Find the answers to your trickyFood Labelling questionsDo you ever find it frustrating when you have a query about aspecific food labelling issue but have no-one to discuss it with?Come along to this NZIFST hosted Professional Development seminar and discuss your questions.Wednesday 17 th September, 4.00pm – 6.00pmPromenade Room, Waipuna Hotel & Conference Centre58 Waipuna Road, Mt Wellington, AucklandWHO SHOULD ATTEND?This seminar is designed for people involved in creating labels for food products for the New Zealand marketand who already have some knowledge of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?This seminar will involve discussions about how to interpret the code to deal with specific, high level issues.Examples of these issues could be;1) When can Ascorbic Acid be labelled as Vitamin C rather than Acid or Antioxidant?2) Can Dried Fruit be labelled as just Fruit if it absorbs enough water from the other ingredients?3) What is the difference between Chocolate and Compound Chocolate?4) Why is Maltitol Syrup declared as an ingredient when present at high levels and not as an additivei.e., It’s listed as “Maltitol Syrup” in the ingredient listing rather than “Sweetener (maltitol syrup) orSweetener (965)?The facilitators (McFoodies Ltd) will lead the discussion with attendees contributing as much as they wish to.Attendees are invited to submit questions before the seminar and these will be made anonymous so individualcompanies are not identified when the product is discussed.McFoodies Ltd is a group of food technologists who consult to the food manufacturing industry on a range of subjectsincluding Food Labelling. Cathy Merrall and Claudia Bettesworth have been with McFoodies for 7 & 2.5 years,respectively. Over this time they have prepared label reports for a wide range of clients and product types.
