ACADEMIC FOCUSThe relevance of Geography in today’sglobal communityIn the digital world of today, with instant communication andan increasingly globalized society, there is a greater need forunderstanding between, and acceptance of, all people across theglobal village, regardless of their homeland, culture or gender. This sentiment was echoed recently by Jacques Rogge in hisopening speech at the London Olympic Games when he said,“For the first time in Olympic history all the participating teamswill have female athletes. This is a major boost for genderequality.”The importance of geography was also recognizedby Barak Obama, President of the United States, at the 2012US National Geographic Bee, when he said, “The study ofgeography is about more than just memorizing places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciatingthe diversity of cultures that exists across continents. And in theend, it’s about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides andbring people together.”These quotes encapsulate the essence of our aims in teachingGeography at Trinity Grammar School, where we examine currentglobal issues and encourage our students to be well-roundedand responsible young men with a broad understanding of, andoutlook on, life. Our success in achieving these aims is evident inour results in the recent national Geography competition.Earlier this year, Geography students in Years 8, 9 and 10demonstrated key geographical skills and knowledge in the 2012National Geographic Channel Australian Geography Competition, which is a joint initiative of the Australian Geography Teachers’Association and the Royal Geographical Society of Queensland, sponsored by National Geographic Channel. The Competitionattracts students from all over Australia – around 80,000 of themeach year – so it’s a real indicator of how well our students aredoing in this important subject. This year’s Competition tested the students’ understandingof topics such as natural disasters, sustainable energy, andcountries in our region, and also skills such as interpretinginformation in statistics, maps and satellite images.Once again our students’ results and the School’s overallperformance were very encouraging. A number of studentGeographers performed to a very high level in the Competitionthis year, with 32 gaining High Distinctions, 23 Distinctions and22 Credits.Alex Connolly (9Ar), Dillon Giacoppo (9 He), Evan Caddy(10Hi), Adrian Cheng (10Fo), Jack Collins (10 Ho), LeoJiang (10Mu), Andrew Serb (10Ar), Rohan Simpson (10WH),Raymond Song (10La) and Daniel Weissberger (10Fo)received High Distinctions for a second consecutive year.Evan Caddy (10Hi) was placedequal first in the State with threeother students. His score was39/40. As a result of a tough tiebreakerseries of questions, hisfinal place was equal third in thestate which was a very creditableresult. This is the second consecutiveyear in which one of our studentshas tied for equal first in the state, prior to the tie-breaker questions.Leo Jiang (10Mu) tied equal firstin the state in 2011, when he wasin Year 9.These results are positive indications for the future of Geographyat Trinity Grammar School.Kim Kerr | Head of GeographyEvan Caddy (10Hi)The Duke of Edinburgh Programme> > Want to join the Award?> > Want to know more about the Award?> > Want to join a September Holidays Expedition? If the answer is yes to any of the above questions and you areat least 14 years of age or about to turn 14 then you will needto attend an information session this coming Wednesday, 15thAugust at 6:00pm in the Terrace Room.We will:> > Discuss the Award and all its changes and expectations.> > Provide you with an opportunity to join the first of two yearlyintakes to the Award programme.> > Provide you with information about a potential SeptemberHolidays expedition for new participants.> > Provide you with advice on purchasing key wilderness hikingequipment, from outdoor equipment specialists SouthernCross Equipment. This meeting is a compulsory step in being eligible to participatein the Award and this proposed September Holidays expedition. We look forward to seeing you there on the night.Brad Bulger | MIC DEASwww.trinity.nsw.edu.au Head Master’s Bulletin | 10 August 2012 < 3

TRACK AND FIELDCAS TRACK AND FIELDNext week will see the commencement of the 2012 CAS Track and Field season. For those who are a part of the Track and Field community, I hope the anticipation ofbeing part of a team of dedicated athletes at the biggest sporting event in the Schoolcalendar stirs the butterflies in your stomach. At our season launch on Wednesday, all athletes were issued with individual training cards for the season, as well as aTrack and Field handbook which contains a range of information including competitiondates, programmes, training schedules, bus information, coaching staff, uniformrequirements, parent support group, major awards, study hall details, arrangementsfor the final week, reminders for CAS day, CAS lane draw, performance standards,CAS rules and records, RSVP card for the end of season function, as well as detailsrelating to the upcoming All Schools competitions. Boys who would still like to join thesquad should see me in the Sport Directors’ Office, behind Student Services.Unfortunately, this year’s season is a week shorter than usual (only 4 weeks and 4days long!). We are therefore unable to hold our traditional training camp and SchoolChampionships at Narrabeen. We have instead organised the School Championshipsto be held on Wednesday 15th August starting at 2.30pm and concluding with a BBQ at6.30pm to be held at the Ridge Athletics Centre, New Illawarra Road, Illawong. Friendsof Track and Field are kindly organising a BBQ at the completion of the Championshipsfor all athletes and parents to enjoy.A summary of the key dates for the season appears below:Monday 13 AugustWednesday 15 AugustSaturday 18 AugustTuesday 21 AugustSaturday 25 AugustSaturday 1 SeptemberSaturday 8 SeptemberMonday 10 SeptemberTuesday 11 SeptemberThursday 13 SeptemberSeason officially beginsSchool Championships (the Ridge, Illawong)Trinity and Cranbrook Meet (SOPAC)Compulsory training and study hall (3.40pm to 8.00pm)Barker Meet (SOPAC)Knox Meet (Blacktown)Waverley Meet (E.S. I also realise the Track and Field seasonfalls within a very busy period of the School calendar. It is vitally important that allathletes incorporate a healthy balance between work, rest and training in their weeklyschedules. Athletes should not hesitate in seeing me if they are having any difficultieswith their training programme or competition schedule. The Track and Field Parent Support Group (Friends of Track and Field) provideswonderful assistance throughout the season. Most importantly, the group providesgreat encouragement each Saturday. This helps to generate a special culture withinthe Track and Field community. I hope parents will again this year be able to offer theirsupport. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude for the commitment athletes have shownto this year’s Track and Field season and I hope that they are able to challenge thelimits of their athletic potential. Last year’s record breaking feat of three-in-a-rowChampionships had never been achieved in the history of the School. Hopefully wecan take this one step further with four-in-a-row in 2012. Most importantly, we mustcontinue to be the best team we can be!“Dream it, believe it, set your goals and you can achieve it!”Andrew Murphy | Director of Athletic Development, MIC of Track and Field4 > Head Master’s Bulletin | 10 August 2012 www.trinity.nsw.edu.au

RUGBYFROM THE Master in ChargeIt was another very good weekend’s rugby last weekend, notwithstanding that we struggled against a very strong BarkerCollege in most games. In the Opens, the 5th XV were well beaten by a very large andphysical Barker 5ths, and undermanned 4th XV had their firstloss of the season, the 2nd and 3rd XV were well beaten, whilethe 1st XV put in a very whole-hearted effort, only to be grounddown by the power game of the Plume Shield winners for 2012.Congratulations to Barker College on their Premiership, butcongratulations also to our boys who never gave up.The Under 16s were well beaten in all three grades, although the16Cs deserve special mention for playing in the second highestscoring game of the season. They lost 20-46 in a freewheelinggame where attack was the winner over defence. For the boysin the 16As and Bs, I think a long hard off season in the gym willdo wonders. The Under 15As enjoyed another win and seem to have founda little form, albeit very late in the season. The 15Bs and Cswere well beaten, although the Cs get the award for the highestscoring game of the season in losing 40-77, and extraordinary117 points in 50 minutes. It must have been a great game towatch and I dare say the referee got a very aerobic workout. The Under 14As continued their rumble towards the premiershipwith an emphatic win that sets them up for what is effectivelya grand final with Waverley College this weekend. The 14Bscontinue to give a good account of themselves and once againplayed well, while the 14Cs were beaten but can still hold theirheads up.I was delighted that the 13As were able to turn around theirRound 1 loss to Barker with a very good win. Coaches Wilkinsand Cook can be justifiably pleased with the way their playershave developed over the course of the season. The 13Bs turnedaround a Round 1 flogging to only just lose, while the 13Cs andespecially the Ds gave a good account of themselves.I almost can’t believe it but this weekend is the last game ofRugby for 2012. Best wishes to all players and coaches for anenjoyable and successful weekend’s games.FROM The Director of RugbyThe Under 15s played a positive style of rugby in the Bs and Csagainst Barker which set a wonderful platform for the As. Aftera strong start, William Davies (10Ho) scored adjacent to theupright. A determined defensive effort lead by Anthony Nguyen(9Hi), Prakatheesh Sothilingham (10WH), Dustin Pham(9Ar) and Dominic Pham (9Ar) couldn’t prevent a Barker tryjust before the break. With renewed focus in the 2nd half someattacking runs from Tom Dickinson (9La) and David Barbati(9Mu) resulted in Trinity regaining the lead. Despite the relentlesspressure from the Barker pack, the 15As stayed composed anddetermined in defence and were deserving winners 12-10.The 14As had a convincing win up at Barker winning 61-0. Theforwards played a strong direct game with James Wayland(8He), Jared Phillis (8Mu) and Alex Connolly (9Ar) leadingthe way. These forwards created space out wide which wascapitalised upon by James Abraham (8Ho), Jordan Morris(8St) and Ryan Longville (8Mu), who scored and amazing 36points for the weekend! An outstanding performance of four triesand eight conversions. Well done, Ryan!A fantastic win for the 13A team on Saturday after a narrow lossagainst Barker in round 1. Michael Park (8Du) was in devastatingform in both attack and defence. Other notable performances inthe forwards were seen from Jonathan Wang (8WJ) and JamesMarkarkis (8Ke), with Monty Hannaford (7Du) scoring 2 finetries from Fullback.Well done to all the 13Ds who had their best game of the season, greatly influenced by the efforts of Darcy Brockel (7Du), LucasMundy (7Ke), and Franco Brogna (7Ho) returning from illness/injury. After a good week of preparation on pick and drive, tackling, and ball retention the team felt well prepared for the game. Itis obvious the team reaped the rewards with strong runs fromJoseph Chamoun (8Sc), Gregory Chen (8Sc), ChristopherTarlamis (7Ta) and Tim Mcmanus (7Fo) setting up tries madeby Christofer Palmer (7Mu) and William Giezekamp (7Ke).Lachlan White | Director of RugbyBradley Barr | Master in ChargeTrinity vs Barker1stXV L32-52ndXV L0-563rdXV L0-554thXV L7-195thXV L12-5216A L0-5016B L5-4116C L20-4615A W12-1015B L27-5415C L40-7714A W61-014B L21-3714C L7-2713A W22-1413B L15-1913C L5-2713D L10-27TRINITY GRAMMAR SCHOOLFather & SonGetawayTrinity Grammar School Year 8 and 9Father/Son Getaway weekend.Date: 8th & 9th of September, 2012.Venue: Youthworks(Telford & Skinners Homestead)The Royal National ParkPrice:$150 per person which includesaccommodation for Saturdaynight, all meals and activities.More Click information here more to follow informationthecoming weeks6 > Head Master’s Bulletin | 10 August 2012 www.trinity.nsw.edu.au

TRINITY FOOTBALL/FOOTBALLRound 9 vs Barker CollegeThe home fixture against Barker College is always a competitiveround and last weekend was no different. Our Footballers hadthe upper hand, in the end however, it was a very close thing.Barker challenged all the way til the end of the day – so closethat it was down to the School achieving 11 wins, 9 losses and 6losses. A great effort again! It was very pleasing to witness that all of the Open teams intheir final home game for season 2012, played on TGS 2. Someof them as you will read below played well, others had theirchallenges. On a more important note to all Year 12 footballers, thank you foryour commitment and support of Football at the School over themany years you have been involved and on behalf of the staffand coaches I wish you all the best of luck for the life ahead. In closing, a special mention must go to Luca Kmet (7Ke) whoin the last week has been chosen in a State Under 13 squad.Congratulations Luca, a truly wonderful achievement!1st XIThe 1st XI played out a 1-1 draw with Barker. In the first half, abreakdown in communication and passing between the Trinitydefenders created the chance for Barker to shoot and score. Inthe second half, Trinity scored from a James Combes volley totake the shoreline to 1-1. Trinity raided the Barker defence inpursuit of victory but were unable to break the deadlock. Trinityplay Waverley tomorrow at Queens Park.Opens Reports2nd XIThe squad was depleted after injuries to key players andtwo suspensions. This was the game we had to win and theboys played well for the whole game but Barker were able tocapitalise on a defensive mistake and although Trinity had manyopportunities to score, goals evaded us. The defence of NathanHojel (12We) was solid. In a new role as midfielder Will Brown(12Ho) never stopped running. Jed Maher (11Yo), TiernanKulkarni (12St) and Kierrin Barkley-Brown (12WJ) workedhard up front to break the stubborn Barker defence. Specialthanks to Zac Harrisson (12Ar), Peter and Stephen Stamateris(11Yo) and Jason Fong (11Sc) who stepped up to fill the gaps. They all played with great enthusiasm.3rd XIThe 3rd XI played a game very keenly competed by both sidesand characterised by high quality and exciting football. The matchcould have gone in either direction, but fortunately for Trinity,it went 2-1 their way. In fact the score could have very easilyhave been 3-1 when early in the game Dean Esposito (12WH)broke away and fired a powerful shot straight at the goalkeeper.Dean again featured when he set up Patrick Semrani (11Du)who finished beautifully. The second goal came when ThomasHeaton (12Ar) raised a ball over the Barker defence and Patrickagain showed his finishing skills. During the last ten minutes,Barker fought back strongly and only a great save from NickSmerdeley (12La) kept the score from being a draw.4th XIGoing down 4 – 0 to Barker it was a difficult game for the 4ths toaccept. Every shot was going just wide including the ball beingcleared off the line twice and hitting the post. All credit to Barkeras they made their opportunities count and defended brilliantly.Despite this the 4ths as they have done all season tried theirhardest all the way to the end with special mention going toJoshua Liew (12Yo) for a great effort at centre back.5th XIThe Gentlemen’s XI played with great passion and convictionslast Saturday going down to Barker by 1 goal to nil. It was a direand at times a physical game in which our men showed bothcontrolled aggression and good ball movement to rattle BarkerCollege. Our goalkeeper Sean Ye (12Sc) was again outstanding, savinga second penalty in two weeks. Well done the Gentlemen’s XIwho showed that they are gentlemen of the field and played thegame with great determination and skill.6th XIAfter going down to Barker in round one (3-4) at Barker, CaptainJoel Ritchie (12La) and the 6ths were keen to make up for thedefeat. In what was the best game of the season the teamsfought out a 2 all draw, the 6ths’ only draw of the season. Centremid Matthew Preswick (12He) was outstanding and the playerof the game. Patrick Downey (12WH) and Alex Ivanovski(12He) scored our two goals. Goalie Chris Zagame (12Ke)saved a penalty late in the second half. One interesting point tocome out of the game was that Barker did not score until OliverCoble (11Ho) our sweeper, left the field injured. Oliver missedthe previous Barker game due to injury. Sean Maloney (12WH),Lachlan Fahy (11Ho), Anthony Cass (11Du), Mitchell Royle(12Mu), Leo Tsitovitch (12Sc), Robert Di Carlo (12Ke), JakeThomas (12Mu) and Peter Targett (12Mu) all played out of theirskins. Great game, bring on Waverley.7th XILast Saturday we were fortunate for the second time this seasonto play on TGS 2. We had a particularly difficult match completelyoutplayed by Barker in all aspects of the game and congratulationsto them. Our team could not match the brilliance displayed byBarker on the day. We needed more team composure on the daybut we were let down by several key players being unavailable toplay. At training we continually practice maintaining possessionof the ball and setting up opportunities for our strikers Brandon2012 FootballDinner DanceThe Football Supporters would like to extend a warminvitation to all Parents and Friends from all Campusesto attend the Football Supporters’ Dinner Dance. The next part of the half saw the boyscreate chances with us hitting the post and missing a few easychances, all in all a solid result up at Normanhurst Oval.Richard Bishop | Master in Charge of FootballTENNISRound 9 vs Barker CollegeThe honours were shared with Barker with ten wins each, makinga winning rate of 50%. The 9A and 9D team are undefeated afternine rounds and if all goes to plan with Waverley on Saturday;all team members will be eligible for trophies as undefeatedthroughout the season. Wins were recorded by the 3rd IV, 10B,10C, 10D, all Year 9 teams, 7B and 7D teams. The 1st IV bounced back from a loss of 8-0 in the away fixtureto finish level at four sets each but going down on games 30-36. Captain of Tennis, Angus Coble (12Ho) returned from injuryto lead the team to a near major upset. Strong winning gamesin the singles to Benard Nkomba (7Fo) and Arnanth Srikanth(11He) lifted the spirits but in the end the winning margin fromthe Barker CAS representatives in the other two singles was abridge to wide to close. Vice-captain, Brian Ye (11Ho), althoughlosing his singles managed to take both doubles sets on offer. The other highlight in the Opens was the 6-0 win to the 3rd IV.The 10A team had an enthralling match, sharing the sets at 3-3but losing on a count-back of games 28-31. Adrian Cheng (10Fo)and Sam Millington (10He) playing at A1 and A2 respectivelyhad great singles wins. In the 10Bs, the winning margin wasfour sets to two and the Coach, Mr Ashley Lucas, commentedthat David Ibrahim (10La) and Nicholas Buxton (10La) wereirresistible in both singles and doubles to secure the win.All year 9 teams were on fire and stand-in coach for all Year9 teams for the weekend, Dr Bill Kneprath, was pleased withthe comfortable margin on the day. Dr Kneprath’s own team, the7Ds also had a win and his winning percentage on the day wasnoteworthy.Round 10 has been designated as “rivalry round” in the CAS andthis will be the case with the 1st IV playing Waverley College atKingsford and keen to reverse the score from Round 1 and if thisis the case and all other teams do the same as the earlier round,we will record a perfect score-line!Guy Dennis | MIC TennisCAS Tennis Winter4 August 2012 | Round 9 | Home fixtureTeam Opposition Result Sets Games1st IV Barker Lost 4-4 30-362nd IV Barker Lost 2-6 36-443rd IV Barker Won 6-0 36-134th IV Barker Lost 2-4 26-2910A Barker Lost 3-3 28-3110B Barker Won 4-2 27-2210C Barker Won 5-1 33-2610D Barker Won 3-3 29-249A Barker Won 4-2 31-249B Barker Won 6-0 36-69C Barker Won 5-1 36-239D Barker Won 6-0 37-188A Barker Lost 0-6 12-368B Barker Lost 2.5-3.5 28-318C Barker Lost 0-6 19-378D Barker Lost 1-5 13-317A Barker Lost 3-3 25-297B Barker Won 5-1 35-187C Barker Lost 1-5 31-357D Barker Won 5-1 33-13Overall winning rate 10 wins | 50%8 > Head Master’s Bulletin | 10 August 2012 www.trinity.nsw.edu.au

VOLLEYBALLTrinity Defeated Barker3-0 (25-15, 35-33, 25-18)Coming into the match against Barker, Trinity sought tocontinue their unbeaten run in this winter season. Thefirst set was much anticipated and both teams cameout firing, going point for point. The Trinity team startedstrong, claiming the first six points of the match. Thiswas due to some unbelievable backcourt play fromMichael Diamantis (11Sc) and impressive servingfrom Liam Obeid (11Hi) giving Trinity the first fewpoints of the set. The second set was unlike the firstwith both teams going point for point throughout theset. Great contributions off the bench from MatthewSkelly (11St) and Callum Fogarty (11Ke) allowedTrinity to take a handy lead, however, Barker foughttheir way back into the set. Both teams once againgoing point for point with great all round plays from allplayers allowing the set to continue past the 25 pointmark with each team attempting to win by two points.Great dedication from the Trinity team and excellenthitting from both Nicholas Kukic (11Ar) and EvanBao (12He) allowed Trinity to take out the set 35-33in a thrilling finish. The third set started much like thefirst with both teams going point for point. However, great hitting from Jeremy Qiao (12Yo) and greatencouragement and advice from the injured MylesKatay (12WJ) allowed the Trinity team to take thelead and eventually take the set. The boys should beincredibly proud of their efforts. I hope they are readyto finish off the season on a high against Waverley nextSaturday.SNOW SPORTSIn the Last week of the holidays we had a small team of 17 studentscompete in the Sydney Championships at Perisher. This year the teamconsisted of Junior, Middle and Senior School students who competedin a range of skiing events comprising of Skier X, Alpine and Moguls.Unfortunately we had no one to fill our Snowboarding quota this year sothe skiers had to step up and hold their own, which they did particularlywell posting fast times and great team standings. The individual and teamcontributions saw Trinity placed well in many events which generated afew invites to the State Championships. Invites went out to teams thatplaced in the top five teams or top ten individual placing. Our Division 1team comprising of William Brown (12Ho), Sam McCarthy (12Ar), ZacHarrisson (12Ar) and Joel Kelly (12HE) placed 5th in Alpine; Division 2team comprising of Matthew Bull (9Yo), Matthew Price (9Yo) and MarcoLee Solano (10Sc) placed 5th in moguls and Thomas Buvac (3Sc) 8thin Alpine.Overall the great team and individual results saw the Trinity Snow Sportsteam take out the Catergory 2 - Champion School, which is a greatresult especially as it consisted of such a small team. All boys must becongratulated as they all contributed to gaining the shield for the schooland there also has to be a big thank you to all the parents who got the boysdown the snow and supported them in all conditions. The Snow Sports team who were invited to the State Championships willbe competing from the 21-27th of August at Perisher and Thredbo.Ben Treloar | MIC of Snow SportsDimitri Sidiropoulos (12Yo) | 1st VI CaptainAnnual Appeal | Your Support Needed and AppreciatedFirst and foremost I would like to publicaly thank those individuals and families who have donated generously to our Annual Appeal2012. CROSS COUNTRYSaturday 4th August 2012Host School: Barker CollegeVenue: North Ryde CommonThe promise of Spring greeted competitors on Saturday morning, providing near perfect conditions for Cross Country. However, this was not enough to help our teams into the medals, despitesome excellent individual performances. In the Under 14s,Joshua Seet-Lee (8Ke) returned from a one week lay-off andresumed his position at the head of the Trinity pack at 18th placeoverall. Tom Salmon (7Ta), fresh from ‘burning-off’ his coach attraining just the day before, was not far behind in 21st place. Ourthird placed runner was Derek Leung (7Fo). The big improverwas Andrew Brown (8Fo), who set a personal best and showedas much promise as the weather. The Under 16s were brilliantly led by Cameron Griffith (10Yo),who cruised to victory. Matthew Crowhurst (10Ho), MitchellNeedham (10La) and Andrew Lin (9WH) each raced solidly, finishing in respective order, and only eight points behindCranbrook. Our Open’s could not achieve a full team, as several boys were‘missing in action’, following the lead of our Captain. Fortunately, the ever-reliable Arthur Divis (11Hi) was at hand, and joined ina rare outing by Oscar Szeto (12Ke), to fly the Trinity colours. With the CAS Championships back at North Ryde Commonon Saturday, our hopes for medal placings for our Under 14sand Under 16s, are riding on the promise that each of our boyshas shown to date. Now is the time to emerge from the winter’shibernation!Andrew Pierce | Cross CountrySunday 5th August 2012Annual Iron Cove Bay RunVenue: Iron CoveOn Sunday the Annual Iron Cove Bay Run was held and Trinitypresented a strong team. The team of Mr Bradley Woods(23.01 – 12th), Cameron Griffith (10Yo) (23.45 - 19th), MitchellNeedham (10La) (25.20 – 39th) and Mathew Crowhurst (10Ho)(25.35 – 44th) ran extremely well and won the team event in theoutstanding time of 1hr 37 mins and 38 secs – this is an averagetime of 24mins 25secs for each runner. Congratulations alsogo the Braeden Ferdinands, (10WJ), (30.57 – 270th), ArthurDivis (11Hi) (31.10 – 284th) and Oliver Ashton (7WH), (33.43– 482nd) who also ran excellent races and recorded outstandingtimes over the 7km course. All the Trinity athletes were dressimmaculately in their Michael Spratt designed cross countryoutfits and presented a great advertisement for Cross Countryrunning at the School. Our thanks go to Kathy Griffith fororganizing the team and for providing an excellent photographicrecord of this year’s event.Keith Dobbs | Cross CountryCAS Debating - Round 3 vs BarkerRound 3 of the CAS Debating Competition saw Trinity face thein-form Barker contingent, a night that was sure to showcasemany heated debates and test Trinity’s debating abilities. TheJunior teams won the majority of debates in their division, withfour from six debates. The Year 7 teams debated the topic,“That students should be able to choose between trade schoolsubjects and academics from Year 7”, whilst the Year 8 and 9teams were given the topic, “That there should be a nationalnumber of hours of work per week”. At the midway point ofthe night, the 7B, 8A, 9A and 9B teams had all recorded veryimportant victories for Trinity. The Senior division expected tohave a difficult time defeating the senior Barker debaters. TheYear 10s were unfortunate in not winning debating the topic,“That government offices should be moved to regional centres”.The Third III was disappointed, losing their debate after affirmingthe topic, “That we should allow mining projects to import foreignworkers”. The Second III recorded their first victory in a while, winning an emphatic debate with all speakers putting out seasonbest performances to win, negating the topic, “That we shouldheavily tax inheritance”. Unfortunately, the First III weren’t ableto continue their impressive form, coming in second best withthe negative side of the topic, “That we should only give aid tonations which pursue environmentally sustainable development”.At the end of the night, Trinity won five of the eleven debates, aclose round overall. Many thanks must go to the chairmen and tothose who contribute to the suppers, allowing for a much easiernight on the whole.Congratulations to those victorious teams on Friday:7B8A9A9BSecond III:DEBATINGAruren Ravichandran (7Ho)Enzo Lee Solano (7Sc)Peter Kostoglou (7Sc)Jimmy Katsikis (8Hi)Sidarth Parulekar (8Du)Andrew McNaughton (8Fo)Alex Connolly (9Ar)luke Henry (9Ta)Rohan Browning (9Du)Rishab Bhargava (9We)James Douglas (9La)John Stapleton (9Sc)Liam Obeid (11Hi)Johnny Farhart (11Ho)Manish Poologasundram (11St)Tonight we debate Waverley College at Waverley.
