USBC’s mission also remains the same. We willcontinue to serve the leagues and associations thatare the engine that drives USBC. We understandit’s our role to service those entities and to be therefor them so they can support us. Our mission hasnot changed one bit.USBC CHANGES AWARDSPROGRAMKeeping in line with its vision to grow the sport ofbowling, USBC believes there’s a differencebetween recognizing an accomplishment andrewarding an achievement. It’s a shift in focusUSBC applied to its youth awards program morethan a year ago, and it’s now being applied toUSBC’s adult members in selected awardscategories.Starting August 1, USBC members who rollgames at least 100 pins over their averages willreceive emblems in recognition of theaccomplishment while those who bowl 298 and 299games will earn 11 strikes-in-a-row plaques.Those who roll a 298 or 299 games and wantanother form of recognition (such as a ring) will beable to purchase them through USBC. The CenturyWatch for bowling 100 pins over your average willno longer be available. USBC also is consideringadditional purchasable options for 298 or 299bowlers.This change is the first step in the transition froma reward-based philosophy to one of appropriaterecognition. According to former USBC ChiefExecutive Officer Roger Dalkin, “for too long theorganization and its predecessors rewardedachievements rather than recognizing theaccomplishment.”USBC also is discontinuing league high game andhigh average pins because most leagues alreadyoffer their own high game/high series awards.GCBA HIGH AVERAGE AND SERIESCongratulations to Chris Federer for having thehighest average in the GCBA during the 2006-07season, and Derrick Beard for bowling the highestseries in the GCBA during the 2006-07 season.Chris averaged 229 in the Friday Night MensLeague at Poplar Junction Lanes. Derrick bowled anextraordinary 840 series in the Wednesday NightMens League at Salem Bowl.CONGRATULATIONS CHRIS & DERRICK.2GCBA HALL OF FAMEThe GCBA will hold their First Hall of FameBanquet and 2006-2007 Awards Program atMichael’s Restaurant – 415 Broadway – inHighland on Saturday, October 27, 2007. TheProgram is open to the public. There will be two(2) new members inducted into the GCBA Hall ofFame -Charlie Kunkel from Breese and Dan Nicklinfrom Aviston. These two bowlers will join the 45members already in the GCBA Hall of Fame. Thiswill be the 10 th Hall of Fame Banquet, but the firstone that will be held with the Awards for the 2006-2007 bowling season.Tickets are $10.00 for adults in advance and$15.00 at the door and includes dinner, inductionceremony, awards presentation and attendance prizeopportunities.Social hour will begin at 6:00 PM and dinner willbe served at 7:00 PM. Bartelso. This is a one day tournament beginning atNoon, and is open to all GCBA members who are atleast 50 years old as of November 4, 2007. Theformat is the same as last year’s tournamentallowing the bowlers to compete with bowlers intheir age bracket. The tournament will be dividedinto two divisions – bowlers between the ages of 50and 59, and bowlers 60 years of age and older.Each bowler will bowl four games – rotating onepair of lanes to the right after each game. After thefour games, the top four bowlers in each divisionwill bowl “bracket style” within their division. Thetop qualifier will bowl the fourth qualifier and thesecond qualifier will bowl the third qualifier withthe winners bowling each other to determine thewinner of their division. The winner of eachdivision will bowl each other to determine theoverall GCBA Senior Scratch Champion.There will be one shift at Noon, and it is limitedto 30 bowlers. The entry fee is $50.00 and mustaccompany your entry blank to assure your spot.The estimated first place prize is $500.00 based on30 entries. Advanced registration by phone isrecommended and available by calling Tim Rutz at654-9840. We must have at least 20 bowlers signedup by November 1, 2007 or the event will becancelled. Complete rules along with the entryblanks are available at each bowling center.GCBA SINGLES SCRATCH CLASSICThe GCBA Singles Scratch Classic will be held atTen Pin Bowl in Carlyle on Sunday, December 2,2007 at Noon. This is a one day tournament open toall GCBA members. The format is the same as lastyear. Each bowler will roll five games – rotatingone pair of lanes to the right after each game. Afterthe five games, the top five bowlers will bowl “TVSTYLE” to determine the GCBA ScratchChampion. There will be one shift at Noon, and itis limited to 60 bowlers. The entry fee is $50.00and must accompany your entry blank to assureyour spot. The estimated first place prize is$500.00 based on 30 entries. Advanced registrationby phone is recommended and available by callingTim Rutz at 654-9840. We must have at least 20bowlers signed up by November 26, 2007 or theevent will be cancelled. Complete rules along withthe entry blanks are available at each bowlingcenter.GCBA HANDICAP TOURNAMENTThe 66 th Annual GCBA Handicap TeamTournament will be held at V&H Recreation inBreese. It will begin Saturday, February 23, 2008and will run through Sunday, April 6, 2008. Squadtimes will be at 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Saturdays.There will be one squad at Noon on Sundays. Dueto prior commitments, there will be no bowling onFebruary 23 rd at 8:00 PM and both shifts on March22 nd . There will also be no bowling on EasterSunday, March 23 rd .The Singles and Doubles Events will be held atSalem Bowl in Salem. It will begin on Saturday,February 23, 2008 and run through Sunday, March30, 2008. Squad times will be at 4:00 PM and 8:00PM on Saturdays. There will be one squad at Noonon Sundays. There will be no bowling at 8:00 PMon February 23, and there will be no bowling onEaster Sunday March 23 rd .Again this year, there will be an optional SinglesScratch Event, an optional Doubles Scratch Event,and an optional Team Scratch Event.Multiple Singles and DoublesAgain this year you will have the opportunity tobowl singles and doubles as often as you desireduring the GCBA Handicap Tournament. However,unlike last year you must bowl both singles anddoubles. Please keep in mind that you can cash onlyonce in singles no matter how many times you bowlthe singles event. Your highest singles score willcount in the standings and the score from the firsttime you bowl singles will count towards your allevents score. On the other hand, in doubles you cancash as many times as you enter with differentpartners. The score from the first time you bowldoubles will count towards your all events score.Entering Tournament AverageAgain this year, bowlers will use their highestUSBC sanctioned league average – with aminimum of 21 games – from the 2006-07 season.You can find your highest USBC average atwww.bowl.com by clicking on Find a Member onthe left side column, fill out your information, clickon search, and then click on 2006-07. If you are anew bowler or did not have a 21 game average lastseason, you must use your highest USBCsanctioned league average as of JANUARY 1,2008. All others bowl scratch. You can also find3
