The measurement isprecisely recorded for direct readingon a single calibration scale.• No laboratory turnaround time, nopower requirement, and no user calibrationneeded.• Ease and simplicity of use saves trainingtime (training video available),sampling time, and provides a moreaccurate analysis.• A lifetime warranty, thus ensuringyears of dependable, trouble-free operation.No other system offers the Sensidynepump’s combination of superior featuresand benefits.Principles of OperationEach detector tube contains a reagentthat is specifically sensitive to a particularvapor or gas.These reagents are on fine-grain silicagel, activated alumina or other absorbingmedia (depending upon applicationrequirements), inside a constantinner diameter, hermetically sealedglass tube.Most Sensidyne detector tubes are the“direct-reading” type, with calibrationmarkings right on the tube, so measurementscan be made as simply andprecisely as reading a thermometer.The actual operation is simple and accurate.Just snap off both “breakaway” ends of a tube in the convenienttube-tip breaker, insert the tubeinto the hand held pump, and pull outthe pump handle. And that’s it.As the handle is pulled (just like asyringe), a precisely measured volumeof ambient air is drawn inside the tubewhere it contacts the reagent.Instantly, the reagent changes color.The reagent reacts quantitatively toprovide a length-of-stain indication.The farther the color stain travelsalong the tube, the higher the concentrationof gas. Every tube box carries the qualitycontrol number and chemical symbol.The expiration date is prominentlystamped on each box.Expandable Measuring RangeThe calibration curve on most of theSensidyne detector tubes is a straightline, and points on the scale are atequal intervals. This means you canmeasure concentrations above or belowthe printed scale by simply increasingor decreasing the number ofpump strokes, as indicated on the instructionsheet.Precision Piston PumpTwo critical factors affecting the accuracyof detector tube measurementsare the flow rate and the volume of airdrawn through the tube by the pump.If the flow rate or volume varies, thesample will not be accurate.With a precision piston pump, air flowis initiated by the pump vacuum,which stays constant after continueduse.The vacuum is not spring-assisted aswith “squeeze-type” pumps. The suctionof squeeze-type pumps is determinedalmost exclusively by the forceof springs within the pump.
