sports’ lightingfootball stadium SK Kladno; foto: archiv IndalLighting of Premier Leaguefootball stadium SK Kladno>>> case studyLighting of premier football leaguestadium SK KladnoLighting scheme for this premier football league stadium wasin fact a re-fit of an existing lighting scheme that had been inoperation since late 70's. This had put some restrictions onINDAL as we had to use existing lighting columns that werenowhere near the latest requirements especially as far asnumber of floodlights were concerned to achieve FIFATV broadcasting requirements.Vista IZM luminaire"We do not sell a mere product. We sell light."indal_EN_november06/022

Our initial work therefore contained not only numerous lightingcalculation options but also very close interface with structuralengineers in order to find an optimum balance betweennumber of floodlights and structural reinforcement of lightingcolumns while making sure that FIFA requirements are kept. Our optional lighting calculations included an option whenconsiderable number of floodlights was positioned on the topedge of the roof over the spectator's main stand. This optionhad proved to be very advantageous for structural engineershowever, glare levels were unsatisfactorily high and would notcomply with FIFA requirements. Finally, we had come to compromising solution byre-enforcing two main lighting columns to carry increasednumber of floodlights in order to support TV camera positionedon the main spectator's main stand. This solution hadsaved the club considerable amount of money as they hadto re-enforce only two, out of four lighting columns whileachieving the minimum FIFA requirements for lighting. The final spread of floodlights around the pitch was done insuch a way that two lighting columns further down from thespectator's main stand were fitted with 30 pieces of 2000WVista IZM floodlights and two lighting columns facing the pitchfrom the side of a TV camera were fitted with 54 pieces of2000W Vista IZM floodlights. The total number of floodlightswas therefore 168 pieces of Vista IZM of five different lightingcharacteristics.football stadium SK Kladno; foto: archiv INDALThe lighting scheme was designed in six levels:1) International level matches with TV broadcast - max. level2) National level matches with TV broadcast3) Matches with TV broadcast with power failure – backedup by diesel4) Regular matches without TV broadcast5) Practice6) Maintenance and emergency. These are the main lighting parameters of this lightingscheme:Vertical luminance:Em: 1480lx Um: 0,76 Uex: 0,5Horizontal luminance:Em: 1638lx Um: 0,81 Uex: 0,7The lighting scheme was calculated with maintenance factorof 0,8. Although, it is tempting to calculate with maintenancefactor equal to 1,0, the professionally conducted lightingscheme should always consider maintenance factor lowerthan 1,0 in spite of slightly higher number of required floodlights.sports’ lightingThese parameters have been confirmed by an independentlighting measuring body which was carried out after the installationwas completed.

This complicated lighting scheme was achievable mainlythanks to wide variety of Vista IZM floodlights that allowlightingengineer to find just the right solution. The range of Vista IZMfloodlights come as standard with seven different reflectors.Except lamp replacement, Vista IZM floodlights require no furthermaintenance. Lamp replacement is completely tool-freeoperation without the need to re-aim the floodlight. The complete lighting scheme was calculated using OSRAMHQI-TS 2000W/D/S lamps with short arc. These high powerlamps provide very good value for money. The pitch is of a standard size 105x68m while the installationheight is 33,5m to the centre of the installation grid. The complete range of Vista IZM floodlights represents thelatest development in sports lighting and provides the customerswith optimum lighting parameters while complying withall the latest regulations including all environmental ones whileproviding 15 years guarantee.Vista IZM – lamp replacementsports’ lightingLighting schemeCzech standard ÈSN EN 12193 (outdoor lighting requirements)UEFA/FIFA requirementsHorizontal parametersE m (lx)UniformityU mColour reproductionindexInternational and league matches 500 0,7 60Regional matches 200 0,6 60Practice 75 0,5 20Vertical parametersHorizontal parametersRequirements E m U m U ex E m U m U exInternational matches withTV broadcast1400 0,7 0,5 1500-2000 0,8 0,6Investor:Design & supplier:SK KladnoIndal C&EE, s.r.o.www.indal.czwww.light4sport.cz
