Eruption of the tooth disrupts this blood supply and the cementum dies. If thecementum in the infundibulum is incompletely <strong>for</strong>med at this time, a deficiency incalcification occurs. When the crown wears to the level of the softer cementum, foodcan accumulate in the defect and bacterial decay of the cementum may follow(previously called infundibular necrosis). This may eventually communicate with thepulp leading to endodontic involvement and eventual loss of the tooth.
