Editors PrefaceThis booklet is a collecti<strong>on</strong> of Prophetic narrati<strong>on</strong>sabout <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān that are profound and deep in <strong>the</strong>irc<strong>on</strong>notati<strong>on</strong>s. The booklet has been entitled, ‘<str<strong>on</strong>g>40</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Hadith</str<strong>on</strong>g><strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān’ – although <strong>the</strong> number of narrati<strong>on</strong>sincluded in <strong>the</strong> book far exceed forty in number. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “Allah has His own peopleam<strong>on</strong>g mankind.” They said: “OMessenger of Allah, who are<strong>the</strong>y?” He said: “The people of<strong>the</strong> Qur’ān, <strong>the</strong> people of Allahand those who are closest toHim.’”حسن - 215 no. The Messenger of Allahsaid, “Whose Faith [Iman]am<strong>on</strong>gst <strong>the</strong> various creati<strong>on</strong>sastounds you?” They [<strong>the</strong> Compani<strong>on</strong>s]said, “The Angels” Hesaid, “The Angels - Why would<strong>the</strong>y not Faith [when <strong>the</strong>y arewith <strong>the</strong>ir Lord]” They [<strong>the</strong>n]said, “The Prophets” He said,“The Prophets recieve revelati<strong>on</strong>so how would <strong>the</strong>y not believe?”They [<strong>the</strong>n] said, “[Us]<strong>the</strong> Compani<strong>on</strong>s” He said, “TheCompani<strong>on</strong>s whom are with <strong>the</strong>Prophets - so how would <strong>the</strong>ynot believe? - However <strong>the</strong>Faith of people which is amazingand astounding is those whocome after you who find Books18أي ُّ الخَلْقِ‏ أَعْجَبُ‏ إيمانًا ؟ قالوا ::الملائكةُ‏ .يُؤْمِنُونَ‏ ؟قالقالواالملائكةُ‏ كَيْفَ‏ لا. قال النبي ُّونَ‏:النبي ُّونَ‏ يُوحَى إليهِمْ‏ فكيفَ‏ لا.:!!:يُؤْمِنُونَ‏ ؟قالالص َّحابَةُ‏ قالواالص َّحابَةُ‏ مع الأنبياءِ‏ فكي ‏َف!:لا يُؤْمِنُونَ‏ ؟الناسِ‏ إيمانًاولَكِن َّ أَعْجَبَ‏قومٌ‏ يجَِيئُونَ‏ منبَعْدِكُمْ‏ فَيَجِ‏ دُونَ‏ كتابًا مِنَ‏ الوَحْيِ‏؛ فَيُؤْمِنُونَ‏ بهِ‏ ويَت َّبِعُونَهُ‏ ، فَهُمْ‏:

The Messenger of Allahsent Mu’adh to Yemen, so Hesaid: “How will you judge?” Hesaid: “I will judge according towhat is in Allah’s Book.” Hesaid, “If it is not in Allah’sBook?” He said: “Then with <strong>the</strong>Sunnah of <strong>the</strong> Messenger of Allah“ He said: “If it is not in<strong>the</strong> Sunnah of Messenger of Allah?” He said: “I will endeveourto make Ijtihad [exert effortto make <strong>the</strong> correct judgement].”He said: “All praise isdue to Allah, <strong>the</strong> One Who19أَن َّ رَسُولَ‏ الل َّهِ‏ صلى االله عليهوسلم بَعَثَ‏ مُعَاذًا إِلىَ‏ الْيَمَنِ‏ فَقَالَ‏‏“كَيْفَ‏ تَقْضِي “ .بمَِا فيِ‏ كِتَابِ‏ الل َّهِ‏قَالَ‏فَقَالَ‏ أَقْضِي“ فَإِنْ‏ لمَْ‏. “.يَكُنْ‏ فيِ‏ كِتَابِ‏ الل َّهِ‏قَالَ‏فَبِسُن َّةِ‏ رَسُولِ‏ الل َّهِ‏ صلى االله عليه“قَالَ‏ وسلم .فَإِنْ‏ لمَْ‏ يَكُنْ‏ فيِ‏سُن َّةِ‏ رَسُولِ‏ الل َّهِ‏ صلى االله عليه

They do not cheat inweights and measures but <strong>the</strong>ywill be stricken with famine, severecalamity and <strong>the</strong> oppressi<strong>on</strong>of <strong>the</strong>ir rulers. They do notwithhold <strong>the</strong> Zakah of <strong>the</strong>irwealth, but rain will be withheld20يَا مَعْشَرَ‏ الْمُهَاجِ‏ رِينَ‏ خمَْسٌ‏ إِذَاتُدْرِكُوهُن َّ لمَْ‏ تَظْهَرِ‏ الْفَاحِ‏ شَةُ‏ فيِ‏فِيهِمُ‏ الط َّاعُونُ‏ وَالأَوْجَاعُ‏ ال َّتيِ‏ لمَْ‏تَكُنْ‏ مَضَتْ‏ فيِ‏ أَسْلاَفِهِمُ‏ ال َّذِي ‏َنمَضَوْا .وَلمَْ‏ يَنْقُصُوا الْمِكْيَالَ‏وَالْمِيزَانَ‏ إِلا َّ أُخِ‏ ذُوا بِالس ِّنِينَ‏ وَشِ‏ د َّةِ‏الْمَؤُنَةِ‏ وَجَوْرِ‏ الس ُّلْطَانِ‏ عَلَيْهِمْ‏ .وَلمَْ‏يمَْنَعُوا زَكَاةَ‏ أَمْوَالهِِمْ‏ إِلا َّ مُنِعُوا الْقَطْرَ‏


from <strong>the</strong> sky, and were it not for<strong>the</strong> animals, no rain would fall<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong>m. They do not break<strong>the</strong>ir covenant with Allah andHis Messenger, but Allah willenable <strong>the</strong>ir enemies to overpower<strong>the</strong>m and take some ofwhat is in <strong>the</strong>ir hands. Chapter: Importance of Studying andTeaching <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān11. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “This Qur’ān is <strong>the</strong> Banquetof Allah. Learn as much asyou can from His banquet. ThisQur’ān is <strong>the</strong> Rope of Allah, andit is <strong>the</strong> clear Light and [<strong>the</strong> effectiveand beneficial] Healing.It is a protecti<strong>on</strong> for <strong>the</strong> <strong>on</strong>ewho clings to it and a rescue for<strong>the</strong> <strong>on</strong>e who follows it. It is notcrooked and so puts thingsstraight. It does not deviate soas to be blamed. It’s w<strong>on</strong>ders d<strong>on</strong>ot cease. It does not wear outwith much repetiti<strong>on</strong>. So reciteit for Allah will reward you for<strong>the</strong> recitati<strong>on</strong> of every letter....”[also Abdullah ibn Masud said,‘This Qur’ān is <strong>the</strong> Banquet ofAllah. Qurtubi in his introducti<strong>on</strong> to histafseer quotes an explainati<strong>on</strong> tothis hadeeth as, ‘[<strong>the</strong> Banquet] is ametaphor. The Qur’ān is likened tosomething Allah has prepared forpeople. They have good and benefitsin it. Then He has invited <strong>the</strong>mto it.’12. <strong>the</strong> sun. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “The parable of <strong>the</strong> believerwho recites <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān is thatof a sweet citrus fruit, its fragranceis nice and its taste isnice. The parable of <strong>the</strong> believerwho does not recite <strong>the</strong> Qur’ānis that of a date, it has no smellbut its taste is sweet. The parableof <strong>the</strong> hypocrite who recites<strong>the</strong> Qur’ān is that of basil, itsfragrance is nice but its taste isbitter. The parable of <strong>the</strong> hypocritewho does not recite <strong>the</strong>Qur’ān is that of <strong>the</strong> colocynth[bitter desert fruit], its smell isbetter and its taste is bitter.”صحيح - 2865 no. Bar’a said, “I heard <strong>the</strong>Prophet reciting Surat at-Tinwaz Zaitun [95: By <strong>the</strong> Fig and<strong>the</strong> Olive] in <strong>the</strong> Isha prayer andI have never heard anybodywith a better voice or recitati<strong>on</strong>than his.”Source: Bukhari no. 7546 - صحيح [Sahih]سمَِعْتُ‏ الن َّبيِ َّ صلى االله عليه وسلميَقْرَأُ‏ فيِ‏ الْعِشَاءِ‏ ‏{وَالت ِّينِ‏ وَالز َّيْتُونِ}‏فَمَا سمَِعْتُ‏ أَحَدًا أَحْسَنَ‏ صَوْتًا أَوْ‏قِرَاءَةً‏ مِنْهُ‏In describing <strong>the</strong> Prophet’s recitati<strong>on</strong>of <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān, <strong>on</strong>e of <strong>the</strong>compani<strong>on</strong>s said,“He[<strong>the</strong> Prophet] would extend hisvoice appropriately and clearly[every letter would be pr<strong>on</strong>ouncedproperly] – [Abu Dawud no. 1465 -[Sahih] صحيحThe Prophet Muhammadsaid, “Allah does not listen soattentively to anything as Helistens to <strong>the</strong> recitati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong>Qur’ān by a Prophet who recitesit well with a melodious andما أذِن االلهُ‏ لشيءٍ‏ كأَذنِه لن ٍّبيحسنِ‏ الصوتِ‏ يتغنى َّ بالقرآنِ‏ يجهرُ‏به39


audible voice.”صحيح – 793b Source: Muslim no.[Sahih]27. “One of <strong>the</strong> Compani<strong>on</strong>ssaid, “I saw <strong>the</strong> Messenger ofAllah and he was praying - hischest sounded like boiling waterdue to [him] crying.”صحيح - 753 no. Source: Ibn Hibban[Sahih]28. Abdullah ibn Masud said,“The Messenger of Allahasked me to recite <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān.”He said “Messenger of Allah,[how] should I recite to youwhereas it has been sent downto you? He [<strong>the</strong> Prophet] said,“I desire to hear it from some<strong>on</strong>eelse.” “So I recited Surat an-Nisa [4] till I reached <strong>the</strong> verse:“How <strong>the</strong>n shall it be when Weshall bring from every people awitness and bring you against<strong>the</strong>m as a witness?” [4:41]. I<str<strong>on</strong>g>40</str<strong>on</strong>g>رأَيْتُ‏ رسولَ‏ االلهِ‏ صل َّى االلهُ‏ عليهوسل َّم يُصل ِّي وفي صدرِه أزيزٌ‏ كأزيِزالمِرجَلِمِن البكاءِ‏قال لي رسولُ‏ االلهِ‏ صل َّى االلهُ‏ عليهِ‏”وسل َّمَ‏ ”فقلتُ‏اقرأْ‏ علي َّ القرآنَ‏يا رسولَ‏ االلهِ‏قالأقرأُ‏ عليك:”!”:، وعليك أُنْزِلَ‏ ؟ قالإنيأشتهي أن أسمعَه من غيريفقرأتُ‏ النساءَ‏ .حتى إذا بلغتُ‏فَكَيْفَ‏ إِذَا جِ‏ ئْنَا مِنْ‏ كُل ِّ أُم َّةٍ‏بِشَهِيدٍ‏ وَجِ‏ ئْنَا بِكَ‏ عَلَى هَؤُلاَ‏ ءِ‏

Some<strong>on</strong>e asked Aishah,Mo<strong>the</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> Believers, “Tellme about <strong>the</strong> character of <strong>the</strong>Messenger of Allah “ She said,“Do you not read <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān?”I said: “Yes.” Up<strong>on</strong> this shesaid: “The character of <strong>the</strong> Messengerof Allah was <strong>the</strong>Qur’ān.”He said: “I felt inclinedto get up and not ask anything[fur<strong>the</strong>r] till death [due to <strong>the</strong>answer being so profound]”Source: Muslim no. 746a, an-Nisa’i no.[Sahih] صحيح - 1601,فَقُلْتُ‏ يَا أُم َّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ‏ أَنْبِئِينيِ‏ عَنْ‏ خُلُقِ‏.رَسُولِ‏ الل َّهِ‏ صلى االله عليه وسلم .قَالَتْ‏ أَلَسْتَ‏ تَقْرَأُ‏ الْقُرْآنَ‏ قُلْتُ‏ بَلَىقَالَتْ‏ فَإِن َّ خُلُقَ‏ نَبيِ ِّ الل َّهِ‏ صلى االله-عليه وسلم كَانَ‏ الْقُرْآنَ‏ . -قَالَ‏فَهَمَمْتُ‏ أَنْ‏ أَقُومَ‏ وَلاَ‏ أَسْأَلَ‏ أَحَدًا عَنْ‏شَىْءٍ‏ حَتى َّ أَمُوتَ‏41


Chapter: Virtue of <strong>the</strong> Memorizers[hufadh] of <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān30. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “It shall be said to <strong>the</strong>Compani<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān, ‘Recite[of what you have memorized]and rise up, recite [melodiously]as you would recite in<strong>the</strong> world. For indeed your rankshall be at <strong>the</strong> last Ayah [verse]you recite.”حسن - 2914 no. Source: Tirmidhee[Hasan]The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “The <strong>on</strong>e who learns <strong>the</strong>Qur’ān is like <strong>the</strong> owner of ahobbled camel. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “It is a bad thing that someof you say, 'I have forgottensuch-and-such verse of <strong>the</strong>42يقالُ‏ لِصاحِ‏ بِ‏ القرآنِ‏ :اقرأْ‏ و ارْتَقِ‏، و رَت ِّلْ‏ كما كُنْتَ‏ تُرَت ِّلُ‏ في الدنيا، فإن َّ مَنْزِلَتَكَ‏ عندَ‏ آخِ‏ رِ‏ آيَةٍ‏ ]كُنْتَ‏ [إن َّ مَثَلَ‏ صاحبِ‏ القُرآنِ‏ مَثَلُ‏صاحبِ‏ الإبلِ‏ المُعق َّلةِ‏ إنْ‏ عاهَدعليها عقَلها وإنْ‏ أطلَقها ذهَبَتْ‏بِئْسَ‏ مَا لأَحَدِهِمْ‏ أَنْ‏ يَقُولَ‏ نَسِ‏ يتُ‏آيَةَ‏ كَيْتَ‏ وَكَيْتَ‏ بَلْ‏ نُس ِّيَ،‏وَاسْتَذْكِرُوا الْقُرْآنَ‏ فَإِن َّهُ‏ أَشَد ُّ تَفَص ِّيًا


Qur’ān,' for indeed, he has beencaused [by Allah] to forget it. Soyou must keep <strong>on</strong> reciting <strong>the</strong>Qur’ān because it escapes from<strong>the</strong> hearts of men faster thancamel do.”Source: Bukhari no. 5032 - صحيح [Sahih]Abdullah ibn Masood, <strong>the</strong>Compani<strong>on</strong> said, “It was difficultfor us to memorise <strong>the</strong>words of <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān but easyfor us to act by <strong>the</strong>m. After uswill be people for whom it iseasy to memorise <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān,but hard to act by it.”مِنْ‏ صُدُورِ‏ الر ِّجَالِ‏ مِنَ‏ الن َّعَمِ‏إنا صعب علينا حفظ ألفاظالقرآن وسهل علينا العمل به ،ومن بعدنا يسهل عليهم حفظالقرآن ويصعب عليهم العمل بهChapter: Not using Memorized Ayat in <strong>the</strong> Prayercauses forgetfulness32. Chapter: Holding <strong>on</strong> to <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān - Never go Astray33. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “...And I have left you twoheavy [important issues]: Thefirst of <strong>the</strong>m is <strong>the</strong> Book of Allah.In it is <strong>the</strong> Guidance and<strong>the</strong> Light. Whoever holds firmlyto it and takes from it he [<strong>the</strong>n]is up<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> Guidance. Whoevererrs with respect to it goes astray.So take from <strong>the</strong> Book ofAllah Almighty and hold firmlyto it. [<strong>the</strong> sec<strong>on</strong>d thing] is Ahl –Bayti [My Family – includedwives, children, s<strong>on</strong>-in law etc] Iremind you by Allah with regardto My Family, I remind you byAllah with regard to My Family.Source: Muslim, Ryadh as-Saliheenno. 346, – صحيح [Sahih]وأنَا تاركٌ‏ فيكمْ‏ ثَقَلَينِْ‏: أولهُماكتابُ‏ االلهِ‏ فيه الهدى والن ُّورُ،‏ منْ‏استمسكَ‏ بهِ‏ وأَخَذَ‏ بهِ‏ كانَ‏ علىالهُدى،‏ ومنْ‏ أخطأَهُ‏ ضَل َّ،‏ فخُذُوابكتابِ‏ االلهِ‏ تعالى،‏ واسْتَمْسِ‏ كُوا بِهِ؛وأهلُ‏ بيتيِ‏ ، أذك ِّرُكم االلهَ‏ في أهلِ‏بيتيِ‏ ، أذَك ِّرُكم االلهَ‏ في أهلِ‏ بيتيِ‏34. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “I leave behind for you,that by which if you stick firmlyto you will never go astray, <strong>the</strong>Book of Allah and <strong>the</strong> Sunnahإني ِّ قد ترَكْتُ‏ فيكم ما إنِ‏اعتصمتُمْ‏ بِهِ‏ فلن تضل ُّوا أبدًا كتابَ‏44


of His Prophet.”Source: Targhib wa Tarhib 1/61[Sahih] صحيحالل َّهِ‏ وسن َّةَ‏ نبي ِّهِ‏35. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “Indeed this Qur’ān is arope – <strong>on</strong>e end of it is in <strong>the</strong>Hand of Allah and <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rend is in your hands. So holdfirmly to it [<strong>the</strong> result would be]that you would never go astrayand never be destroyed [no matterwhat <strong>the</strong> circumstance].”Source: Ibn Hibban no. 122 -[Sahih]صحيح45إن َّ هذا القرآنَ‏ سببٌ‏ طرفُه بيدِ‏ االلهِ‏، و طرفُه بأيديكم ، فتمس َّكوا بهChapter: The role of <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān in times ofFitnah [tribulati<strong>on</strong>] and c<strong>on</strong>fusi<strong>on</strong>36. Ali said I heard <strong>the</strong> Messengerof Allah says, ‘Fitnah willcertainly come.’ I asked what is<strong>the</strong> way out O Messenger ofAllah? He replied,‘The Book of Allah [swt] is <strong>the</strong>way, for it c<strong>on</strong>tains informati<strong>on</strong>of what happened before you,news of what will come after:بعده أبدًاالمَخْرَجُ‏ منها يا رسولَ‏ االلهِ‏ ؟ قالما:كتابُ‏ االلهِ‏ فيه نَبَأُ‏ ما قَبْلَكم ،وخَبَرُ‏ ما بعدَكم ، وحُكْمُ‏ مابينكم ، وهو الفَصْلُ‏ ليس بالهَزْلِ‏


you and a decisi<strong>on</strong> regardingmatters that will occur am<strong>on</strong>gyou....It is deciscive [fasl] andnot a joke [hazl]. Whoeverleaves leaves it, is a tyrant andAllah [swt] will break him, and ifany<strong>on</strong>e seeks guidance elsewhere[o<strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān]Allah will lead him astray. It is<strong>the</strong> rope of Allah [swt], <strong>the</strong> wisereminder, <strong>the</strong> straight path,whims would not deviate it nor<strong>the</strong> t<strong>on</strong>gue become c<strong>on</strong>fused,and <strong>the</strong> scholars cannot be fullysatisfied [i.e. still more to explore].It is not worn down byrepetiti<strong>on</strong> nor do its w<strong>on</strong>dersever cease……He who quotes itspeaks <strong>the</strong> truth, he who actsaccording to it is rewarded, hewho judges according to it isjust, and he who invites peopleto it [i.e. <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān] is [himself]guided to <strong>the</strong> Straight Path….’ضعيف 2906, no. Source: Tirmidhee[Da’eef - <strong>the</strong> chain is – ] إسناده مجهول]‏weak but <strong>the</strong> meaning is Saheeh –46مَن تركه من جَب َّارٍ‏ قَصَمَهُ‏ االلهُ‏ ،ومَن ابْتَغَى الهُدَى في غيرِه أَضَل َّهُ‏االلهُ‏ ، وهو حَبْلُ‏ االلهِ‏ المَتِينُ‏ ، وهوالذ ِّكْرُ‏ الحكيمُ‏ ، وهو الصراطُ‏المستقيمُ‏ .هو الذي لا تَزِيغُ‏ بهالأهواءُ‏ ، ولا تَلْتَبِسُ‏ به الأَْلْسِ‏ نَةُ‏ ،ولا يَشْبَعُ‏ منه العلماءُ‏ ، ولا يخَْلَقُ‏عن كَثْرَةِ‏ الر َّد ِّ ، ولا تَنْقَضِيعجائبُه .إذ سمَِعَتْه حتى قالواهو الذي لم تَنْتَهِ‏ الجِ‏ ُّن: إِن َّا سمَِعْنَاقُرْآنًا عَجَبًا يَهْدِي إِلىَ‏ الر ُّشْدِ‏ فَآمَن َّابِهِ‏ .مَن قال به صدق ، ومَنعَمِلَ‏ به أُجِ‏ رَ‏ ، ومَن حكم بهعدل ، ومَن دعا إليه هُدِيَ‏ إلى


scholars comment that this is morelikely <strong>the</strong> statement of Ali and not<strong>the</strong> Prophet]صراطٍ‏ مستقيمٍ‏Chapter: A Time will come when People will loose <strong>the</strong>Understanding of <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān37. On <strong>the</strong> authority of Ziyadibn Lubayd <strong>the</strong> Prophet said,‘….and knowledge will go [ordisappear].’ He said, ‘O Messengerof Allah how will knowledgeleave [disappear] whilst we read<strong>the</strong> Qur’ān and our childrenread <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān and <strong>the</strong>y willmake <strong>the</strong>ir children read it till<strong>the</strong> Day of Judgement.’ Hesaid, ‘May your Mo<strong>the</strong>r looseyou I thought your <strong>on</strong>e of <strong>the</strong>men of understanding of Madinah.D<strong>on</strong>’t you see <strong>the</strong>se Jewsand Christians reading <strong>the</strong>ir Torahand Gospel but <strong>the</strong>y d<strong>on</strong>’tpractice anything of it.’صحيح - <str<strong>on</strong>g>40</str<strong>on</strong>g>48 no. Source: Ibn Majah[Sahih]وعن زياد بن لبيد قال ذكر النبي” ::صلى االله عليه و سلم شيئا فقالذاك عند أوان ذهاب العلم ”قلتيا رسول االله وكيف يذهب العلمونحن نقرأ القرآن ونقرئه أبناءنا ويقرؤهأبناؤنا أبناءهم إلى يوم القيامة قال :ثكلتك أمك زياد إن كنت لأراكمن أفقه رجل بالمدينة أوليس هذه”اليهود والنصارى يقرءون التوراةوالإنجيل لا يعملون بشيء مما فيهما47


38. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “There will come a time <strong>on</strong><strong>the</strong> people when <strong>the</strong>re will remainnothing of <strong>the</strong> Islam exceptits [ism] name and nothingwill remain of <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān exceptits [rasm] outward form. Theirmasjids will be full ofpeople/very well built but willbe empty of guidance. Theirscholars will be <strong>the</strong> most evilunder <strong>the</strong> heavens; from <strong>the</strong>m[fitnah] turmoil will emanatefrom <strong>the</strong>m and to <strong>the</strong>m will itreturn.”Source: Baihaqi, Shu’bul Iman no.2/788Narrated Abdullah, that heheard a man reciting a Qur’ānicVerse which he had heard <strong>the</strong>Prophet reciting in a differentway. So he took that man to <strong>the</strong>Prophet [and told him <strong>the</strong>story]. The Prophet said, “Bothof you are reciting in a correctway, so carry <strong>on</strong> reciting.” Theيوشك أن يأتي على الناس زمان لايبقى من الإسلام إلا اسمه ولايبقى من القرآن إلا رسمهمساجدهم عامرة وهي خراب منالهدى علماؤهم شر من تحت أديمالسماء من عندهم تخرج الفتنةوفيهم تعودعَنْ‏ عَبْدِ‏ الل َّهِ،‏ أَن َّهُ‏ سمَِعَ‏ رَجُلاً،‏ يَقْرَأُ‏آيَةً،‏ سمَِعَ‏ الن َّبيِ َّ صلى االله عليهوسلم خِ‏ لاَفَهَا،‏ فَأَخَذْتُ‏ بِيَدِهِ‏فَانْطَلَقْتُ‏ بِهِ‏ إِلىَ‏ الن َّبيِ ِّ صلى االلهعليه وسلم فَقَالَ‏ كِلاَكُمَا محُْسِ‏ ‏ٌن48


Prophet fur<strong>the</strong>r added, “Thenati<strong>on</strong>s which were before youwere destroyed [by Allah] because<strong>the</strong>y differed.”Source: Bukhari no. 5062 - صحيح [Sahih]39. The Prophet Muhammadsaid, “When you adorn [decorate]your Masajid and ornamentyour Qur’ān, <strong>the</strong>n you will perish.”حسن - 658 no. An Amazing Prophetic Dua about <strong>the</strong> Qur’ānO Allah make my heart flourish with <strong>the</strong> Qur’ānاللّهُم َّ إِني ِّ عَبْدُكَ‏ ابْنُ‏ عَبْدِكَ‏ ابْنُ‏ أَمَتِكَ‏ نَاصِيَتيِ‏ بِيَدِكَ‏ ، مَاضٍ‏فيِ‏ َّ حُكْمُكَ‏ ، عَدْلٌ‏ فيِ‏ َّ قَضَاؤكَ‏ أَسْأَلُكَ‏ بِكُل ِّ اسْمٍ‏ هُوَ‏ لَكَ‏سمَ َّيْتَ‏ بِهِ‏ نَفْسَكَ‏ أِوْ‏ أَنْزَلْتَهُ‏ فيِ‏ كِتَابِكَ‏ ، أَوْ‏عَل َّمْتَهُ‏ أَحَداً‏ مِ‏ ‏ْنخَلْقِكَ‏ أَوِ‏ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ‏ بِهِ‏ فيِ‏ عِلْمِ‏ الغَيْبِ‏ عِنْدَكَ‏ أَنْ‏ تجَْعَلَ‏القُرْآنَ‏ رَبِيعَ‏ قَلْبِي،‏ وَنورَ‏ صَدْرِي وجَلاَ‏ ءَ‏ حُزْنيِ‏ وذَهَابَ‏ همَ ِّي“O Allah, I am Your servant, s<strong>on</strong> of Your servant, s<strong>on</strong>of Your maidservant, my forelock is in Your hand, Yourcommand over me is forever executed and Your decreeover me is just. I ask You by every name bel<strong>on</strong>ging toYou which You named Yourself with, or revealed inYour Book, or You taught to any of Your creati<strong>on</strong>, orYou have preserved in <strong>the</strong> knowledge of <strong>the</strong> unseen withYou, that You make <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān <strong>the</strong> spring of my heart[i.e. make my heart flourish with <strong>the</strong> Qur’ān] and <strong>the</strong>light of my chest, and a departure for my sorrow and arelease for my anxiety.”Source: Musnad Ahmad no. 6/153, IbnHibban no. 972 - صحيح [Sahih]51


Dua’s from <strong>the</strong> Qur’ānرَب َّنَا تَقَب َّلْ‏ مِن َّا إِن َّكَ‏ أَنْتَ‏ الس َّمِيعُ‏ الْعَلِيمُ‏“Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are <strong>the</strong>Hearing, <strong>the</strong> Knowing.” [2:127]رَب َّنَا آتِنَا فِي الد ُّنْيَا حَسَ‏ نَةً‏ وَفِي الآْ‏ خِ‏ رَةِ‏ حَسَنَةً‏ وَقِنَا عَذَابَ‏ الن َّاِر“Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in<strong>the</strong> Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from <strong>the</strong>punishment of <strong>the</strong> Fire.” [2:201]رَب َّنَا أَفْرِغْ‏ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَب ِّتْ‏أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ‏ الْكَافِرِي ‏َن“Our Lord, pour up<strong>on</strong> us patience and plant firmly our feetand give us victory over <strong>the</strong> disbelieving people.” [2:250]رَب َّنَا لاَ‏ تُؤَاخِ‏ ذْنَا إِنْ‏ نَسِ‏ ينَا أَوْ‏ أَخْطَأْنَا رَب َّنَا وَلاَ‏ تَحْمِلْ‏ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَاحَمَلْتَهُ‏ عَلَى ال َّذِينَ‏ مِنْ‏ قَبْلِنَا رَب َّنَا وَلاَ‏ تُحَم ِّلْنَا مَا لاَ‏ طَاقَةَ‏ لَنَا بِهِ‏ وَاعْفُ‏عَن َّا وَاغْفِرْ‏ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنْتَ‏ مَوْلاَ‏ نَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ‏ الْكَافِرِينَ‏“Our Lord, do not impose blame up<strong>on</strong> us if we have forgottenor erred. Our Lord, and lay not up<strong>on</strong> us a burden like thatwhich You laid up<strong>on</strong> those before us. Our Lord, and burdenus not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pard<strong>on</strong>us; and forgive us; and have mercy up<strong>on</strong> us. You are our protector,so give us victory over <strong>the</strong> disbelieving people.” [2:286]53


رَب َّنَا لاَ‏ تُزِغْ‏ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ‏ إِذْ‏ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ‏ لَنَا مِنْ‏ لَدُنْكَ‏ رَحْمَةً‏إِن َّكَ‏ أَنْتَ‏ الْوَه َّابُ‏“Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guidedus and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are <strong>the</strong>Bestower.” [3:8]رَب َّنَا إِن َّنَا آمَن َّا فَاغْفِرْ‏ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ‏ الن َّارِ‏“Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sinsand protect us from <strong>the</strong> punishment of <strong>the</strong> Fire,” [3:16]رَب َّنَا آمَن َّا بِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ‏ وَات َّبَعْنَا الر َّسُولَ‏ فَاكْتُبْنَا مَعَ‏ الش َّاهِدِينَ‏“Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and havefollowed <strong>the</strong> messenger so register us am<strong>on</strong>g <strong>the</strong> witnesses [totruth].” [3:53]54رَب َّنَا اغْفِرْ‏لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَإِسْرَافَنَا فِي أَمْرِنَا وَثَب ِّتْ‏ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَىالْقَوْمِ‏ الْكَافِرِينَ‏“Our Lord, forgive us our sins and <strong>the</strong> excess [committed] inour affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over<strong>the</strong> disbelieving people.” [3:147]رَب َّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ‏ هَذَا بَاطِلاً‏ سُبْحَانَكَ‏ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ‏ الن َّارِ‏“Our Lord, You did not create this [heavens and earth] aimlessly;exalted are You [above such a thing]; <strong>the</strong>n protect usfrom <strong>the</strong> punishment of <strong>the</strong> Fire.” [3:191]


رَب َّنَا إِن َّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي لِلإِْيمَانِ‏ أَنْ‏ آمِنُوا بِرَب ِّكُمْ‏ فَآمَن َّا رَب َّنَا فَاغْفِْرلَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَف ِّرْ‏ عَن َّا سَي ِّئَاتِنَا وَتَوَف َّنَا مَعَ‏ الأَْبْرَارِ‏“Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying],‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord,so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds andcause us to die with <strong>the</strong> righteous.” [3:193]رَب َّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْ‏ هَذِهِ‏ الْقَرْيَةِ‏ الظ َّالِمِ‏ أَهْلُهَا وَاجْعَل لَنَا مِنْ‏ لَدُنْكَ‏وَاجْعَل لَنَا مِنْ‏ لَدُنْكَ‏ نَصِيرًا“Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people andappoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for usfrom Yourself a helper?” [4:75]رَب َّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِنْ‏ لَمْ‏ تَغْفِرْ‏ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَن َّ مِنْ‏ الْخَاسِ‏ رِي ‏َن“Our Lord, we have wr<strong>on</strong>ged ourselves, and if You do notforgive us and have mercy up<strong>on</strong> us, we will surely be am<strong>on</strong>g<strong>the</strong> losers.” [7:23]رَب َّنَا أَفْرِغْ‏ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَب ِّتْ‏ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ‏ الْكَافِرِي ‏َن“Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are <strong>the</strong>Hearing, <strong>the</strong> Knowing.” [2:127]رَب َّنَا لاَ‏ تَجْعَلْنَا مَعَ‏ الْقَوْمِ‏ الظ َّالِمِينَ‏“Our Lord, do not place us with <strong>the</strong> wr<strong>on</strong>gdoing people.”[7:47]55


رَب َّنَا افْتَحْ‏ بَ‏ يْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ‏ قَوْمِنَا بِالْحَق ِّ وَأَنْتَ‏ خَيْرُ‏ الْفَاتِحِ‏ ي ‏َن“Our Lord, decide between us and our people in truth, andYou are <strong>the</strong> best of those who give decisi<strong>on</strong>” [7:89]رَب ِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ‏ الص َّلاَ‏ ةِ‏ وَمِنْ‏ ذُر ِّي َّتِي رَب َّنَا وَتَقَب َّلْ‏ دُعَاِء“My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] frommy descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplicati<strong>on</strong>.”[14:<str<strong>on</strong>g>40</str<strong>on</strong>g>]رَب َّنَا اغْفِرْ‏ لِي وَلِوَالِدَي َّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ‏ يَوْمَ‏ يَقُومُ‏ الْحِ‏ سَابُ‏“Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and <strong>the</strong> believers <strong>the</strong>Day <strong>the</strong> account is established.” [14:41]رَب َّنَا آتِنَا مِنْ‏ لَدُنْكَ‏ رَحْمَةً‏ وَهَي ِّئْ‏ لَنَا مِنْ‏ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا“Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for usfrom our affair right guidance.” [18:10]رَب َّنَا اصْرِفْ‏ ا عَن َّ عَذَابَ‏ جَهَن َّمَ‏ إِن َّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ‏ غَرَامًا“Our Lord, avert from us <strong>the</strong> punishment of Hell. Indeed, itspunishment is ever adhering.” [25:65]رَب َّنَا هَبْ‏ لَنَا مِنْ‏ أَزْوَاجِ‏ نَا وَذُر ِّي َّاتِنَا قُر َّةَ‏ أَعْيُنٍ‏ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُت َّقِينَ‏ إِمَامًا“Our Lord, grant us from am<strong>on</strong>g our wives and offspringcomfort to our eyes and make us an example for <strong>the</strong> righteous.”[25:74]56


رَب َّنَا وَسِ‏ عْتَ‏ كُل َّ شَيْءٍ‏ رَحْمَةً‏ وَعِلْمًا فَاغْفِرْ‏ لِل َّذِينَ‏ تَابُوا وَات َّبَعُوا سَبِيلَكَ‏وَقِهِمْ‏ عَذَابَ‏ الْجَحِ‏ يِم“Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy andknowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followedYour way and protect <strong>the</strong>m from <strong>the</strong> punishment of Hellfire.”[<str<strong>on</strong>g>40</str<strong>on</strong>g>:7]رَب َّنَا وَأَدْخِ‏ لْهُمْ‏ جَن َّاتِ‏ عَدْنٍ‏ ال َّتِي وَعَدْتَهُم وَمَنْ‏صَلَحَ‏ مِنْ‏ آبَائِهِ‏ ‏ْموَأَزْوَاجِ‏ هِمْ‏ وَذُر ِّي َّاتِهِمْ‏ إِن َّكَ‏ أَنْتَ‏ الْعَزِيزُ‏ الْحَكِيمُ‏ وَقِهِمْ‏ الس َّي ِّئَاتِ‏ وَمَنْ‏ تَقِيالس َّي ِّئَاتِ‏ يَوْمَئِذٍ‏ فَقَدْ‏ رَحِ‏ مْتَهُ‏ وَذَلِكَ‏ هُوَ‏ الْفَوْزُ‏ الْعَظِيمُ‏“Our Lord, and admit <strong>the</strong>m to gardens of perpetual residencewhich You have promised <strong>the</strong>m and whoever was righteousam<strong>on</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir fa<strong>the</strong>rs, <strong>the</strong>ir spouses and <strong>the</strong>ir offspring. Indeed,it is You who is <strong>the</strong> Exalted in Might, <strong>the</strong> Wise.And protect<strong>the</strong>m from <strong>the</strong> evil c<strong>on</strong>sequences [of <strong>the</strong>ir deeds]. And hewhom You protect from evil c<strong>on</strong>sequences that Day - Youwill have given him mercy. And that is <strong>the</strong> great attainment.”[<str<strong>on</strong>g>40</str<strong>on</strong>g>:8-9]لِل َّذِينَ‏ آمَنُوا رَب َّنَا إِن َّكَ‏ رَءُوفٌ‏ رَحِ‏ ي ‏ٌم“Our Lord, forgive us and our bro<strong>the</strong>rs who preceded us infaith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward thosewho have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind andMerciful.” [59:10]57


رَب َّنَا عَلَيْكَ‏ تَوَك َّلْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ‏ أَنَبْنَا وَإِلَيْكَ‏ الْمَصِيُر“Our Lord, up<strong>on</strong> You we have relied, and to You we havereturned, and to You is <strong>the</strong> destinati<strong>on</strong>.”[60:4]رَب ِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ‏ أَشْكُرَ‏ نِعْمَتَكَ‏ ال َّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ‏ عَلَي َّ وَعَلَى وَالِدَي َّ وَأَنْ‏ أَعْمَلَ‏صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ‏ وَأَصْلِحْ‏ لِي فِي ذُر ِّي َّتِي إِن ِّي تُبْتُ‏ إِلَيْكَ‏ وَإِن ِّي مِنْ‏ الْمُسْلِمِي ‏َن“My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor whichYou have bestowed up<strong>on</strong> me and up<strong>on</strong> my parents and towork righteousness of which You will approve and makerighteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented toYou, and indeed, I am of <strong>the</strong> Muslims.” [46:15]رَب ِّ أَعُوذُ‏ بِكَ‏ مِنْ‏ هَمَزَاتِ‏ الش َّيَاطِينِ‏ وَأَعُوذُ‏ بِكَ‏ رَب ِّ أَنْ‏ يَحْضُرُونِ‏“My Lord, I seek refuge in You from <strong>the</strong> incitements of <strong>the</strong>devils. And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest <strong>the</strong>y be presentwith me.” [23:97-98]ر َّب ِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَب َّيَانِي صَغِيرًا“My Lord, have mercy up<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong>m [my parents] as <strong>the</strong>ybrought me up [when I was] small.” [17:24]رَب ِّ اغْفِرْ‏ وَارْحَمْ‏ وَأَنْتَ‏ خَيْرُ‏ الر َّاحِ‏ مِي ‏َن“My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are <strong>the</strong>best of <strong>the</strong> merciful.” [23:118]رَب ِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا“My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” [20:114]58
