JOB DESCRIPTION___________________________________________________________________POST TITLE:BASE:<strong>Health</strong>care <strong>Assistant</strong>Windsor wardBAND: B<strong>and</strong> 2LINE MANAGER: Unit ManagerPROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY: Unit Manager___________________________________________________________________JOB SUMMARY:To support the qualified nursing staff in the delivery of nursing care either directly byassisting in care procedures or by helping with general unit organisation.RESPONSIBILITIES:• To work within a team supporting <strong>and</strong> assisting qualified nursing staff in theimplementation of patient care e.g. assist patient with personal hygiene, toileting,dressing, moving <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>ling, mobilising, making beds, serving meals <strong>and</strong>feeding patients.• Assist qualified staff with admission, transfer <strong>and</strong> discharge of patients.• To adhere to a patient’s individual rehabilitation plan as prescribed by qualifiedstaff <strong>and</strong> other multi-professional team members (e.g. physiotherapists,occupational therapist, speech <strong>and</strong> language therapist, dietician, doctor etc.)• To assist all disciplines involved in the rehabilitation of the patients on the wardwith initial assessments <strong>and</strong> ongoing rehabilitation plans.• To communicate in an appropriate manner <strong>and</strong> to assist in the reception ofpatients to the ward, helping to orientate them <strong>and</strong> their relatives.• To develop further skills as identified by the team leader / ward manager.• To participate in the supervision <strong>and</strong> induction of new <strong>and</strong> junior staff.• To participate on a system of reviewing his/her own performance.• To relay <strong>and</strong> record any messages/information regarding individual patients orother ward issues, whether taken in writing or verbally, to the nurse in charge.Page 1 of 4


• Checking <strong>and</strong> replenishing stores.• To assist in maintaining a safe environment: To request repairs <strong>and</strong> report faults in structure <strong>and</strong> equipment as necessaryto the nurse in charge. To assist in deployment of resources to meet the needs of the patientscondition, dependency <strong>and</strong> any special requirements. To advise the ward manager of any difficulties, deficiencies, incidents orcomplaints. To participate in ensuring the environment/ equipment is kept in a clean <strong>and</strong>tidy manner consistent with infection control guidelines. Follow all trust polices <strong>and</strong> procedures in relation to health <strong>and</strong> safety/infection control.• To ensure compliance with all hospital Trust regulatory policies <strong>and</strong>guidelines.• To undertake any other duties that may from time to time be reasonablyrequired by the ward manager/ Trust.GENERALThis post is one of continual development.
