Support Classes (per class)SaturdaySundayPractice Session 1 Practice Session 2Race 1 Race 4Race 2 Race 5Race 3 Race 61810.02 When conditions necessitate deviation from this format, announcements of anychanges will be made by the Race Director at the driver’s meeting or throughout theday (as required).1810.03 Changes may include the number of boats that in the opinion of the Race Directorwould be a safe field on the racecourse, at the same time.1810.04 The committee may also alter the standard race format to provide for other classes.1811 THE COURSE1811.01 The Race Director will be responsible for specifying the racecourse design and lengthafter taking into account the following factors:The layout of the waterway (sand banks, width of river etc)Location of spectator viewing area/s.Timing / timers location and in turn the location of the start finish buoy.Location required for the dock/beach starts and subsequent straight line to firstturn buoy.Positioning of the first turn so that it can be filmed from both the safety boat andthe land (perpendicular to the first turn buoy).1811.02 Refer to Group 600 rules of the APBA book for other rules that apply in relation to thecourse1812 QUALIFYING, LAPS, STARTS AND RESTARTS1812.1 QUALIFYING1812.1 All boats must complete a minimum of two laps in each official qualifying session.1812.1.1 Boats will qualify under “Hot Lap” conditions.1812.1.2 Each driver will complete one timed “hot” lap. The pole positions will be determinedon times – fastest hot lap wining Pole 1, second fastest Pole 2, etc.1812.1.3 Boats not completing any laps in qualifying will only be permitted to start at the rear ofthe grid or on a delayed start if the grid is already at its maximum capacity, and at thediscretion of the Race Director.1812.1.4 In the event that two or more boats have the same hot lap times, the affected boatswill be asked to complete a second “hot lap”.1812.1.5 The fastest time taken out of the second set of hot laps will secure the higher polepositions out of the tied boats.1812.1.6 The second set of times taken will not be compared against the rest of the group’stimes.1812.1.7 The starting positions of subsequent races in the event will be determined by thefinishing positions of each boat in the preceding race.1812.2 CONSOLATION RACE1812.2.1 A consolation race may be held before the first race for a class only if the number ofqualified entrants exceeds what is to be considered by the Race Director to be thesafe number of boats to be run on the course at one time, and at the discretion of theRace Director.
1812.2.2 If a consolation race is held, approximately 75% of the grid for the first heat will befilled by qualifying times, the remaining 25% of the grid positions will be filled by thefinishers, in their finishing order, of the consolation race up to the number required.1812.2.3 Points will be awarded on the finishing positions of each race.1812.3 LAPS1812.3.1 The following laps will apply to each Grand Prix style race:ClassLapsFormula 1 15Formula 2 10Formula 3 8Support Classes 31812.3.2 The Race Director may amend the number of laps the class will race if it is requiredfor safety or race/event administration reasons.1812.3.3 Drivers will be advised of the number of laps applicable to each event at the driversbriefing at that event.1812.3.4 Timing and Laps are counted only after the first time past the start finish line.1812.4 MINIMUM LAP REQUIREMENT – Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3 classesonly1812.4.1 In order for a driver to be eligible to receive race points, the driver must havecompleted at least 50% of the scheduled race distance and the boat must pass racecontrol under chequered flag conditions, under its own power.1812.4.2 At the discretion of the Race Director, the black recall flag will only be shown once allboats have passed race control.1812.43 Drivers that have completed at least 50% of the scheduled race distance and thathave stopped on the course and then restarted, but do not pass race control underchequered flag conditions will not be eligible to receive race points for that race. (e.g.the boat cuts across the course to return directly to the pits)1812.5 RACE STARTS1812.5.1 Formula 1, 2 & 3 races will be started using a dead engine dock start as described inthese rules.1812.5.2 Formula 1, 2 & 3 restarts may be by dock start or pace boat restart.1812.5.3 Support races will be started using a pole boat start and in accordance with APBArules1812.5.4 Formula Futures will start a handicap clock start procedure and in accordance withAPBA rules1812.6 WARM UP – Under the direction of the Race Director, all senior boats will bepermitted to enter the course and do one warm up lap prior to approaching the dockor start area.1812.6.1 All boats must start from the designated start area.1812.7 DOCK START PROCEDUREa. All drivers must come into the designated start area in their Pole order (Pole 1comes in first; Pole 2 comes in second, etc.).b. Drivers who come in to the designated start area in the incorrect order will besent to the end of the starting grid (or to a lower position in the start order if the
