Irrigation development inCambodia.3.2. Private Sector Investment in AgricultureCambodia’s private sector has grown rapidly with strong policy support from the government. Ithas been very active in investing in all sectors, including agriculture, for many reasons, one ofwhich, obviously, is the profit they can gain from such investments. The number of local andforeign agricultural and agro-industrial companies is also rapidly increasing. Farmers in someareas have started using modern techniques and mechanization in farming, harvesting, milling,and storage. The government has also encouraged foreign direct investment (FDI) in theagriculture sector by providing an incentive package to investors. However, FDI in the sector is94
