Modern taekwondo cameinto existence a little over half a century ago, and since then it has become one <strong>of</strong> the most popular martial arts inthe world. Taekwondo is particularly renowned for its fluid footwork and explosive kicks. Because <strong>of</strong> its immensepopularity, taekwondo has been an <strong>of</strong>ficial Olympic sport since the 2000 Sydney games.<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Michigan</strong> Taekwondo ClubThe <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Michigan</strong> Taekwondo Club is a student‐run organization under the RecSports department. While weemphasize the sport and athletic aspects <strong>of</strong> taekwondo, you will learn everything necessary to be well‐rounded in themartial art. This is a great way for students interested in getting a great physical workout while learning and refiningthe fundamentals <strong>of</strong> taekwondo. The club is open to all levels from beginner to advanced, and we compete actively inregional and collegiate tournaments.. Club dues are $80 for the winter semester and are due by the end <strong>of</strong> January.Our members begin with varying levels <strong>of</strong> experience. Many people come to us with no prior experience, whileothers have trained for several years. <strong>UMTKD</strong> is open to ALL experience levels.
