Choice of welding consumables forstainless steels applicationsStainless SteelsApplicationsChoice of welding consumablesChoice of electrodes depends on material to be welded. The composition of weld metalmust be at least at the same level as plate material regarding Cr, Ni, Mo etc.·►Plate 304/304L- use Primalloy 308L►Plate 316/316L- use Primalloy 316L►Use Primalloy electrodes for fillet welding and filling of joints;►Use Arosta electrodes for out of position welding and root runs. They are also verysuitable for pipe welding vertical up;►For welding unalloyed/mild steel to chromium- and chromium-nickel stainless steelbuffer electrodes use: Primalloy 309L. Primalloy 309LMo is possible too, but 309L ispreferred for thickness >12,5mm to reduce the risk of embrittlement.►For repair welding of difficult weldable steels such as tool- and spring steel use:Primalloy 312;►For welding 12% manganese steel, armour plate, surfacing of rail and as a buffer forcladding use: Primalloy 309LStainless steel electrodes can be welded on AC or DC polarity. For less spatter, betterweldability and smooth bead appearance, DC+ polarity is preferred.Choice of welding consumables forStainless Steel Applicationswww.lincolnelectric.com.au19
