Coping with his illness and the knowledgethat he was going to die was devastatingly hard. We were putinto contact with St Raphael’s during his illness and, althoughhe never became an in-patient and in fact died at home, theHospice helped me in practical ways. The knowledge that theywere there for us was of tremendous comfort at a time when youfeel very frightened and alone.I believe passionately that the work of the Hospice must bekept going and we in the local community, who may need itfor ourselves or our loved ones one day, are best placed todo it. I try to do my bit by selling things for the Hospice, byhelping at fund-raising events, by making a monthly donationby standing order and leaving a legacy in my Will. I feelsomehow that in this way something can be salvaged fromthe sadness of David’s death.”Roger Thistle and Jill RosselliJill says: “I understand from personal experience whatwonderful work hospices do. My grandfather died in a hospice,my uncle received care, and only last December my motherdied in one. So I have always known how important the workof St Raphael’s is.
