5 th <strong>Grade</strong> <strong>Research</strong> <strong>Project</strong>“The Countries of the World”It is your job to learn about one of “The Countries of the World.” This project willincorporate a detailed type written/ hand drawn magazine, notes/note cards used to createthe magazine, a Power Point project (Pecha Kucha) to aide in a presentation about yourcountry to the class, and a cooked dish from your country. Due dates for each piece arenext to the description.Magazine (Done in class and at home) Due Friday, April 26Notes due Monday, April 12Notes/Note cards will need to be used to plan out the factual information youwant to present in your magazine. (This helps you put everything in your ownwords)• I want the magazine modeled after the Time For Kids World Edition passed out inclass.• The Magazine must contain the following: (For a 3)• A cover depicting some aspect of your country with its name andyour name.• Introduction about your country• The demographics of your country (Talk about the different typesHanddrawn artis requiredon allpages &all piecestyped.of cultures, religions, languages, etc.)• Geography of your country and how that affects the people wholive there. (i.e. housing, activities for fun, weather, plant life, etc.)• 4 hand drawn postcards depicting unique aspects about yourcountry along with a detailed description.• Overview of your country’s history in a timeline format with adescription of the event. (Think about the timelines in your historybook only with descriptions. Talk about major events; things thatchanged the country forever.)• I want a page that has quick facts on it with a map of your country.(Hand drawn) Questions, a graph, flag and description, slogan,motto, song, etc.• Your country’s economy (what makes your country money) Talkabout both natural resources and manmade products.• 1 more thing that you found to be interesting or unique (here youcan be creative and add anything you want that teaches us aboutyour country)An additional 3 pieces of your choosing will be required to have the chance toreceive a 4You must have 3 sources and 1 must be a book. (A bibliography should beincluded at the end of your magazine. Information will be given out talking abouthow to write your bibliography later.)


Pecha KuchaPower Point <strong>Project</strong> & Presentation (Some class time and done at home)Due Friday, May 3A minimum of 17 slideso 1 Cover slide: Have a cover slide identifying name and country nameo 15 Picture Slides: Include pictures from the internet or scanned pictures.No Text will be used in this format. Only images willbe present to help you talk about your country. Theslide show will flip slides every 20 seconds to help yoube concise and keep on time.o 1 Bibliography slide: Telling me specifically where each image used camefrom.At the end of your presentation, you can share any other piece that you havecompleted for the project.Food (Done at home) Due Tuesday, May 7 th . (A lunch-in will be held and parentsare invited.) A dish from the country will need to be created. It can be a main dish, a side dish,or a dessert/treat. The student needs to aide in the creation of the dish. We do notwant anything that is simply store bought. More info. will come out at a later date. A hand printed recipe card will need to be present with the dish.Extra Credit(Done at home) OPTIONALCreate a video to be used as a commercial for your country (at least 1 minutelong)A recipe book that you have created with recipes from your country with handdrawn artwork included.Anything else you can think of to show off your country (ask before hand)Time will be given in the computer lab and in class, but a lot ofwork will need to be done at home.START NOW AND HAVE FUN!
