This exciting opportunity reflects the growth <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Journal</strong> and acommitment to further develop and enhance the impact <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Journal</strong>. The journal is the <strong>of</strong>ficial journal <strong>of</strong>the Association <strong>of</strong> British Paediatric Nurses (ABPN). It also works in partnership with the CCNI in Australia.The <strong>Editor</strong> (<strong>East</strong> <strong>Asia</strong>) will work closely with the <strong>Editor</strong>-in-Chief and <strong>Editor</strong>s (UK, USA, Australasia) withparticular responsibility for enhancing the pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Journal</strong> in the <strong>East</strong> <strong>Asia</strong>, working innovatively tosustain and enhance the global standing <strong>of</strong> the journal (e.g., impact factor), managing manuscripts andcontributing to decision making, liaising with contributors, reviewers and other members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Editor</strong>ialBoard team, promoting the work <strong>of</strong> the journal and supporting its development in other ways.Applications are sought from pr<strong>of</strong>essionally qualified individuals (e.g. children’s nurses, paediatricians,researchers, educationalists, psychologists, sociologists) who are working in the field <strong>of</strong> children’s healthcare and who wish to contribute to the work <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Journal</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Health</strong> <strong>Care</strong>.There are number <strong>of</strong> benefits <strong>of</strong> undertaking such a role. These include the experience <strong>of</strong> working within aninternational team <strong>of</strong> editors and engaging with authors and ideas from all over the world. Other benefitsinclude developing an insider perspective on publishing and enhancing reviewing, decision-making,communication and organisational skills. The work also helps to raise the pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> the individual andpositions them as an international player within child health care. Job Description: Roles and responsibilities: <strong>Editor</strong> (<strong>East</strong> <strong>Asia</strong>)IntroductionThe <strong>Editor</strong> (<strong>East</strong> <strong>Asia</strong>) shall report directly to the <strong>Editor</strong>-in-Chief and indirectly to the Publisher and to theAssociation <strong>of</strong> British Paediatric Nurses (ABPN). The role and responsibilities <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Editor</strong> (<strong>East</strong> <strong>Asia</strong>) coverfour broad areas:• Manuscript management and editing• Strategic management and innovation• Enhancing the pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Journal</strong> with a special focus on the <strong>East</strong> <strong>Asia</strong>• Marketing and promoting the work <strong>of</strong> the journalThe workload/time commitment involved is difficult to predict but it is likely to be around 3 hours perweek. The journal uses <strong>Sage</strong>Track as its manuscript submission system. Training in the use <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sage</strong>Track willbe provided to the successful candidate.Manuscript management: editingThe roles and responsibilities will be to manage a ‘caseload <strong>of</strong> papers’ in an editorial capacity undertakingthe following responsibilities:1. provide editorial management <strong>of</strong> each manuscript assigned to you ensuring that it is managed in afair and equitable manner and ensuring due diligence in respect <strong>of</strong> your decision-making andfeedback to contributors2. provide constructive feedback to the authors with due consideration <strong>of</strong> the reviewers commentsand recommendations and to provide encouragement, where appropriate, to authors to resubmit.3. work collegiately with authors to provide them with a supportive environment whilst they arewithin the ‘system’4. work collegiately and supportively with reviewers providing feedback, as appropriate, andfacilitating their involvement with the journal5. synthesise recommendations from reviewers and propose recommendations for papers within thereview process in relation to whether they should be rejected, revised (minor/major) or consideredfor acceptance.Strategic ManagementThe roles and responsibilities will be to:1. contribute via meetings and dialogue (face-to-face, as appropriate or through electronic mediasuch as Skype, Adobe Connect, email etc.) to the strategic development <strong>of</strong> the journal2. adopt a reflective stance and provide advice to the <strong>Editor</strong>-in-Chief, the Publisher, Core <strong>Editor</strong>ialBoard, the ABPN and CCNI on editorial issues and other strategic and marketing points3. attend or otherwise contribute to <strong>Editor</strong>ial Board meetings4. consider ways <strong>of</strong> further enhancing the internationality and multidisciplinary <strong>of</strong> the journal andhow these could be implemented.5. identify ways <strong>of</strong> enhancing the impact factor <strong>of</strong> the journal.Final version: 16 th June 20132 | P age
