We are a small group <strong>of</strong>children ages 2-10. The 2006 <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Marys</strong> River Road RunThe fourteenth running <strong>of</strong> the <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Marys</strong> River RoadRun is set to take place on Sunday, September 24,2006. Following tradition, two race distances will be<strong>of</strong>fered: a fast 3 kilometre route and a challenging 14kilometre run along the Thames River. The 14 kilometrerace will definitely test the most serious <strong>of</strong> runners,while the 3 kilometre race is suitable for walkers aswell as any “speedsters”. Last year's new start and finishat the Quarry were very positively received!All proceeds from the races will go to the <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Marys</strong>Memorial Hospital; last year’s race raised $8500 for thehospital’s Wellness Centre. Entry fees are $30 for the14 km race and $20 for the 3 km (before September 11)and include a unique T-shirt; there is also a specialfamily entry fee. There are many different access points to thetrail for eg, you can access it from Lion’s Park. You canalso enjoy reading the names <strong>of</strong> donators on the plaquesthat line the bridge over the Thames. Plaques are availableto purchase for $35 donation. Arrangements can bemade at <strong>Recreation</strong> Department.Riverview Walkway: Scenic 1.5 km walk along theeastern bank <strong>of</strong> the Thames river. Have a nice leisurelywalk along the river and enjoy the view <strong>of</strong> VictoriaBridge, Little Falls, and the wildlife along the riverbanks.The Flats: Located on the Thames River, this picturesquepark <strong>of</strong>fers the scenery <strong>of</strong> the Grand TrunkTrail and the north end <strong>of</strong> the falls. The Flats is a restfularea to enjoy a picnic lunch, launch a small boat at theramp, watch a game <strong>of</strong> lawn bowling or an evening baseballgame.Lion’s Park: Located at the north end <strong>of</strong> the Flats is anewly structured wooden shelter with picnic tables andhydro. This is a great location to have family picnics andenjoy the view <strong>of</strong> the Grand Trunk Trail. 34EVENTS7TH ANNUAL THAMES RIVER CLEAN UPWe would like to invite you to participate in The 7th Annual Thames River Clean Up. This year promises to bebigger and better than ever! All registered participants will be eligible to win a brand new canoe donatedby Nova Craft Canoe!During the past six years, many environmentally concerned volunteers, landowners, clubs, organizations andmunicipalities have all pulled together during Earth Week to help clean up portions <strong>of</strong> the Thames River. Lastyear 1,800 volunteers were able to clean up 212 km <strong>of</strong> the Thames River and tributaries. This year, the ThamesRiver Clean Up will happen on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd. The wives, daughters,legally- adopted daughters, mothers, widows, sisters,granddaughters, grandmothers, nieces, <strong>of</strong> MasterMasons in good standing may become members <strong>of</strong> theOrder <strong>of</strong> the Eastern <strong>St</strong>ar.The Order <strong>of</strong> the Easter <strong>St</strong>ar is dedicated to benevolentwork for the betterment <strong>of</strong> the communities. TheFlorence Nightingale Home Foundation makes presentations<strong>of</strong> much needed equipment to hospitals all overOntario. As <strong>of</strong> January 2006 over 200 presentations witha value <strong>of</strong> over $1,000,000 have been made.4-HThe Ontario 4-H Program is about opportunities, personaldevelopment, making friends, and having fun. 4-H helps young people (10-21 years <strong>of</strong> age) learn selfconfidenceand new skills.
