This scenario may occur through the extinction of thesupernova light by intervening material, and/or through “failingsupernovae” in which no, or only a very weak, explosion occursand which may be the birth sites of stellar-mass black holes. Aneutrino and gravitational-wave coincidence, in the absence of anoptical signal, would provide smoking-gun evidence for this scenario.It is worth noting that the rate of such failed supernovae may becomparable to the rate of supernovae with optical signals.C.
