2012-13 13 HCAM / MCAL FUTURE NURSE LEADERSIs there a need for future leaders? This session for Nurses ONLYAt a time when the long-term care industry is facing a significant increase in consumer demand, the availableworkforce is declining. While organizations are working to train current leaders through various programs, there is aneed for developing future NURSE leaders. The HCAM / MCAL Future NURSE Leaders Program provides nurses withthe information, training and encouragement they need to become the leaders of the future, preparing them tomentor and lead other individuals to follow in their paths. The U.S. Bureau of the Census reported that in 1995 there were 1,182,000 people 65 years of age and older inMichigan. In 2025, that number is expected to grow to 1,821,000. This is an increase of more than 600,000 people. The 1995 census also showed that 4,900,000 people between the ages of 25 and 64 represent Michigan’s availableworkforce. The interesting news is that in 2025 this number will remain the same. In other words, as the number ofelderly increases in Michigan, the available workforce numbers will not follow suit.
