In a new experimental approach being undertaken inZimbabwe the concept of building single Blair VIP units isbeing tried at schools rather than multi-compartment units.These units have been designed so they are relatively low cost and awherethe structures can either be built fully or partly by the childrenthemselves. Many of the parts are recyclableThe door-less spiral superstructure is the preferred option for schools
The unit is based onthe Blair VIP concept .The pit has beenreshaped to be wider(1.4m ID) butshallower (2m), whichmakes it easier toconstruct. The pit islined with bricks usinga corbelling techniquewhere the base iswider than the top.The superstructures isbuilt in the form of adoor-less spiralswhich have no movingparts.
