has been providing for nearly a quarter of a century. Divers are grouped inbuddy pairs and need only be Open Water certified. Buddy teams are te<strong>the</strong>red to <strong>the</strong>surface and stay close to <strong>the</strong> exit at all times.Option 2: Guided Ice Dive - $180/personFor this option a qualified PADI Instructor and experienced ice diver will divealongside you and your buddy and guide you on <strong>the</strong> dive. The guide will carryemergency spare air (pony bottle), lights and lifeline to allow <strong>the</strong> team to venturefur<strong>the</strong>r from <strong>the</strong> exit. Professional photographs of your underwater experience willalso be available.Options 1 & 2 bring your own : Wet / dry suit, mask, gloves, weight belt,fins, plus good boots for standing in <strong>the</strong> snow and adequate clo<strong>the</strong>s e.g. skitrousers, jackets hats gloves etc.We will provide you with a BCD, special regulators and tank whichare shared amongst divers to reduce <strong>the</strong> amount we haul up <strong>the</strong> hill.Option 3: Overhead Environment/Tec Diver Certified - $195/personFor <strong>the</strong> experienced & certified wreck, cave or ice divers we offer <strong>the</strong> opportunity toconduct <strong>the</strong> dive within more relaxed supervision using standard technical divingpractices. Using equipment for <strong>the</strong>ir own private use, teams can reel off from aweighted line secured to <strong>the</strong> exit/entrance and are able to do much longer bottomtimes than options 1 and 2. We recommend a single cylinder back gas with a ponyor stage set as an independent contingency.Page 2 of 4


Don’t forget to organise your exposure protection or you could end up like<strong>the</strong>se two.That kind of shrinkage you may never recover from!<strong>Scuba</strong> <strong>Steve</strong> can provide all equipment necessary including mixed gases, regulators,dry suits, lights, reels etc. via prior arrangement, additional charges apply.The diving at Lake Alta is free! This is a non-profit event held by <strong>the</strong> CromwellUnderwater Dive Club.Fees cover:AdvertisingBooking expenses (credit card/bank fees)Lift ridesGroomer useRental dive equipment provided for useSnacks on <strong>the</strong> iceBBQ afterwardsIt’s a cold place even on a good day.A BBQ will be held after <strong>the</strong> dive when everyone is off <strong>the</strong> hill at <strong>the</strong> GroomerMaintenance Workshop below <strong>the</strong> ski buildings.Page 3 of 4
