By car:
Take the A7 or A3 in the direction of Schweinfurt. Exit at Kreuz Biebelried and then
join the B303 to Coburg;
B4 Nuremberg – Bamberg – Coburg - Erfurt; The so-called „Frankenschnellweg“
(Franconian fast road), A73, should be completed at some point in 2008 (at the
moment completed in parts);

Please note that opening times vary during the year and therefore that programmes

In the morning: Guided tour of the town including a visit to St. Moriz church (2 hours)
and then to Ehrenburg Palace (about 45 minutes). This includes trying the traditional

Allgemeine Geschäftsbedingungen
1.Vermittlung: Der Tourismus & Congress Service Coburg vermittelt mit der Sorgfalt eines ordentlichen Kaufmanns Gästeführer an
interessierte Einzelgäste und Gruppen. Vertragspartner einer solchen Führung sind der Besteller einerseits und der Gästeführer andererseits.
Alle Vertragsbeziehungen regeln sich zwischen diesen beiden Partnern gemäß den nachfolgenden Punkten.
2. Bestellung: Der Tourismus & Congress Service Coburg vermittelt Führungen mit ausgebildeten Führungskräften nach vorheriger
Bestellung. Wir bitten um Ihre schriftliche Bestellung bis spätestens 10 Tage vor dem gewünschten Führungstermin, so dass eine
Auftragsbestätigung noch erfolgen kann. Kurzfristigere Bestellungen werden ohne Gewähr auf Durchführbarkeit nach bestem Wissen und
Gewissen vermittelt.
3. Leistungsbeschreibung, Vergütung: Ab dem 1. April 2003 gelten folgende Konditionen für Führungshonorare:
a) Preise für deutschsprachige Führungen pro Führer/Gruppe/Stunden:
2 Stunden 55,00 Euro
3 Stunden 75,00 Euro
4 Stunden 95,00 Euro
jede weitere angefangene Stunde: + 20,00 Euro. Eintrittspreise sind im Honorar nicht enthalten (siehe 11.).
b) Preise für fremdsprachige Führungen pro Führer/Gruppe wie unter a) und c): + 10,00 Euro.
c) Preise für Tagestouren 140,00 Euro pro Bus (1 Reiseleiter)
d) Mindestteilnehmerzahlen für Stadtführungen und Reiseleitungen gibt es nicht, jedoch darf pro Gästeführer eine Gruppengröße von 25
Personen nicht überschritten werden. Bei Reiseleitungen wird ein Reiseleiter pro Omnibus eingesetzt (siehe 12.).
e) Die Preise enthalten keine Mehrwertsteuer. Zu bezahlen sind grundsätzlich alle bestellten und schriftlich bestätigten Details.
f) Der Zeitraum für die Berechnung des Honorars beginnt zum schriftlich vereinbarten Zeitpunkt des Führungsbeginns.
4. Bearbeitungsgebühr: Die genannten Preise für Führungen enthalten Bearbeitungsgebühren für den Tourismus & Congress Service Coburg
von 10,00 Euro. Die Bearbeitungsgebühr bezieht sich pro Gästeführer.
5. Wartezeit, Ausfall: Der Gästeführer ist verpflichtet, eine Wartezeit von 30 Minuten ab dem vereinbarten Zeitpunkt des Beginns der
Führung einzuhalten. Nach Ablauf von 30 Minuten steht es dem Gästeführer frei, weiter zu warten oder die Gruppe als nicht gekommen zu
betrachten (siehe 7.).
6. Änderungen bei verspätetem Eintreffen: Bei verspätetem Eintreffen der zu führenden Gäste muss zwischen diesen und dem Gästeführer
vereinbart werden, ob die Führung entsprechend verkürzt oder ob - falls der Gästeführer nicht anderen Verpflichtungen nachkommen muss -
die ursprünglich vereinbarte Dauer der Führung eingehalten werden soll. Im letzteren Fall berechnet sich das Honorar nach dem Zeitraum,
der sich aus der Wartezeit und der tatsächlichen Dauer der Führung zusammensetzt (siehe 3.).
7. Rücktritt: Wird eine bestellte Führung nicht in Anspruch genommen, ohne dass mindestens zwei Arbeitstage vor dem vereinbarten Termin
und während der Dienstzeiten des Tourismus & Congress Service Coburg eine Rücktrittserklärung übermittelt worden ist, wird ein
Ausfallhonorar in Höhe von 100 % des vereinbarten Honorars berechnet. Wurde die Dauer der Führung noch nicht festgelegt, so beträgt das
Ausfallhonorar 100 % des Betrages für 2 Stunden Dauer. Zur Vermeidung von Missverständnissen und aus organisatorischen Gründen wird
dringlichst empfohlen, den Rücktritt schriftlich zu erklären.
8. Zahlungsweise, Bearbeitungsgebühr: Soweit nicht anders vereinbart, wird das Führungshonorar unmittelbar nach Beendigung der Führung
vom Besteller oder dessen Beauftragten direkt und bar beim Gästeführer bezahlt. Auf Wunsch wird eine Quittung ausgestellt. In
Ausnahmefällen ist eine Rechnungsstellung möglich, die dann durch den Tourismus & Congress Service Coburg im Auftrag des
Gästeführers erfolgt. Für diese zusätzliche Leistung berechnet der Tourismus & Congress Service Coburg eine Bearbeitungspauschale: sie
beträgt 10,00 Euro.
9. Einschränkungen: Der Besteller einer Führung nimmt zur Kenntnis, dass Teile Coburgs zur Fußgängerzone umgestaltet wurden und für
den allgemeinen Kraftfahrzeugverkehr gesperrt sind, die Besichtigung somit nur zu Fuß erfolgen kann. Der Besteller nimmt ferner zur
Kenntnis, dass zu bestimmten Zeiten Sehenswürdigkeiten nicht zu besichtigen sind oder die Führung in ihrem Ablauf gestört werden kann
(z.B. Wochenmarkt, Samba-Festival etc.). Der Gästeführer bietet dafür Alternativen an, die in seinem Ermessen liegen, es sei denn, der
Besteller äußert konkrete, durchführbare Wünsche. Der Besteller erklärt sich hiermit einverstanden.
10. Treffpunkt, zusätzliche Leistungen: Üblicherweise ist der Treffpunkt für Stadtführungen der Marktplatz oder der Großparkplatz Anger.
Wünscht der Besteller jedoch, dass der Gästeführer die Gruppe außerhalb des Stadtgebietes - im angrenzenden Landkreis Coburg - abholt,
werden zusätzlich 15,00 Euro berechnet.
11. Eintrittsgelder: Anfallende, zum Führungszeitpunkt gültige Eintrittskosten sind grundsätzlich vom Besteller oder dessen Beauftragten vor
Beginn der Führung für alle Teilnehmer gemeinsam, direkt und bar beim Gästeführer zu bezahlen.
12. Gruppengröße: Pro Gästeführer darf eine Gruppengröße von 25 Personen nicht überschritten werden. Zählt die Gruppe mehr als 25
Personen, sind entsprechend der jeweiligen Teilnehmerzahl weitere Gästeführer zu bestellen. Bei Nichtbeachtung wird ein Aufschlag in
Höhe des vereinbarten Honorars fällig. Bei Reiseleitungen wird ein Reiseleiter pro Omnibus eingesetzt (siehe 3.d).
13. Haftung: Der Tourismus & Congress Service Coburg ist nur als Vermittler tätig. Insoweit ist jegliche Haftung für Schäden
ausgeschlossen. Der Gästeführer/Reiseleiter haftet nur bei grob fahrlässigem oder vorsätzlichem Handeln.
14. Anerkennung der Vertragsbestimmungen: Der Besteller einer Führung erkennt diese Bedingungen mit der Auftragserteilung an. Erhält er
von diesen Bedingungen erst nach der Auftragserteilung Kenntnis, erkennt er sie an, wenn er nicht unverzüglich nach Kenntnisnahme
schriftlich widerspricht.
15. Vermittlung, Anspruch: Die Vermittlung von Führungen regelt sich nach dem marktwirtschaftlichen Grundsatz von Angebot und
Nachfrage. Ein grundsätzlicher Anspruch auf die Vermittlung von Führungen besteht nicht.
16. Durchführung: Der Gästeführer ist hinsichtlich der Durchführung seiner Führungen nicht weisungsgebunden; er wird sich diesbezüglich
an den Wünschen der Gäste orientieren.
17. Gerichtsstand: Gerichtsstand ist Coburg.
18. Inkrafttreten: Die gegenständlichen neuen Geschäftsbedingungen treten ab 1. April 2003 in Kraft.

1 Art collections of the fortress of Coburg
The art collections are located in three connected historical wings of the fortress.
„Steinerne Kemenate“ (Stony bower) :Luther's rooms, the Great Court Chamber dating
from 1504, the Hunting Room with its marquetry dating from 1632, arts and handicrafts from
the Middle Age and the early modern time – for example Pietà from 1360, Madonna of
Bamberg from 1370, paintings by old German masters from the time of Dürer (including
paintings by Jörg Breu the Elder, Hans Burgkmair, Albrecht Dürer, Matthias Grünewald,
Lucas Cranach the Elder and more).
Carl-Eduard-Building: an internationally important collection of old glass (Venetian
glass, baroque glass), collections of porcelain, faience, tin and more; department of prints
and drawings including study room: about 330.000 prints by 5.000 masters of all European
schools dating from the 15 th century onwards. (request for use by telephone).
Herzoginbau (“Duchess’s Building”): collection of historical weapons (military and
hunting exhibits), ceremonial carriages (the oldest carriage still in working order in Europe),
sledges dating from the 16 th to 18 th century as well as modern ceramic pottery.

2 Museum of natural history
Exhibits: The Earth: minerals, crystals, rocks, marble mill; volcano slide show; Evolution:
Ice Ages, Evolution of the mammals, wild-life in the Rocky-Mountains (the rest of this
exhibition is under construction); History of the Earth: fossils, geology of Coburg; The Man:

3 Court Garden (Hofgarten)
Lavish park, English style, with precious old trees, the mausoleum of Duke Franz Friedrich
Anton and Duchess Auguste Caroline Sophie, the monument of the Coburg Convent, the
Duke-Alfred-Fountain, the equestrian statue of Duke Ernst II and the „Kleiner Rosengarten“
(„small rosegarden").

4 Pavillon and gallery of the association of the fine arts Coburg (Kunstverein Coburg)
Changing exhibitions of modern art as well as lectures,concerts and workshops. Approach
from Leopoldstraße.

5 Ehrenburg Palace
From 1547 to 1918, the Dukes of Coburg lived in this palace. Part of the palace dates from
the Renaissance period, the rest dates from the neo-Gothic period (19 th century); lavishlyfurnished
state- rooms and apartments, rooms used by Queen Victoria; Hall of Giants,
Gobelin Room, Red Reception Room, Picture gallery, Court Church with lavish stuccowork
(Italian craftsmen of the 17 th century), Throne Hall (neo-Classicism, 1831) and the ducal
rooms.

Regional academic library containing around 400.000 volumes from the 15 th – 21 th century
covering all disciplines. Issuing department and exhibitions in impressive rooms of Ehrenburg
palace, which are classified as historical monuments. The library provides the whole region
with literature and information.

Imposing square with the monument of Duke Ernst I, surrounded by Ehrenburg Palace, the
former royal stables, “Reithalle” (former indoor riding arena, now studio theatre), arcades,
Palais Edinburgh (now the Coburg Chamber of Commerce) and the State Theatre.

8 State theatre
Former court theatre (550 seats); official opening on Sept.17, 1840; it has an all-yearprogramme
and an own theatre troupe. Operas, operettas, musicals, plays, concerts, ballets,
"Frühschoppen" (morning pint), childrens' theatre and youthh theatre all take place here.
No performances from mid-July to the end of September.

9 Parish church of St. Augustin
Catholic parish church, finished in 1860, neo-Gothic style.

Koharygruft (Koharys' Crypt): The crypt is the last resting place of 15 members of the
Roman Catholic branch of the Coburg dukes, among others, Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria.

10 Buerglass palace (Bürglaßschlösschen)
Former residence of field marshal Prince Friedrich Josias and Tsar Ferdinand of Bulgaria;
today the former reception room is one of Germany’s most beautiful wedding halls.
11 Town gate Spitaltor
The northern town-gate of the historical town; height: 21,5 m; the spire is called “Welsche
Haube”. The other town-gates are the Judentor in the west (Judengasse) and the
Ketschentor in the south (Ketschengasse).
12 Market square (Marktplatz)
Monument of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, on the northern side of the square is
the former chancery called Stadthaus in late German Renaissance style with richly
ornamented gables and two oriels called “Coburger Erker”; opposite on the southern side of
the square: the town hall in Renaissance style with a prominemt oriel, a mansard roof and
on the top of the gable the statue of saint Mauritius (the patron saint of the town).
Next to the town hall: the building of the Sparkasse (Savings Bank) in rococo style. At the
corner of the market square/Steingasse: the former court pharmacy (Hofapotheke) – a
building in a mixed Gothic and Renaissance style and a beautiful Gothic oriel.

13 Mintmaster's house (Münzmeisterhaus)
The oldest half-timbered house in Coburg (and one of the oldest in Germany), 14 th century.

15 Casimirianum grammar school
A famous Renaissance building; the first grammar school in Coburg; No sightseeing!
16 Protestant parish church of St. Moriz
Late Gothic church; the interior was redone in baroque style in the middle of the 18 th century;
in the choir stands Nikolaus Bergner's 13m high alabaster memorial (epitaph) for Duke
Johann Friedrich the Middle (1598); in 1989 the Schuke organ was restored and installed in
the original restored frame made by the organ-builder Joh. Heinrich Daum, valuable
adornments from the year 1740. Martin Luther preached here in 1530.

24 Former mill "Hahnmühle"
Steinweg 68; situated on the Hahn river which is subterranean today; the valuable gable was
built in the high period of half-timbered constructions in Central Germany. Private!
25 The small Rosenau palace ("Rosenau-Schlösschen)
Located on the Rittersteich; built in 1435; former summer residence of the princes of
Rosenau in the middle of the Rittersteich; at that time it could only be reached by a
drawbridge;
the half-timbered building of today was built in 1671 due to Duke Johann Casimir;
nowadays administration inside.

26 Church Heiligkreuz
Originally built in Gothic style in the 15 th century; baroque inner church building of the 18 th
century; Renaissance font made of alabaster (1569); stucco ceiling and adornments of the

27 Memorial to Friedrich Rückert
Friedrich-Rückert-Str. 13, Coburg - Neuses. The poet and professor for oriental studies,
Friedrich Rückert, was born in Schweinfurt in 1788. He lived in a manor (built in 1776) in
Neuses, Coburg, upt to his death in 1866. His study – with the original furniture, books and
ornaments still in place - was opened to public by Rückerts’ heirs. There is a bust of the poet
in the adjoining Rückertpark.

Built in 1839 by Karl Balthasar Harres (student of Schinkel) on the terrain of the “Alte

31 Callenberg Castle
Neo-gothic jewel located in the midst of nature. First mentioned in 1122, since 1827 property
of the ducal family of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Since 1998 the castle houses the "ducal art
collection". The architecture and interior decoration of the rooms present the living culture of
the 19 th century. The guided tours tell how the small duchy made world history due to its
marriage policy. Highlights: furniture by Roentgen, the chapel from 1618, the historical inner
court and the idyllic rose garden. One wing houses the German Marksmen’s Museum.

19 Niederfüllbach Castle

20 Rosenau Castle
From the 15 th century till 1698 the castle was a property of the mintmasters of Rosenau. In
1816 the castle became the summer residence of the Coburg dukes and was rebuilt in English
neo-Gothic style; birth-place of Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria of Great Britain and

A collection of spectacular giant photographs as well as other displays enable the visitor to

25 Geyersberg Castle
Located above the town of Seßlach; originally the property of the Lords of Lichtenstein, later
an official seat of Würzburg; main building from the 17 th century; so called “Jägerhaus” (

The castle was built in 1705 for the Lords of Lichtenstein; court with loggia, estrade in front of

“Unteres Schloss” (moated castle): the castle was built on an orthogonal ground plan with

Astronomical teaching trail of our solar system, a hiking trail of 10 kms, from Untersiemau to
the Monastery of Banz, showing the different planets of our solar system. The distances

30 Museum for hunting and fishing in Tambach Palace
Tambach, Schlossallee 1a. The west wing of the baroque Tambach Palace is home to a
branch of the German Museum for hunting and fishing in Munich.

St. Moriz church
Late Gothic church; the interior was redone in the baroque style in the middle of the 18th century; in the
chancel stands Nikolaus Bergner’s 13m high memorial of Duke Johann Friedrich; in 1989, the church’s
beautifully-adorned organ, which dates back to 1749, was faithfully restored following the plans of the
original organ maker, Johann Heinrich Daum.
Martin Luther preached in St. Moriz church several times while he was living and working in the Veste,
where he
stayed for almost 6 months during the Augsburg Diet of 1530 (memorial bust of Martin Luther in the
church).

Koharys’ Crypt

Rödental
M.I. Hummel Information Centre and Museum for Porcelain at the Goebel factory
On a visit to the information centre and museum for porcelain at the Goebel factory in Rödental near
Coburg, you can learn about how the world-famous Hummel figurines are made. You can watch the
interesting short film about how the figurines are manufactured and about the life of the Franciscan Sister,
Maria Innocentia Hummel. There are not only Hummel figurines on display in the museum, but also
Thuringian porcelain from the 18 th and 19 th centuries as well as numerous works by various European
porcelain manufacturers.
