Eachone of us should go beyond the County'smandated brush clearance and remove anyuseless flammables including old sheds, woodpiles, fencing, etc. MNVCA is a FiresafeCouncil. Call us if you are aware of ahazardous situation and we will add it to ourlist. Many thanks to our guest volunteers.Joan Kay (818) 222-2977Circle of LifeJim Wrigley, longtime Stokes Cyn resident,MNVCA past president, Federation delegate, and community activist has died. "ChickenJim" worked tirelessly for this association andthe Santa Monica Mts. He was the 'head chef'for many BBQ's in the days when we actuallypurchased, washed and cleaned, pre-cookedand BBQ’d so many chickens (and steaks). Jimand his wife, Sydney, gave countless hours tomake those events both a financial and socialsuccess. Jim loved politics and cared deeply forthe mountains and open space, testifyingbefore the CCC and LA Regional Planning, andwas a longtime member of SOS. He wasdirectly impacted by SOKA and worked tomake the dream of King Gillette as parklandcome true. His dry, English wit and grasp ofthe politics of this area were always fun towitness. He was a fabulous gardener as thoseof us lucky enough to taste some of those fruitscan testify. Jim died this month in NorthernCalifornia where the Wrigleys moved last Oct.to be near their daughter and her family. Hewill remain fondly in the memory of those ofus privileged to have known and workedalong side him. At that time, I inquired whetherthey were upgrading our services. I was told theywere installing all the gear to get our area ready forAT&T U-Verse, a service that provides for DigitalTV, High Speed Internet, and Phone Service. Allthat remained was to string fiber optic cable fromthe central office to our neighborhood. Fastforward to 2011: the cable has finally been installedin the past couple of months and crews have beenworking toward tying in the equipment installed in2009 to that new fiber optic line. I have been toldthe line runs along Mulholland Hwy, turns downCold Canyon, then down Piuma, ending up at theYMCA camp, or somewhere around Tapia Park.So we are closer to having an alternative service toCharter Cable once everything has been installedand tested. I'm sure you'll see offers from AT&T inyour mailbox once U-Verse is here.
