You don’t need to pay high feesto commercial tax preparers. Do youneed help in filling your tax paperwork?Ho Chunk Community DevelopmentCorporation is hosting a “Free VITA TaxPreparation Event” on February 9, 2013and February 16, 2013 from 10am until5pm on both Saturdays in the Basementof the Library at Little Priest Tribal College.Since some of the tax rules havenot been finalized yet, full refunds maytake a little longer to receive this year.Remember to bring social security cardsfor yourself and dependents, and yourincome and expense information to theevent. For more information contactBrenda Conway at 402-878-2192, Extension109, or bconway@hochunkcdc.orgItems you need to bring:To have your tax return(s) preparedat a VITA site you need to bring the followinginformation with you:Proof of identification – Picture IDSocial Security Cards for you, yourspouse and dependents or a Social SecurityNumber verification letter issuedby the Social Security Administration orIndividual Taxpayer IdentificationNumber (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependentsProof of foreign status, if applyingfor an ITINWhat others are saying…“Dear Council Member and MRHD”Having read most of the informationregarding the progress of negotiationsfor the local gaming license we werevery pleased that one of the proposalsinvolves a revitalization of an area ofDowntown Sioux City. The proposal 7 miles south by PortNeal I believe would create a great dealof friction with the WinnaVegas Casinoand the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. They have done extensive expansionsand added great amenities and wouldnot be happy with another new casinoat their “front Door”.The proposal we feel is most in linewith the overall betterment of Siouxlandis the Ho-Chunk proposal for the WarriorHotel, Davidson Building and otherbuildings/land in that general area.In its day the Warrior Hotel was agrand hotel but has sat vacant for 30years [ + ]. The Davidson Building andsurrounding buildings have a highvacancy rate. Utilization of that entirearea would have an extremely positiveimpact on the entire downtown businessarea. The addition of 2 parking ramps withskyway connections to the new casinoand the skyway network in downtownSioux City will increase traffic to thedowntown shops/businesses.Ho-Chunk has become an ADDI-TIONAL “economic development entity”for Sioux City, Woodbury County, andSiouxland with current and future investmentsin Siouxland.Birth dates for you, your spouse anddependents on the tax returnWage and earning statement(s) FormW-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc from allemployersInterest and dividend statementsfrom banks (Forms 1099)A copy of last year’s federal and statereturns if availableProof of bank account routing numbersand account numbers for DirectDeposit, such as a blank checkTotal paid for daycare provider andthe daycare provider’s tax identifyingnumber (the provider’s Social SecurityNumber or the provider’s businessEmployer Identification Number) if appropriateTo file taxes electronically on amarried-filing-joint tax return, bothspouses must be present to sign therequired forms. It is extremely important that eachperson use the correct Social SecurityNumber. The most accurate informationis usually located on your original SocialSecurity card. If you do not have anSSN for you or a dependent, you shouldcomplete Form SS-5, Social SecurityNumber Application. This form shouldbe submitted to the nearest Social SecurityAdministration Office. If you or your dependent is not eligibleto get a Social Security Number, you may need an Individual TaxpayerIdentification Number (ITIN).Their purchase of ATOKAD PARKmade it evident that the WinnebagoTribe wants to create jobs in our area. While contemplating your selection forthe Argosy/ Land based Casino keep inmind that the race track could easily beconverted to a Class III Casino underthe Nebraska Gaming Laws and theNational Indian Regulatory Act.High stakes bingo, Video machinesthat look, feel & taste like slot machines,Horse & dog racing simulcasting, andtable games where you get “bingo” whenyou get 2 cards that equal 21.My experience working with the WinnebagoTribe has led me to believe thatHo-Chunk intended to expand IndianGaming when they bought Atokad andI would make sure in the negotiationsthat they agree NOT to have any formof gaming that would compete with thenew City Land Based Casino. In my opinion, the City of Sioux Cityand Woodbury County would be bestserved if they “negotiate” the best of allthe deals with any perks you want bysitting down with Lance Morgan & Ho-Chunk and arrive at a program thatworks for everyone.WIN! WIN!A FEW KEY FACTORS TO CONSIDERARE THAT WITH HO-CHUNK ANDTHE WINNEBAGO TRIBE OF NE-BRASKA:ALL THE MONEY STAYS IN SIOUX-LAND AND WOODBURY COUNTYAREA;Use your tax refund to achieve yourfamily’s financial goals. Pay bills, improveyour credit by reducing your debt,or save for a house, your education ora small business. Make sure that youkeep copies of your federal return, you’llneed those for other things you applyfor in the future.Ho Chunk Community DevelopmentCorporation will also be sponsoring aninformational evening on college andhow to finance a college education.
