Astrainees we starttogether, we sharework experiencesand prepare forexams together. Wesupport each otherand also socialisetogether”ClareAs a trainee accountant my assignments can vary day to day depending on the jobs Iam appointed to. Initially I worked on small accounts preparation jobs and have sincehad the opportunity to see audits through from beginning to end whether they aresingle entities or a group of companies. From when I joined with the Firm, I have beengiven “hands on” experience and have been out meeting with clients on assignments. Also early on in my contract, I worked directly with one our Audit Partners on anassignment, which was initially a somewhat daunting prospect, but I always foundthem to be very approachable and they made time to explain and provide assistanceto me. Jobs can be based in the office or on site at the client’s premises and may lastfor a number of days, weeks and perhaps months.I have had the opportunity to work individually and also as part of a team, where I was assigned as the audit junior,on various audits over a range of client sectors which have included property management, publishing, haulage, graphic design and the publican trade. Starting a new job and sitting professional exams can bean apprehensive experience. In the beginning, finding time for work, study andmyself proved to be a challenge, but the support of my mentor, and also managers and partners alike, helped me.Working in practice and the support from RSM FarrellGrant Sparks has definitely helped towards my exams.Whilst sitting my exams the Firm has provided tutorial support which has definitely helped me to prepare and I feltfar more confident sitting the exams. In addition, I really enjoy the social events organised by the Firm. It is a greatway to get to know people from the other departments as well as providing a good atmosphere and I always makea point of attending as many as I can.4 5
