12. PrayerFROM the Gospel of Matthew to the Book of Revelation,the New Testament is filled with references to prayer asthe best weapon for the spiritual fight. One of thedeepest of these is found in Ephesians 6:Find your strength in the Lord, in his mighty power. Put on allthe armor which God provides, so that you may be able to standfirm against the devices of the devil. For our fight is not againsthuman foes, but against cosmic powers, against the authoritiesand potentates of this dark world, against the superhumanforces of evil in the heavens. Therefore, take up God’s armor;then you will be able to stand your ground when things are attheir worst, to complete every task and still to stand. Stand firm,I say. Fasten on the belt of truth; for coat of mail put onintegrity; let the shoes on your feet be the gospel of peace, togive you firm footing; and, with all these, take up the greatshield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all theflaming arrows of the evil one. Take salvation for helmet; forsword, take that which the Spirit gives you – the words thatcome from God.
