Metz – AerialsAerials – MetzThe Metz L32A-XS.The revolutionary articulation concept.Parked cars, overgrown foliage, narrow streets. Aerialladders are used in ever-tighter spaces. Our responseto that is the Metz XS. It enables far more flexibility indeployment location. Its compact action radius gives firstresponders in the tightest of spaces access to deploymentareas that were previously inaccessible. And that’s not all: Simple solutions are often the best. With the Metz XS, our engineers have once again proventhat there are simple and uncomplicated ways to meetthe demands of firefighters.LadderThe robustness of the Metz ladderset is what made the XS conceptpossible. Box-joint construction incombination with fine-grained steelgive Metz ladders enormous reservesof strength. The Metz XS articulation conceptWhat’s special about the Metz XSis its innovative articulated boom:The pivot point on the ladder movesinward, like a jack knife. The laddersections open to a distance of threerungs. That enables the articulatedsection to be lowered at an angle, achieving a new dimension on maneuverabilitydespite the additional900 mm length of the cage boom. The Metz XS has a cage boom lengthof up to 4.6 m without the need foran additional drive, which reducesthe minimum action radius to anunprecedented 7.4 m.Even with the new articulated boom, the Metz XS offers exemplary outreachvalues:OperationThe action radius and placement ofthe cage in front of the driver’s cabdo not require any extra operatingsteps. In the field every step can beperformed intuitively.Jacking systemThe Metz horizontal-vertical jackingsystem is the ideal combination forthe XS. It can be deployed flexiblyover or between obstacles and at thesame time secures the deploymentarea.450 kg rescue cageThe XS is also equipped with our proven450 kg rescue cage. This product, developedto meet the demands of firefighters, sets the standard for aerial ladders.67

Metz – Aerials3Aerials – MetzThe Metz aerial product range. From compact to way up high.211 Metz L27 / Metz L32The Metz L27 (DLAK 18/12) impresseswith its compact design. With awidth of just 2.4 m and approved totalweight of just 13 tons, it is ideallysuited to narrow streets and historicinner cities. The Metz L32 (DLAK 23/12) achievesits maximum outreach at a jackingwidth of just 4.85 m. Its stable ladderand 450 kg cage have made the L32the backbone of rescue operations.2 Metz L39 / Metz L41The Metz L39 and the Metz L41 arean extension of the L32 concept. Thefive-section ladder enables workingheights of up to 41 m. At the sametime these ladders are compact andmaneuverable.3 Metz L56 / Metz L62With the Metz L56 and Metz L62,rescue capacity, lift speed, and safetyequipment have the highest priority. The added three-person lift capacitymeans that 50% more people can berescued. These high-performanceladders reach their working height of62 m extremely quickly at a lift speedof 1.4 m/s.XF version: extra flat.Old city alleyways, narrow tunnels, and historic firestations with lower clearances – some working environmentsrequire aerials with the lowest possible height. This is where the Metz XS version proves invaluable. Thanks to the ultra-flat, highly stable substructure theXF version scores high marks for total height. Dependingon the kind of chassis and ladder used, the total heightcan be kept under 3 m.The XF version is available for the L27, L32, L32A, L32A-XSand L39 Metz ladders.89

Metz – AerialsAerials – MetzMetz ladders.High stability for maximum safety.54 cm widthThe interior width of the uppermostladder section is a comfortable 54 cm.This enables first responders in fullgear to climb the ladder unrestricted.Box-joint constructionThe patented box-joint constructiondistributes forces evenly across theupper and lower rails. This increasesthe torsion stiffness of the entireladder set.All rungs fully grippableThe generous spacing of the rungsensures that the ladder can evenbe climbed when the rungs are positionedone over the other – for a safegrip, even when rungs are aligned.Highest quality workmanshipEvery Metz ladder set is made fromhigh-strength fine-grain steel andthen powder coated. The hermeticallysealed welding reliably protects theinterior of the ladder set, protectingit from corrosion.Optional: active hydraulicvibration dampingMetz aerials are so stable that theydo not need any additional damping.Customers who want take advantageof this additional convenience, however, have the option of adding activehydraulic vibration damping.3D load measurementThe ladder set is connected to theturret at three points. At these points, all of the loads applied to the ladderare recorded by load cells. Themeasuring system simultaneouslydetects rotational impacts and torsionloads. The precisely engineeredbearings of the ladder set enableexact measurement. The result isbetter stability and safer operation.Automatic terrain compensationThe automatic terrain compensationsystem keeps the ladder set in thehorizontal position up to a longitudinalor lateral inclination angle of 8.5°in relation to the vehicle. The terraincompensation system switches onautomatically when the aerial isdeployed.Use for bridging or as a recoverycraneThe high stability of this ladder setmakes it possible to lift, rotate, andlower payloads of up to 4,000 kg.This enables the ladder to be used asa stable bridge in mass evacuations.1415

Metz – AerialsAerials – MetzThe 450 kg Rescue cage.Attention to the smallest details. When it comes to functionality, user-friendliness, safety, and spaciousness, Metz cage technology has always beenin a class of its own. Through the process of continuousrefinement, our engineers have now achieved yet anothertechnological quantum leap. The Metz 450 kg cage islighter, more convenient and offers enough space for upto four people.Pivoting control panelThe control panel is located on theleft side of the cage. This ensuresthat the cage operator is always inview of the person at the main controlpanel. This also frees up the middleof the cage to enable easy entry andexit.Securing the stretcherThe stretcher is secured to the middleof the cage. This improves stabilityand prevents the cage from leaning toone side.More space through flaredsidesThe flared sides of the cageensure a comfortable amount ofspace for personnel in breathingapparatus.Diverse accessoriesFour entry pointsFirst responders can enter the cage from any side, depending on the situation. The rear entrance offerssafe, convenient access to the ladder. The cage controlscan be pivoted to the side to allow unhindered entry andcreate three entry points on the front of the cage.Integrated ladderA fold-out stepladder integrated into the middle entranceof the cage simplifies entry on uneven terrain and balconies.Every fire station has its specialties. The Metz cage canbe individually configured with custom equipment for anypurpose. A range of accessories, such as lighting, pumpingequipment, power supplies, stretchers and much more, makes every Metz a fire station’s trusted comrade.Manual cage leveling from themain control panelAs standard equipment, Metz aerialshave a separate cage-leveling controllever at the main control panel. This makes it possible to level theunmanned cage from a safe distancein special situations.1617

Metz – AerialsAerials – MetzThe jacking system.A solid footing guarantees safety. The Metz horizontal-vertical jacking systemFor stability, every Metz aerial ladder is equipped with ahydraulic horizontal-vertical jacking system. The systemoffers stepless control of the horizontal and vertical movementof the jacks within the maximum jacking width.Excellent visibilityNo obstructions to trip firstresponders or pedestrians.Ground pressure measurement for optimal stabilityGround pressure sensors in each jack precisely record theresidual load. The computer then uses the data collectedby the sensors to calculate stability. This calculation iscombined with ladder torque data as an additional redundancyto ensure stability. The values can be viewed on thecontrol panel.Exact detection of jack width for optimal outreachJacking width detection on all of the Metz aerials is steplessand precise to the millimeter. The jacks are movedvia joysticks on the jack control panels. These are integratedinto the rear of the vehicle, with one on each side. This ensures that each individual jack can be preciselypositioned. The individual jack widths are recorded byjack-width sensors and calculated in relation to the sideof the vehicle. This ensures optimal outreach capability.Use of the jacks in close quartersGround pressure sensorsIn every jack, sensors monitorground pressure.By extending the jacks in line with the contours of thevehicle, they can be deployed in a space as narrow as 3 mwhile enabling a fully loaded cage which can be extendedto the maximum ladder outreach and rotated 360°.Rear wheels suspended in the jacking processJacking in demanding situationsClearing obstaclesSub-ground-level applicationsExtended terrain compensationOnce the wheels of the vehicle are suspended, four clearlydefined jacking points create structurally secure and solidground contact in any operating situation. The vehicleweight rests on all of the jacks and the rear axle can beused as a counterweight. The clearly defined jacking pointsallow Metz aerials to be operated with a 6% residual load,in accordance with the new EN 14043 standard. The jacking system can clear obstacles up to 300 mm highwith no problem. Metz aerials can even achieve optimalstability on uneven ground because each jack can beadapted individually to the terrain or the road surface. The jacking system can be used toelevate the aerial high enough thatthe overhang of the turret can betilted to clear obstacles. Thanks to their variable jacking capabilities, the ladders on Metz aerialscan be lowered to angles of up to-22°. This enables rapid and safesub-ground-level operations. The automatic terrain compensationensures that the aerial ladder remainshorizontal at angles of up to 8.5°.The jacking system can increase thisangle to up to 14° perpendicular tothe direction of travel and up to 11°in the direction of travel.1819
