St Raphael’s Charity ShopsNew “Gift Aid”schemesuccessfullylaunchedWe have recently launched a newscheme which enables the hospiceto re-claim “gift aid” on donatedgoods sold through our charity shops. The new scheme is in operation in all ourshops and in the past year raised an extra£72,000 for the hospice from gift aid.Already some 5,000 donors are signed up,It works by the donors ofdonated goods firstly signinga shops gift aid form and thendonating goods to us. Whenwe then sell those goods inour shops, which have beendonated by that individual, and therefore have createda money value, the hospicecan reclaim gift aid from thegovernment on that value.More potentialAlthough 5,000 supportersare now giving donatedgoods to us under gift aid, that represents just 3 outof every 10 donations ofgoods made to the hospice shops. If more of the other 8 out of 10 donorsof goods can also sign up to gift aid, thevalue for St Raphael’s would be even more. Our target is to raise an extra £100,000 forthe hospice. Can you sign up for gift aid?The only qualifications for taking part inthe gift aid scheme is that you pay UKincome tax (or Capital Gains Tax) and thatyou pay at least the amount of tax whichthe charity will claim in gift aid on yourcharitable donation. For people who are inemployment or self employed, that is notusually going to be a problem! Some supporters do not think they payincome tax, perhaps because they do nothave a paid job, but if you have a privatepension, or have savings in a buildingsociety which earn interest you almostcertainly do pay income tax. It may not bevery much, but it could be enough to covera “gift aid” donation. If you have not yet done so, and youdonate goods to our shops, PLEASE givethem via gift aid. Forms are available atall our shops, or on the website www.straphaels.org.uk under the SHOPS section.Top: Supporter June Whitfield at one of ourshops Below: Comedian Arthur Smith (GrumpyOld Man!) opens our most recent new shopST RAPHAEL’SCHARITY SHOPSRetail Manager:Jan CunninghamFor collections of donatedgoods please call020 8330 4501Banstead Shop90 High StreetBansteadSurrey SM7 2NNTel: 01737 370166Carshalton Beeches Shop81 Banstead RoadCarshalton SM5 3NPTel: 020 8770 3677Carshalton Shop46 High StreetCarshalton SM5 3APTel: 020 8669 5535Cheam Shop3 High StreetCheam Village SM3 8RQTel: 020 8643 9326Epsom Shop73 High StreetEpsom KT19 8DNTel 01372 722937Raynes Park Shop10 Lambton RoadRaynes Park SW20 0LRTel: 020 8739 0225Rosehill Shop18 The MarketWrythe LaneRosehill SM5 1AGTel: 020 8644 9673Stonecot Hill Shop2/4 Tudor DriveStonecot HillSutton SM4 4PETel: 020 8330 0086Worcester Park Shop98 Central RoadWorcester Park KT4 8HUTel: 020 8337 3578Worcester Park Furniture Store198-202 Cheam Common RoadWorcester Park KT4 8QJTel: 020 8330 4501Sutton Shop279 High StreetSutton SM1 1LDTel: 020 8722 0591How many ways are there to support St Raphael’s?Here are some other ways in which youcould help support the work of the hospice.IndividualsMake a personal donation“Gift Aid” your donation if you pay income tax or capital gains taxJoin one of our local volunteer supporter groupsDonate good quality unwanted goods to our charity shops(using our shops gift aid scheme)Visit our Charity shops and buy goodsDo an Overseas Sponsored TrekJoin the Hospice LotteryOrganise a fundraising eventBecome a “Regular Giver” via a Bank Sanding orderRecycle your old mobile phones via the hospiceHave a personal collecting box at homeRemember St Raphael’s through a gift in your WillMake a donation In Memory of a loved oneSet up a Tribute Fund in memory of a loved oneHelp with “flag day” collections at supermarkets etcBecome an advocate, willing to speak on behalf of St Raphael’sBecome a Volunteer in the hospiceBecome a Volunteer in one of our Charity ShopsBusinessesBecome a St Raphael’s Corporate ChampionAdopt St Raphael’s as your “Charity of the Year”Encourage your staff to fundraise for the hospiceOrganise a Hospice Lottery syndicate with your staffEnable your staff to donate to charity via Payroll givingDonate “end of line” goods to our charity shopsDonate “Gifts in Kind”Organise a fundraising eventMake a Company DonationRecycle any unwanted mobile phones via the hospiceHave a St Raphael’s Collecting box in your reception/on your counterThe 1st Cheam Park Farm GuidesThe 1st Cheam Park Farm Guides choseto support St Raphael’s Hospice aspart of the Girlguiding UK’s centenary‘Changing the World’ project. The Guides organised a series offundraising activities to support the work ofthe Hospice.
