Œ A Parent’s Testimony”A Tremendous Pillar of Support”A mother reflects on the impact OC has had on her family.by Sarah CrespoSeven years ago, we moved to Corona and consequently moved our children to Ontario Christian School. We’d heardof OC from friends we’d met at another Christian school in Chino Hills. Quite honestly, we didn’t know then how toevaluate a school based on its curriculum or extra-curricular activities. OC was a much simpler choice for us then. Itwas one of the biggest Christian schools in the area and one of the few that had a high school. To us, that translated todiversity in experiences and relationships and continuity for our children which were important to us. Currently, all fourof our children, ages 5, 8, 11, and 14, attend OC.OC has been an extension of support for us, especially in areas andtimes we’ve failed. We could be teaching our children something foryears but when they hear it from a teacher or a speaker during chapelat school, it has a more transformational and lasting impact on them. Some of the teachers our children have had at OC have been instrumentalin helping us sow into them our Christian values. It’s beencomforting to know that our children are in an environment surroundedby friends and teachers whose values align with ours.We keep our children at OC because we believe in the investmentwe’re making in our children and their academic and spiritual education. When our children sing worship songs in the car or they tithetheir own money to church or our five-year-old prays at night thankingJesus for dying on the cross for our sins that’s when we receiveconfirmation of the fruits of our investment. Their Christian faith isweaved into the people they are today and in the choices they makenot just on Sundays when they go to church. We are hopeful for theChristian leaders they are becoming. Undoubtedly, the alliance we’veformed with OC, its staff and its families, has been a tremendous pillarof support for our family. We continually pray for God to provide uswith the means to keep our children here at OC.Family Bingo NightFamily Bingo Night has been scheduledfor Saturday, April 13!Mark your calendars so you don’t miss out on a fun nightfor the entire family. There will be games, prizes, food, fellowship and many laughs. We are asking the OCcommunity for donations towards prizes, so if youhave anything you would like to donate contact NicoleDeVries at 909-983-1474 ex. 135. It would be greatly appreciated by theOCPA and a true blessing to the fundraising efforts for our OC families.11278616182217284042FREE323747 7250 7446 6444 6854 61514713329172228274238FREE3332526049465568756263734 Ontario christian schools

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 20132012-2013 Annual Report:From the Superintendent’s Deskby Ryan Groen, SuperintendentDear Friends,Some of God’s most encouraging words to us are found in Ephesians 3:20, where we read, Nowto Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to His powerthat is at work within us. Isn’t it amazing to think that God does immeasurably more than all weask or imagine? How wonderful to think that God accomplishes these things in our lives by thepower of his Holy Spirit at work within us.Ontario Christian’s vision of Growing Christian Leaders is what author Jim Collins would calla big, hairy, audacious goal in his classic leadership book, Good to Great. It almost seemsarrogant that a school would even cast such a vision. Here at Ontario Christian, we can striveto accomplish this vision because we know that God’s power is at work in the lives of ourfaculty, staff, and students. This knowledge empowers and encourages the administration and faculty of OC to setbuilding-block goals that help us to work toward our overarching goal and vision of GrowingChristian Leaders. In the last year at Ontario Christian, each individual administrator and facultymember has set goals in collaboration and communication with his or her area leader. Asthese goals help us to Grow Christian Leaders among administration and faculty, we then havea greater capacity to accomplish the vision in the lives of individual students. For example, atthe end of last school year each of our K-8 students was personally presented with a ChristianCharacter Award that we believe God will use to bless and encourage students in developingChrist-like leadership qualities.Ryan GroenWe have also seen God doing immeasurably more at Ontario Christian this past year bycontinuing to provide for the financial needs of the school. On page 5 you will see the progresson the Annual Fund for 2012-2013. We appreciate the faithful support of many donors whohelp make this possible. On page 24 you will see the budget that will be presented at the AnnualAssociation Meeting on March 5. The budget illustrates that God is doing immeasurably morein the lives of many, many parents who are making financial sacrifices to partner with OC inGrowing Christian Leaders. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more…!Ryan Groen, Superintendentknightline q WINTER 20139

OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2013Middle School ReportBob DeGroot, Middle School PrincipalGod continues to bless Ontario Christian MiddleSchool! It’s been exciting to be a part of thiscommunity we call OCMS! We’ve been intentionalas we’ve challenged each other in homerooms, advisement, chapels and throughout ourschool days to discover what it means to live andgrow in community. We’ve been focusing this year on what “immeasurablymore” things God is doing in ourcommunity… let me just mention a few! Our 8thgrade Leadership Retreat (Thousand Pines) onceagain challenged our students to grow spirituallyand lead as Christ would lead. Our StudentCouncil continues to be a backbone of OCMSas they promote social community as well ashelping us reach out to our larger communitythrough Compassion International. One of ourCompassion children actually graduates fromthe program this year… we’ve supported herfor the past fourteen years! Our Chapel Classregularly challenges us through music and wordto remember how good our God is. Our recentBand and Choir Christmas concert was a greatexample of how blessed we are to have a fantasticmusic program – all for God’s glory. Our8th graders are continuing the 8th grade garden– started a couple years ago – as a way to learnabout and reach out to our greater community. The 8th graders look forward to a wonderful dayat our high school – many thanks to Mr. Hoekstraand his crew for making this day worthwhileand special! Our “See You at the Pole” was againOC middle school students enjoying a break between classes.an excellent time of prayer on our athletic fieldas we asked God to do immeasurably morein our school, city, state, country and world. Our annual Easter Break trip for 8th graders toWashington DC will see nearly 100 individualsexplore the foundations of our nation. Ourmiddle school has several times each year wherewe just have fun together – Christmas bowling,Valentine’s Day skating, and our annual trip toKnotts Berry Farm. It’s been exciting to see how technology ishaving a positive impact on our community aswell. Our middle school students are regularlyexposed to new and exciting technology andwe are excited to have all our 7th graders with1:1 netbooks! Our technology emphasis has alsomoved us toward MAP testing – assessments, professional development and reporting thatbuild on a rich data set to provide insight intoeach child’s learning. We regularly look at theresults of these MAP tests to reinforce currentcurriculum and practices as well as to determinespecific areas we can improve on as we teachour students. We continue to intentionally recognize studentseach month (in chapel) with a variety of Fruitsof the Spirit and Leadership Awards. In addition,we continue focusing on a Christian CharacterTrait each week and look forward to recognizingat least one special trait in each of our studentsover the course of this school year. Our studentsare regularly challenged with a variety of serviceprojects – ministering to local groups and agenciesin the name of Jesus. Our MS TEAMS (core staff from each grade level)continue to do a wonderful job of keeping us ontrack with everything from discipline to integratedunits and staff development. Thanks to ourTEAM leaders (Mike Fischer and Aaron Genzink)for the important role they play.So many good things! Continue to pray for usas we seek to grow Christian leaders in both 7thand 8th grade! OC ANNUAL REPORT c 2013Elementary School ReportMichael Wiersma, Elementary PrincipalThis past year the elementary campus couldbe described with the word transition. Therewas a transition of administration, of a fewclassroom teachers moving from one gradelevel to another, of families coming to OC forthe first time, and of students transitioning fromone grade level to the next. Transitions are areal and natural part of life, they are impossibleto avoid. The blessing for Ontario Christian hasbeen to see the quiet hand of a Sovereign Godorchestrate these transitions for His glory.Michael WiersmaBelow is a small list of the many ways God isbeing made famous through the dedication of anamazing faculty and staff, as well as through thecommitment of families who sacrifice greatly toallow Ontario Christian to walk beside them aswe raise God’s children to see His Sovereignty inall subject areas.• Sixth graders gain a greater understanding ofthe majesty of God through exploration anddiscovery on Catalina Island.• Students sharing various food items eachmonth to assist a local neighborhoodfood pantry.• Students use their gifts to minister to theresidents at Inland Christian Home throughmusic and conversation.• Fifth graders learn of God’s Sovereignty in theforming of this nation as they study and roleplay events of Colonial American history.Christmas concerts are a highlight of the school year.• Every single student was identified by theirclassroom teacher with one ChristianCharacter Trait. Students received acertificate containing a definition of the traitand a bible verse where the trait was taught.• One first grade student excitedly sharedwith her teacher that the night before shehad accepted Jesus Christ as her personalLord and Savior, and also led her brother inprayer.• Students are gaining exposure and greateropportunities to learn through the use oftechnology with iPod touches in the primarygrades and a mobile lab in the intermediategrades.• The faculty has an opportunity to hear God’svoice together each Wednesday morningthrough devotions which are led by staffmembers.• There is a continuous effort made to takea critical look at our curriculum and bemindful of ways that we can improve andprovide the highest level of academicachievement as possible. At left, one of the trails on Catalina Island. We rejoiced in celebrating Christ’s birthby letting the world know that Jesus is the Lightof the World and we can shine like stars to spreadthe story of Jesus. The children sang songs andrecited scripture to tell the triumphant story. Partof the offering taken that evening went to “Excessto Empowerment” to provide some school suppliesfor children at an African school. We even have technology in Preschool!! Thepreschool and Jr. K students have the opportunityto “work” on iPods a couple days duringthe week. They are learning their numbers, letters and concepts by playing fun games andtracing their letters and numbers. The value forpreschool students is they are learning theircurriculum, concepts, fine motor, eye-handcoordination, concentration and patience!! Theclassrooms are also getting outfitted with projectorsand doc cams. The preschool had a great time with the snowthat was blown in. Thanks to a teacher grantfrom OCPA we were able to provide that for ourpreschoolers. We’ve had many events and arelooking forward to more withour trips Amy’s Farm PumpkinPatch, Santa Ana Zoo, BusRides, Auction Activity-a-thons,Grandparents Tea and Mom &Dad Picnic.Jane ReichertStudents participating in The Light of the World Christmas Program.God has blessed our preschoolwith wonderful families and wethank you for your volunteering, donations and all you do for thepreschool.
