Studentshad to use a number of skills to complete the tasks set tothem from mathematical to designing artwork to promotetheir cafes. Well done to all those who took part.Friday, 26th October 2012ANTI-BULLYING WEEKNational Anti-Bullying week takes place in mid-Novemberand staff and students have been looking at anti-bullyingstrategies at EBC. All students and staff have been askedto fill in an anti-bullying questionnaire. There is still time totake part by logging into Fronter. The survey can be foundin any active room on the left hand side of the screen andonly takes a few minutes to complete. Students have alsobeen asked to design an anti-bullying poster that will beused for displays around the college. Prizes will be awardedafter half term for the best entries, so submit them now!MUSIC UPDATEFourteen musicians have returned from a residential trip toLittlehampton where they spent the week on intense musicpractice. Everyone enjoyed themselves, got lots of sea air,plenty of practice and the group managed to extend theirrepertoire and add some new players.Mr Chivers and Ms Sheikh presented music certificatesfrom the summer examinations to a number of the college’smusicians at a special reception for the boys and theirparents held this term.We look forward to enjoying the latest work of the variousmusical groups at the Winter Concert on 13th December.SPONSORED BIKE RIDEWell done to Reece Davies 10DD for taking part in theLondon to Brighton Cycle Ride at the end of September. Hecompleted the 54 miles in about 5 hours and raised £500for Adoption UK. “It was quite tiring going up the hills but itwas good fun,” said Reece.DROP INHEALTH ADVICEThe School Nurse from St Ge<strong>org</strong>e’s Healthcare NHS Trustruns weekly Drop In Sessions for the students on Wednesdaylunch times. The Drop In Session is a Confidential Serviceto give health advice and support to the young people atthe college. The sessions take place in the college medicalroom in the Sports Centre on Wednesdays from 12:45 to1:45.


OLYMPIC LEGACYWe all enjoyed the London 2012 Olympic and ParalympicGames and were pleased to see <strong>Ernest</strong> <strong>Bevin</strong> <strong>College</strong>represented at a number of different events. These includedWinston Gordon, our very own judo coach, competingfor Team GB, Ms Munday who was a games maker, SixthFormers past and present who took part in the torch relay,Opening Ceremony and worked at the Olympic Park, our 14Olympic Ball boys who worked at the tennis tournament atWimbledon and the many students who were able to watchevents at both the Olympics and Paralympic Games.TOOTING & MITCHAMFOOTBALL TRIALSTrials for places at the Tooting and Mitcham United FCfootball academy run in conjunction with <strong>Ernest</strong> <strong>Bevin</strong>Sixth Form Centre starting in September 2013 are takingplace this half term. Trials will take place on Tuesday 30thOctober for boys currently in Years 11 &12 from 12noon atTMU FC, Imperial Fields. Formore information see<strong>www</strong>.<strong>ernestbevin</strong>.<strong>org</strong>.<strong>uk</strong>/community/sports-holiday-campsSTATIONARY ENTREPRENUERSOLYMPIC PARK VISITOn the 6th September I went to see the Paralympics.On the way to the Olympic Park I was told we could onlyhave 100ml of fluid – so I had to drink two 500ml bottlesquickly. Despite this minor hiccup, the whole day was justgetting better and better. Walking into the stadium wasvery exciting, especially seeing the Olympic flame andhearing the crowd participation. The day got even betterwhen I heard my national anthem, when a Polish athletewas presented with a Gold medal: I was extremely happyand proud. I was really lucky to have my country’s flag withme which I wore with pride as I sang along. This was anawesome day that I will never f<strong>org</strong>et.PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCYFilip Chrzanowski 9 PABA vacancy has arisen for a parent governor at the college.Parent governors play an important role in the life of thecollege and we would encourage anyone interested tocome forward and ask for an information pack from theschool office.If you wish to stand for election as a Parent Governor ornominate another parent you will need to fill in a nominationform. Your nomination needs to be supported by anotherparent and if you are putting someone else forward, youwill need to include confirmation that they are willing tostand. If more than two nominations are received a ballotwill be held.
