In49.54 overall.<strong>Tauranga</strong> Girls College, featuring<strong>Ramblers</strong> Esther, Ella, Julia & Shelbywon the Senior Girls relay in 58.49Opening Club Run for WinterSeason , Maxwells Rd 18/4/0824 Runners took part in a low key eventwhile several other non-running <strong>Ramblers</strong>and followers enjoying the sunshine at thestart/finish.Distances varied from 3km -8kmdepending on ability.Great to see a few new faces show up toexperience the <strong>Ramblers</strong> scene along with1-2 oldies, including life member KenSmith making a comeback.Ray Young gave out some spot prizes atthe finish.Half4Heart Half Marathon & 10km 7/4/09, from Ferguson ParkThe course was a bit short and I hear they didn’t do the extra circuit around the park,and chopped a bit off elsewhere too. First being early, then as he wasbreach Jess had an emergency C section,then his lungs were underdeveloped so hewas on Oxygen treatment for 4 days and atone point was going to be flown toHamilton but came right after a chemicalwas fed into his lungs. Things are nowwell under control, however Ben’sRotorua marathon training suffered a bitof a setback.World 10k with a buggy record attemptto be held in January. My heart goes out to Rotorua’sSteve O’Callaghan who came so close towinning, but who stumbled and fell just afew metres short of the line, allowingScott Winton through to steal the 1 st prize.Well done sto Iain MacDonald in hisdebut marathon and 3 rd placing, headingoff clubmate Ben Ruthe.Heidi Wrigley did it for the girls, runninga fantastic time, placing her 5 th F16-34and beating most of the <strong>Ramblers</strong> men.Lastly, we can’t forget Sid Pavett’s recordbreaking run in the 75-79 age group. Sidtook around 20minutes off the old recordand in doing so also beat all the 70-74graders home.There were 1913 starters in the fullmarathon run and 3211 overall in allevents. <strong>Ramblers</strong> placed 3 rd team.
