IntroductionAs explained in the last edition <strong>of</strong> Snippets, in May we applied to the Growthand Innovation Fund for seed funding to develop the <strong>Six</strong> <strong>Million</strong> <strong>Strong</strong>project and we were successful. The funding allows us to develop a fullproposal, due to be submitted mid-October. If successful, the projectwould start in January 2013 until March 2015.The youth sector workforce is <strong>Six</strong> <strong>Million</strong> <strong>Strong</strong>, the vast majority beingvolunteers. This project helps employers (that’s any voluntary youthorganisation with a workforce) to make smarter investments in training andskills. The following in<strong>form</strong>ation outlines the opportunities for you toregister your <strong>interest</strong> in potentially benefiting from this project.It is important to stress that demonstrating youth sector <strong>interest</strong> in thisproject will be crucial to securing the investment, and by consequencesecuring the future <strong>of</strong> <strong>NCVYS</strong>’s workforce development team beyondDecember this year. So if you value our workforce development services,and you think the ideas and structures behind <strong>Six</strong> <strong>Million</strong> <strong>Strong</strong> will be usefulto you, please register your <strong>interest</strong> now. And if they are not, please tell ushow they should change so we can consider adapting them before we makeour final application.Do you wish to recruit more volunteers?Become a Volunteer Investor Partner (VIP)!<strong>NCVYS</strong> has published guidance and an Expression <strong>of</strong> Interest <strong>form</strong> forvoluntary youth organisations wishing to invest in their volunteer workforce(existing or new volunteers), and use the s<strong>up</strong>port available through <strong>Six</strong> <strong>Million</strong><strong>Strong</strong> to do so:Get free access to Youth Sector Pathways: our new workforceweb portal, to advertise your volunteer opportunities and <strong>of</strong>fer tovolunteers e.g. your bespoke package <strong>of</strong> training and development.Advice is available to help you develop a fantastic volunteer<strong>of</strong>fer: <strong>NCVYS</strong> staff and consultants can help you assess yourexisting investment in volunteers, look at how many volunteers yo<strong>up</strong>lan to recruit in the future and what you can <strong>of</strong>fer them in terms <strong>of</strong>training etc. as well as quantify the benefits for your organisation.1


<strong>Six</strong> <strong>Million</strong> <strong>Strong</strong> will work with employers seeking to increase the size and effectiveness <strong>of</strong> itsvolunteer workforce, focusing on better retention, recognition and rewards. Volunteers who are wells<strong>up</strong>ported and equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge are crucial to the successful delivery<strong>of</strong> services to young people, in a climate <strong>of</strong> declining funds.By completing the Expressions <strong>of</strong> Interest <strong>form</strong> it will help you to map the training and developmentneeds <strong>of</strong> your volunteer workforce and it assists with workforce planning. TIPs are collaborativevehicles for stimulating increased employer investment in workforce development, training and skills -and can be used for viturally any activity that s<strong>up</strong>ports this aim. Funding would take the <strong>form</strong> <strong>of</strong> aconditional grant (based on match funding from the partners involved).
