ConclusionA proposed concept of optimal utilization of a <strong>in</strong>verter (virtually<strong>in</strong>active dur<strong>in</strong>g night time <strong>in</strong> terms of active power generation)as a STATCOM has been proposed and validated throughMATLAB/Simul<strong>in</strong>k simulations. The <strong>in</strong>verter is used to regulatethe distribution voltage at grid bus with<strong>in</strong> utility specified limits.The proposed strategy of voltage control device will facilitate<strong>in</strong>tegration of more power plants <strong>in</strong> the system without anyadditional voltage-regulat<strong>in</strong>g devices. This novel strategy impliesoperat<strong>in</strong>g power plant as a generator dur<strong>in</strong>g the day [provid<strong>in</strong>gmegawatts (MW)] and ancillary services provider at night[provid<strong>in</strong>g mega volt amperes (MVARS)]. It is worth not<strong>in</strong>g thatgrid codes typically do not allow DGs to manage the PCC voltages,this is considered to be the task of utilities.
