Welcome to the course packageApplied Sustainability Studies!30 credits, Spring Semester 2012Institutions of higher education - indeed, all schools - must aim to create an ecologically competentcitizenry, one that knows how Earth works as a physical system and why that knowledge is vitallyimportant to them personally and to the larger human prospect. […] The scientific evidence suggeststhat the years ahead will test coming generations in extraordinary ways. Educators are obliged to tellthe truth about such things but then to convert the anxiety that often accompanies increasedawareness of danger to positive energy that can generate constructive changes. (David Orr, 2010)This course package at CEMUS, a part of Uppsala Centre for Sustainable Development, CSDUppsala, gives you the opportunity to study and discuss the great challenges of our times in acreative and inspiring context.Introduction, Registration and Open HouseIntroduction and registration to the course-package will take place on Monday January 16between 10 and 12 AM at CEMUS. This will be followed by an Open house (including tours,welcome reception, "fika" and other activities) in the afternoon between 1 and 5 PM, also atCEMUS. Course literature will also be available to buy so bring some cash with you. See map at theend for directions on how to get to CEMUS.Important! Thissemester's lecture, Key Debates in Sustainability: The University as Revolutionary, Reformist orConservative Institution? , will focus on personal reflections on social change and lessons from therevolutions of 2011.
