“The Wright Roadtrip”continued from page 21to visit the Biltmore Estate. Now, thatis one large home ! It takes about 2hours of steady walking and climbingto explore it on the self guided tour.It was built at a time of no income taxand money was not an issue.After leaving Asheville, weheaded to Alabama to visit our lastWright house on the trip. From therewe drove the Natchez Trace Parkwayinto Natchez, Mississippi and spentthe last night of our vacation in oneof our favorite B&Bs, MonmouthPlantation.We arrived home on Sunday,Father’s Day, very happy to have donethe “Wright Roadtrip” and just as gladto be back home !!!Making our way to Wright’smasterpiece “Fallingwater”, we drovethrough the hills of westernPennsylvania. What great roads andbeautiful scenery are there. Aftertouring Fallingwater, we went toJohnstown, Pennsylvania, site of theinfamous Johnstown flood of 1889.The museum in downtown Johnstownis in the library that was built after theflood. The original library wasdestroyed in the flood, with many ofthe downtown buildings at that time.We then went to the damsite which isrun by the National Park Servicewhere the remains of the dam are stillvery visible. It is a beautiful area, withmountains and streams everywhere.We left Western Pennsylvania andheaded for Asheville, North CarolinaFallingwaterMill Run, PAprobably Wrights most famoushouse...October 2009 22Tejas Trax
