The round, smooth fingers are used so that the forage is not damaged the way itsometimes is with sharp-edged tools.ABReversible combThe reversible comp has two sides:A one (rounded) for conditioningdelicate cropsB the other for gramineous crops, itis reversible in just a few seconds.Conditioning adjustment- The conditioning intensity changes withthe degree of overlap between combteeth and rotor fingers. Conditioning isincreased or reduced by means of alever. Comb in raised position: littleconditioning effect.- Rotor speed adjusted by inverting thepulleys: 1000 min -1 for intensive conditioningand 810 min -1 for lighter conditioning.SafetyShould a foreign object enter the machine,the spring loaded comb swings backand is automatically repositioned.Four stages of conditioningThe base of the crop stementers the machine first, allowingrotor fingers to makeinitial contact with the crop’sthickest part (longest to dry).The natural wax coating onboth stem and leaf is brokendown due to friction of plantagainst shield.As crop flows between thecomb teeth, the natural waxcoating is opened along thelength of the stem, allowingmaximum moisture content toevaporate.With the comb completely raised,there is little conditioningeffect.
