Advancementdigest$50 Million Campaign to Provide Scholarships, ImprovementsRockhurst University has embarkedon a $50 million fund-raisingcampaign to support scholarships,faculty and student developmentprograms, and campus improvements.More than $30 million already hasbeen raised for the Excellence in theCity campaign. Campaign co-chairsare Shirley Helzberg, R. CrosbyKemper III and Thomas A. McDonnell.Major goals of the Excellence inthe City Campaign include:Endowed Scholarships$11.5 millionEndowed scholarships ensurethat deserving, talented students areable to choose Rockhurst. In addition,minority scholarships are critical tothe University’s ability to attract andretain a diverse student body.Faculty Development$6 millionTeaching is at the core of theJesuit mission. Four endowedchairs will be established toexpand Rockhurst’s resources andopportunities in the disciplinesof biology, urban education,entrepreneurship and multiculturalstudies/communication sciencesand disorders.Unrestricted Funds$5 millionUnrestricted funds help close thegap between the cost of operatinghigh-quality educational programsand actual tuition income. Inaddition, these funds help Rockhurstdevelop new programs, pay for annualoperating expenses and maintenanceof facilities, support facultydevelopment initiatives, and providescholarships and financial aid.Student Development$2 millionTo ensure that Rockhurst continuesto address the physical, emotionaland spiritual needs of its students,funding is needed to continue andexpand student service trips, healthand wellness programs, and thecampus ministry program.Community Center$1.5 millionIn an effort to better addresscommunity needs, services offeredthrough the Center will include aMcGruff Safe House, a communitymeeting room and a literacy center. Inaddition, the positions of communityrelations officer and an assistant willbe created.Thomas More Center for the Studyof Catholic Thought and Culture$1 millionThe center will advance thestudy of and dialogue about the richintellectual and cultural tradition ofthe Roman Catholic Church. Anendowment will support the center’sactivities, such as communityworkshops and academic conferences.Endowment for theCenter for Arts and Letters$500,000The Center for Arts and Letters isan affiliation of 15 cultural organizationsat Rockhurst that includes suchpopular attractions as the GreenleaseGallery and Visiting Scholar LectureSeries. An endowment will permanentlyestablish this valuable resourceand inspiration for the community.Sedgwick Hall Renovation$8.2 millionThe oldest building onRockhurst’s campus now houses theMabee Theater and classrooms for theCollege of Arts and Sciences. The goalis to modernize the entire buildingand make repairs to ensure thebuilding’s structural integrity.Conway Hall Renovation$6.5 millionRenovation of Conway Hall, whichhouses the School of Management,will include an upgrade of computerservices, technological improvementssuch as satellite and video conferencingcapabilities, remodeling of facultyoffices, a new Executive Fellows MBAsuite, and a new home for the SmallBusiness Development Center.Loyola Park Complex$5.5 millionThe 16-acre complex will includea baseball stadium, tennis courts,and walking and jogging paths. Thepark will provide more recreationalopportunities, create a safer, moreattractive residential setting, andenhance neighborhood connections.Soccer Stadium$1.85 millionA new stadium will consist of anexpanded soccer field, new grandstandcomplete with press box, ticket boothsand concession sales area, and lockerand training room facilities.Alumni House$450,000The Alumni House, a renovatedhouse complete with meeting roomsand displayed artifacts, will becomea Rockhurst landmark. It will be avehicle to instill pride and a sense oftradition among its graduates andwithin Kansas City.
