during those tough times. “There was no sense of‘I’ve always done it this way, so I’m not changing,’”she explains. “You had to do what you had to do.”And so, step by step, Kristen built her business, gaining the trust and loyalty of her clients who sawfirsthand her dedication to getting the job done.referral business, and her dedication to her professionhas resulted in an impressive production volume. In2006 she was awarded the prestigious Prudential LegendAward, an honor reserved for agents who have receivedthe Chairman’s Circle Award at least five times duringtheir affiliation with the Prudential Real Estate Network.Today, thanks to her initial trials, Kristen is wellpreparedto meet the latest challenges her industrypresents. She acknowledges that the telltale signsof change in the real estate market were evidentbefore this latest down cycle. “Things happenedin our last booming market that just didn’t makesense,” she notes. “It seemed surreal at the time, and the lure of easy sales attracted a lot of newagents into the business.” Her early experiencehas proved an ideal foundation for Kristen’sability to adapt to today’s volatile environment.“I thrive in the type of market that we’re in now,”she states. “I get excited about the opportunityto prepare a home for sale, and I’ve got a terrificmarketing system and a great team of professionalswho help bring all the pieces together.”Her team includes full-time administrativeassistant Jean Urene, who coordinates andhandles all paperwork, disclosures anddocuments. Buyer’s agent Jeannie Hawkingis particularly adept at working with clientsto determine their unique wants and needs, finding them the dream home they desire andassisting them in securing the appropriatefinancial package to make their dream a reality. In keeping with the evolving needs of her businessand her clientele, Kristen has expanded the teamto include her daughter, Brittney Fowler, whoafter graduating college asked to join her mother’sbusiness. “I was surprised,” laughs Kristen, whoadmits, “I initially tried to discourage her fromgetting into the field.” Undeterred, Brittneysecured a spot on the team, where she has learnedthe business from the ground-up. Currentlyhead of the group’s marketing department, sheis also working as a successful buyer’s agent. With her team’s support, Kristen is able tofocus on her specialty: representing the sale andpurchase of residential homes within Yorba Lindaand northern Orange County. However, if youtake each one as it comes, thenyou’re better equipped to getthrough the race. In the end, you’ll cross that final hurdle.”Dillon Fowler, Brittney Fowler and Kristen at the site of their home rebuild, with builders Mike and Patti Hines of Tecnicad Inc.When unexpected challengesarise, Kristen’s take-it-all-instrideattitude is an invaluableelement. She knows firsthandthe importance of having a home- and the anguish associatedwith losing one. Her own YorbaLinda home was decimatedin the city’s devastatingNovember 2008 fire. Painfulreminders were everywherewhen, she notes, footage ofher property was used by manymedia outlets who coveredthe destruction. Still, she hasIn 2008 she was ranked the #1Yorba Linda agent in total salesby volume, and to date she is ontrack to repeat that achievement. What drives Kristen, though,is something significantlydeeper than numbers - it’s herability to make a differencein the lives of her clients.“I stay focused on understandingand meeting my customers’ needs,”Kristen states. “Communicationis vital, and I work to ensurethat sellers understand theprocess of preparing a home forsale, marketing and pricing itaccordingly. Oftentimes peoplebecome disillusioned by what’sahead of them, but I work withthem throughout the process, taking each step as it comes.”Referring to a popular analogy,Kristen likens the process torunning a hurdle race. “If you putall of your focus on the last hurdleKristen’s home was decimated in the city’sdevastating November 2008 fireEx e c u t i veAg e n t Magazine
