T HE E PSILON C OUPLINGO V E R V I E WOPW Engineered Systems Offers a ComprehensiveFamily of High-Quality Dry Disconnect SolutionsOPW Engineered Systems’ EPSILON coupling andcontainment system provides chemical processorswith dry disconnect couplings that allow the safeconnection and disconnection of flexible hoses.EPSILON dry disconnect product’s modulardesign dramatically reduces worker exposure tochemicals and the release of chemicals into theenvironment.Chemical transfer applications include: tank car, rail car, bulk storage, process vessel, reactor andfiltration units.Because it is engineered as a single unit, thefluid containment system reduces the need formultiple valving and coupling components aswell as the need for bulky, expensive hood andtrough systems to contain and manage thespillage associated with traditional fluid connections. The EPSILON system is designed to providespace savings and greater design flexibilitywhen engineering or re-engineering equipmentand facilities.Best of all, the positive shut-off valves of bothcoupling halves not only prevent the on-goingrelease of chemicals found in most batchManifold station with EPSILON adapters.processing applications, but they also eliminateline contamination from the environment duringthe connection and disconnection process. OPWEngineered Systems’ EPSILON dry disconnectcouplings protect process chemicals from theenvironment and protect the environment fromthe chemicals.KAMVALOK ®OPW Kamvalok ® dry disconnect couplings are consideredthe standard of the industry. Used at liquid transferpoints where product loss could occur, OPW Kamvaloks ®provide a reliable solution to prevent spillage duringconnection or disconnection.OPW Kamvalok ® dry disconnect couplings are usedby manufacturers of paint, lacquers, inks, adhesives, fatty acids, pharmaceuticals, liquid soaps, and manyother liquid products. They are particularly well suitedfor handling petroleum products, solvents, ag-chemicals,vegetable oils, detergents and many acids and caustics.DRYLOK Drylok is designed to safely transfer hazardouscorrosive, volatile liquids such as acids, solvents andpetrochemicals. An interlocking handle averts accidentalspills by preventing uncoupling while the valve is open. And, the unit’s flat face minimizes fluid loss, furtherreducing exposure to risk during operation. Drylok isideal for all kinds of hazardous fluids where productloss is a problem, such as high-pressure lines, high flowrates, slurries, and gases.2IMPORTANT: OPW products should be used in compliance with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local laws and regulations. Product selection should bebased on physical specifications and limitations and compatibility with the environment and materials to be handled. OPW MAKES NO WARRANTY OF FITNESSFOR A PARTICULAR USE. T HE E PSILON C OUPLINGT ECHNOLOGY FOR THE R EAL W ORLDConcave/ConvexFull-Flow Shut-Off ValveA convex ball nests in a concave ball to virtuallyeliminate any cavity between the mating halves. The positive shut-off ball valves, and the absenceof a cavity between them, minimize chemical losswhen the coupling is disconnected. Each half is anindependently operated, positive shut-off ballvalve that is controlled by manually rotating thevalve handles. The straight-through EPSILON valve design also provides unrestricted, high flowin either direction and low pressure drop. All metalwetted components are 316 stainless steel orHastelloy ® .Spring-Energized and Spring-LoadedTeflon ® U-Cup SealingAn energized wave spring holds the stem seal, face seal, and flange seal out, providing initialsealing. The spring supplies all of the load requiredfor sealing when the media pressure is too low tofully actuate the lips of the seal. Testing confirmsthat the ultra low spillage and emissionspecifications are still achieved after 2,000 cycles.Male and Female Lug andFlange Connection InterfacesRamped lug and flange interfaces are first alignedand then connected with a push, followed by aquarter (90°) turn. This “instant” connectionmethod is done by hand without tools in order tocreate compression on the critical interface seal.* Teflon ® is a Registered Trademark of DuPont.ThumbButtonThumbButtonThumbButtonEPSILON coupler mounted to the end of a chemical hose.Independent and RedundantSafety InterlocksEPSILON technology involves 5 independent andredundant mechanical interlocks. They requiredeliberate sequential action by users, therebyeliminating unintentional spills and catastrophicchemical releases that threaten worker safety andthe environment.Designed for MaintainabilityOPW Engineered Systems’ EPSILON designsallow for easy maintenance. Seals, stems andbearings can be replaced to keep the connectionsperforming like new.4IMPORTANT: OPW products should be used in compliance with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local laws and regulations.
