Page 9 of 118My Young Dear(A short story)Tape muffled agirl’s cry. No one couldhear her, even if theywere listening.“I will bestow agift to you, myyoung dear,” adeep raspy voicesaid as abeautiful womancame out of theshadows. The girl saidsomething behind theduct tape, nothingintelligible camethough. She squirmed, trying to get free fromthe rope that limited hermovement.“There will beno rescue for you, myyoung dear.” The deepraspy voice said. Hewalked into view. Hehad a tape recorder tightin his grip. “I’m goingto let you say your finalwords to this recorder. Iwill only give you onechance, my young dear.Choose wise words. I’llsend one copy to eachof your loved ones.” Hegrabbed her face withone hand. He smiled, with a sparkle in hiseyes. He let out a laugh. What horrified the girlwas that there washappiness in his eyes, like he was a child in acandy store. The womanslowly came closer, andthe man let go andmoved out of the way.The woman ripped theduct tape off the girl’smouth, shooting painthroughout the girl’swhole face. Shescreamed. The womanwas smiling too.“Please,” the girlbegged, “don’t do this!”She choked back tears, trying to keep a stronghead. The man shookhis head though, stillamused. “What’s thepoint of this? You willget caught!” Shescreamed at him, andhis acquaintance.“Shhhh,” theman cooed. “This is ourhome! No need for cruelwords, my young dear. Now say your finalwords!” He shoved therecorder towards thegirl’s mouth andcrouched beside her. Hesmelled fowl. Thestench was so strong thegirl wanted to gag. Heclicked the recorder on.She swallowed hard.“I love you.”She said it so smoothlythe man lost his smile.“That’saaaaaall?” The mancomplained. “I hoped itwould be more deep andtouching.” She didn’tsay another word. Heclicked the recorder offwhen she refused to saymore.“You will becaught!” She said, andstarted to cry again. Hertears were the onlywarm and humane thingin the room.“Probably,” theman said tilting his headsideways, “but youwon’t be here to see it.”He grabbed a knife froma table nearby. “It’s ashame to see such apretty and pure face likeyours, in such an uglyand sick world likemine, my young dear.”He took the knife andput it to her neck. Shescreamed as he touchedher neck with the knife, and made a swift, deepcut to her throat. Thewoman laughed as thelifeless body fell to thefloor. The man wentand picked up aphotograph. Page 10 of 118Red Walrus RedemptionThe Walrus lookedinto the horizon, as a singletear rolled down his cheek. Hesighed, and turned his headdejectedly, his head lowered. He dragged his feet on the icyground, and into his Antarcticcave. Ugh, he thought.(walrus’s can’t talk) Heslumped down on his couch, which was coated with a thicklayer of that orange stuff thatgets on your fingers when youeat Cheetos. He grabbed a fishout of a bowl, and took a bite. The other fish in the bowllooked up at him, yelling,“Please don’t eat us!” (fish cantalk)The Walrus’s namewas Jim. He was 768 and ahalf years old, and was justkicked out of his band, “SgtPenguin’s Eating Fish ClubBand.” Which is why he wassad. He adjusted his jacket, and slumped down further. Hetook another fish, andmunched. When he ate it, itsquealed feebly. Jim got up,and put on a CD. It was LadyGaga. He started singing alongin his mind, a little cheered up,but not a lot. He dancedaround, and eventually calledup a friend on his cellularbanana (In this story, bananasare used as a substitute forphones, as there is a surplus ofBananas in the Arctic, and avery small amount of cellphones)Soon (16.24 minutes tobe exact,) his friend, Pengo thePenguin showed up, alongwith Pigu the Pig. Jim knewPigu, because, sadly, there arenot a whole lot of pigs in theArctic. Tragic, really.Anyways, Jim looked toPengo, and gave a friendlynod. Pengo said hi (penguinscan talk) and Pigu nodded.(pigs can’t)After Pengo talked awhile, as the others noddedvigorously and drank theirsoda, they all got up andshook hands. Before leavingthough, Pengo said, “It’s toobad that you got kicked out ofthe band. You should find theother members and convincethem to take you back.” Jimthought about thisproposition, and smiled. Henodded again, his mustachenow lopsided from all thenodding he’d been doing. The next day, he tookoff, grabbing his backpackand using the magical powersthat all Walruses have to flyaway on a stream ofrainbows. He journeyed far, facing many dangers, including an evil pink ninjaweasel with wings on its face.Once he had defeated orevaded these dangers, hecame to a clearing in theChewing Gum forest. Hisband members slowly creptout of the sticky bushes.“Gah!” they all said, shakingthe sticky off. (they could alltalk) They eventually lookedup at Jim, and the “leader”,Gorkinsquash, beckoned forthe drummer,Yorshkrunskwarklejolnerstrink. They both surrounded Jim,the other two,Gornonbenmayerguld andGreckencoodle both hungback.“You know why wekicked you out Jim.”Gorkinsquash said. “Yourname is not nearly longenough to be in the band.”“Yeah!”Gornonbenmayerguld calledout.Gorkinsquash lookedat Jim, and said, “Y’knowwhat? If you can beat me in arhyme battle, I’ll let you backin.” But Jim couldn’t talk!He nodded anyway, and took his position.Gorkinsquash took his, andall of a sudden, spectacularrhymes spewed from hismouth in a flurry of epic. Jimreeled, but knew he couldbeat it. He took a sheet ofpaper, and wrote his rhymeon it. He showed it, and theband member exploded. Thepaper said Orange. Jimtraveled back home, just a bitremorseful. He saw that thefish had all escaped his bowl.He would have to catch them.Life goes on. And on. Andon.Matthew Luncente
