Bishops Favored
In Track, Baseball
By Bob Henrelly
With the spring season less
than half gone, predictions of
probable Ohio Conference
champions in baseball, track,
tennis and golf is risky but
here we go anyway.
Since Les Michael's unbeaten
baseballers play six of their
remaining nine OC games on
the home field, they get the
nod as probable champions
and NCAA tournament entries.
But the odds are against
the Bishop's stretching their
Edwards Field win streak to
29 by year's end. We'll take
afiyer and pick Denison as
the team which will hand
OWU its first home loss in
three years on May 22.
Capilal Big Worry-Afte-
today's win (?) over
Wittenberg, the Bishops must
worry about Heidelberg Saturday
and ever-roug- h Capital
next Tuesday.
. In track, we refuse to share
Coach Sterling Geesman's
'
growing worries. Victories in
the mile relay, 880 relay, 440
dash, two mile run and discus,
plus scattered points in the
mile, high jump, shot put and
possibly the 100 or 220, will
be enough to push the Bishops
past chief upset threat Capital.
Tennis Hopes Dim
Prospects for a first or second
place finish in OC tennis
look bleak at the moment for
the Frasermen, but the "luck
of the draw" has much to do
with crowning champions in
that tourney. Bill Poist should
come through at second singles.
Denison will be the team to
beat on the courts.
Coach Dick Gordin's golfers,
too, are in for a rough
time in the Conference matches
May 19 in Alliance, O.
Denison and Akron both look
rugged. The Bishops could
finish third on a good day for
the sometimes-errati- c
If you answered "No" to all questions, you obviously
smoke Camels a real cigarette. Only 6 or
7 "No" answers mean you better get on to Camels
fast. Fewer than 6 "No's" and it really doesn't
matter what you smoke. Anything's good enough!
Athlete ofthe Week
Freshman Doug Cotterman,
stellar Bishop weight man,
discus throw in
the Cincinnati-Capit- al meet
Denison-Akro- n runaway.
Cotterman bettered his own
discus record for the third
time a week ago, heaving the
discus 151 ft. 3 in. for an easy
first place.
A year ago, the Mentor, O.,
trackman was the nation's
second best discus thrower,
having tossed the lighter
platter 1C8 ft.
Saturday the freshman
turned in a first in the discus,
second in the shot put and
unusually busy, facing five
teams in four days.
Friday the Bishops met
Denison and Wittenberg on
the Delaware course. The Big
Red had too much for the Red
match. Finding Akron and
Western Reserve already on
a four-wa- y affair.
After complicated computing,
OWU found itself victor-
The Zippers finished on top,
besting the Red and Black,
Cowman Best Bishop
Bill Cowman took medalist
honors for the Bishops on the
Oberlin course with an 80. Rod
Meyers toured the course in
84, while Chris ter Kuile and
Jack Winters tied with 85.
Cowman also was top Ohio
Wesleyan golfer in the triangular
meet with Denison and
Wittenberg, turning in a good
78. Gene Cawood and Myers
scored 79, but Winters and ter
Kuile ran into trouble and
finished near 90.
switch to Camels. Nothing else tastes so rich,
smokes so mild. Today more people smoke Camels
than any other cigarette. The best tobacco gives
