P-8A Poseidon Program Overview• The P-8A Poseidon is a commercial aircraft derivativebased on the latest generation Boeing 737 platform as areplacement for the P-3C.• Mission systems are similar to those employed in PMA-290 legacy aircraft.• The P-3C aircraft currently provide the US Navy withboth tactical and strategic blue water and littoralundersea warfare capabilities in addition to armedintelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance functions.• The P-8A is an Acquisition Category (ACAT) ID weaponsystem program that entered the System Developmentand Demonstration (SDD) phase in May 2004.2NAVAIR Public Release 09-407 Distribution Statement A – Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited
