4.4 SICK-BUSINESS-PERSONAL LEAVE DAYSA. Employees will be granted eight (8) sick, two (2) business and two (2) personal days yearly.The unused portion of such leave shall accumulate as sick leave from year to year to amaximum of one hundred twenty five (125) days. (Employees with an accumulation of sickleave in excess of one-hundred days on September 1, 1990, or one-hundred-ten (110) days onSeptember 1, 2002, shall not lose those days accumulated over one-hundred-ten (110) days,and shall retain such days in their sick leave bank until used).1. Sick leave - Sick leave will be granted for illness or injury to the employeeand his/her immediate family. Immediate family will be considered spouse,child(ren), and/or parents. A doctor’s affidavit may be required if there isreasonable cause.2. Business days - Business days shall be credited to each teacher at the rateof two (2) per school year. Business days will be granted for business whichcannot be taken care of after school hours, weekends or vacation periods.<strong>Teachers</strong> are required to state nature of business when applying for businessdays. These days shall be applied for at least three (3) days in advance,except in the case of an emergency. Business days will not be granted forvacation, recreational or financial enhancement, nor immediately before orafter a holiday or vacation period, except in the case-of an emergency. Unusedbusiness days will be rolled into the individual teacher's sick bank.3. Personal days - Personal days shall be credited to each teacher at the rateof two (2) days per school year. It is the intent of the parties that these days beused at the discretion of the individual teacher. These days shall be applied forat least three (3) days in advance, whenever possible. Unused personaldays will be rolled into the individual teacher's sick bank.Up to two (2) personal days per year may be used before or after a holiday period.These may be consecutive or at different times. Requests submitted prior to October1 st will be placed in a random drawing. A maximum of 10% of teaching staff requestswill be honored for any one day. In the event that fewer than 10% of teaching staffrequest to use a personal day on the same day before or after a holiday, the remainingslots will be filled on a first-come-first serve basis. Applications in writing will besubmitted to the superintendent’s office. The initial drawing will occur with thesuperintendent (or designee) and member of the GLFT executive board. Holidays thatare applicable are:(a)(b)(c)Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, and Memorial Day are eligibleholidays.All applications for the above holidays will be submitted to theSuperintendent or his/her designee by October 1 of the applicable contractyear.No more than 10% of the teaching staff will be released on any givenday. In the event more than 10% of the teaching staff requests a givenday, a random selection will be held to determine which staff memberswill receive the requested date. All individuals will be notified of thedisposition of their request within one calendar week after the selectionprocess.25
